  1. When I started school, I lived on a naval air station so the first model I built myself was an aircraft likely from an inexpensive and simple Frog kit. However, I was always a car guy having inherited my older brother's Dinky Toy collection. I helped my dad with a few car kits, some of which were diecast metal but my first on my own styrene model vehicle build was an AMT 1960 Chev Pickup. I built this without any paint and used virtually every part in box and every decal on the sheet. The first model car I painted was an AMT '61 Chevy II Convertible that was painted with a brush light blue. I added a cover over the rear seats with headrests like a Thunderbird Roadster. The Christmas of 1961 I got a Thunderbird Hardtop AMT Styline kit with customizing accessories and AMT putty. That was my first spray paint job - Candy Sapphire Blue AMT paint. That really started my first four years in the model car hobby until I turned 16 and got my driver's license. Everything changed after that for about four decades. Photo of my 61 Thunderbird taken with a Brownie camera. The only photo I have of my first era of model car building.
  2. Beautiful build and great to see as saw Phil Hill drive it at the Monterey Historics many years ago.
  3. Very nicely done. I built my own a few years ago but mine is not as shiny as yours,
  4. They both look great in Lime Pearl especially with the mountain background.
  5. Two great looking Mustangs. Well built. With the backdrop they look real in some of the photos.
  6. Very attractive. I especially like your choice of colours.
  7. Excellent model car building.
  8. Great photos Steve. I lust after them all but I really the last one which is a Fiat Topolino EV.
  9. Those 3D Beaumont parts are very impressive
  10. Gorgeous and extremely well built.
  11. You have really captured the traditional look from the days of the little page car mags. I really like it.
  12. Great looking model. This kit is on my want list but unsure I would be willing to buck up if one became available.
  13. All the best to both entities and all involved. I have been a subscriber to Model Cars magazine since it was still Plastic Fanatic and hope it continues to publish a print magazine for many years to come. It appears the forum started in 2006, and I am surprised I did not join until 2009, but it has been my go-to ever since. I have tried other forums but this one works best for me.
  14. Thanks Carl
  15. Thanks everyone for your comments which I really appreciate. I enjoyed this kit and highly recommend it to anyone interested in the C8.
  16. Great to see your Phaeton again. It is hard to believe six years have passed since you first displayed it at Deuce Days in Scale 2019 !!
  17. Looks very good to me. I wanted a first gen Javelin for a future Trans-Am project but must have clicked the wrong box and got a 3D AMX kit which actually looks pretty good. I still want a first gen Javelin though.
  18. Thanks guys - The main drivers for AWA's Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R are Orey Fidani who owns the team, Matt Bell and Lars Kern, who team up in the #13 car for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. The car races in a black and gold livery for the IMSA races. These drivers won the 2025 Rolex 24 At Daytona in the GTD class. They did complete the 2025 24 Hours of Le Mans - 9th in class and have earned a spot on the grid for the 2026 Le Mans.
  19. The Canadian AWA Racing Team [now branded as Team 13 Racing] competed with a IMSA GTD Corvette C8 in the 2025 24 Hours of Le Mans in a very patriotic Canadian livery. Initially I wanted to build a replica of the racecar until I realized how different it was from a stock C8 so I ended up building this model as a fantom special edition street version resembling the race car. It was constructed pretty much box stock but I did cut the engine compartment cover area from the body so it could be painted separately and allow the great looking mid-engine arrangement to be completely viewed in its entirety. Additionally, I cut away the lower rear valence so it could be painted separately. A friend cut the white maple leaves with decal paper on his plotter. They were applied over Tamiya Bright Red. Check out this delightful video on Facebook of the AWA Corvette being topped up with 100% Canadian fuel. https://www.facebook.com/reel/1666186894040222
  20. Thanks. I really appreciate your comments. I kind of overdosed on Deuce builds preparing for the once every three years Deuce Days in Scale last July. It likely will be quite a while before I build another Deuce although I do have two in mind to build before Deuce Days in Scale 2028 !!
  21. Totally like it especially the tonneau cover. Well built.
  22. I missed the WIP. Your completed Ferrari is fabulous.
  23. Got 227 in Victoria BC Canada yesterday. Even though I had a pretty good look through the digital version getting the paper copy was like getting a completely new magazine. Long live hold in your hands printed on paper magazines!!
  24. This is absolutely fabulous. It brings back memories of a ski trip/road trip I took to Sun Valley with a couple of buddies in the earlier 1980's.
  25. I picked mine up last evening at my local hobby shop. Apparently, they have immediately sold out their initial order, and I have heard the kit is so popular it may be a while until they can get more. Having a quick look inside the box I am very impressed especially with the pro-touring chassis, engine compartment and interior. Like others I am not crazy about the hood, and I would probably remove the scripts anyways. Although it will likely be some time before I get around to building a pro-touring Comet, I may consider using the '65 body.
