Excellent project. I have used the great looking engine from the Phantom Vickie in a few projects -

Thanks Gary. I enjoyed doing the WIP maybe more than the completion !! -
Thanks Claude. It has sure made appreciate modern kits but I was also impressed with what they could back in the day beyond metal axles and screwed on undertrays.

Turned out fantastic with a sinister vibe. It looks like a car that might be on display at SEMA. I really like the exhaust system. -
Thanks Guys - I am really pleased with how the Beatnik Bandit turned out and how well it has been received here. Dave - your observation - "Each kit I build is really only practice for the next one!" is so true. I am currently working on another Revell kit originally released in the 1960s which is also fiddly but has details and features not found in today's kits.

A fantastic concept extremely well executed. This is a great looking model car.

Than Thanks guys - It is always challenging to try to duplicate special details once discovered and very satisfying when it can be done relatively successfully. -
Thanks guys - Glad you like the combo. I like seeing two or more models pictured together that have something in common.

Thanks guys - The first Rod & Custom magazine I bought as I kid was the May 1962 edition which featured an interview with Big Daddy Roth and George Barris who were maybe the two most influential figures in both the 1/1 and model car worlds. Although they and their cars were poles apart, there were interesting similarities with the cars - the pearl white paint and interiors, wild scallops, chrome wheels, shaped fenders and wide whites and chromed racing style engines.

A very well done and unique build. I really like it.

Thanks Eric - That looks like a tribute Bandit I remember seeing in the car mags. Very cool. Thanks Chris Thanks Dominik

Thanks everyone. It was fun project. Big Daddy Roth was definitely one of a kind and built so many far out vehicles. I found the chassis on the Bandit very interesting being a shortened fifties Oldsmobile with hydraulics steering similar to that used on boats.

It only took me 60 years to get around to building a model of the Beatnik Bandit. I venture to say there probably were not that many completed back in the day as the kit could be a challenge for a kid to build. There are some fiddley parts and getting the 5-piece decal applied to each fender is not exactly easy. I did not build my Bandit completely box-stock. I separated the floor pan from the fenders so the later could be molded to the body. A more realistic gauge was installed in the “dash”. The gold Bare-Metal-Foil was applied the circumference of the interior which is not correct but was the best solution I could come up with. I also added the transmission control lever which is not indicated in the instruction. A combination of kit and self-printed decals were used and I wrapped the decals over the perturbance above the headlights similar to the real Bandit. The paint is Tamiya Pearl White.

Gorgeous and very well built model. I love the flat-top look and 4-door hardtops in general. Gene Winfield turned a flat-top cadillac into a 2-door which looked great. Also interesting how the flat-top style was used on the El Camino.

Thanks Charles - here is the link Thanks Chris -
Extremely well built. I recently read an article about the Henry J so really nice to see such a cool model car.

Excellent job converting to a two door. I guess a Challenger essentially is a two door 300/Charger.

Great looking A-Coupe especially the paint scheme and the big headlights

Very impressive model of a very impressive racing car. -
Turned out fantastic Steve especially the interior and engine. It sure would be a blast to drive a full size version.

Ferrari F2001 Monza Blacknose
Phildaupho replied to Phildaupho's topic in Other Racing: Road Racing, Salt Flat Racers
It is Canadian Thanksgiving Weekend so thanks a lot guys. -
It is now over twenty years ago that Ferrari raced at the 2001 Italian Grand Prix at Monza with black noses and no livery to honour the victims of the 911 attacks only five days before. It was a strikingly memorable tribute at a very subdued Grand Prix. Ferraris did fairly well in the race that day finishing second and fourth while Juan Pablo Montoya took his first victory in a Williams-BMW from pole position. Earlier that same year I witnessed those same Ferraris race in full livery at the Canadian Grand Prix – a race also won by a Williams-BMW driven by Ralf Schumacher who finished third at Monza. Ten years after the 2001 F1 season, I attended 2011 Italian Grand Prix at Monza. Sometime in the intervening years I acquired the Tamiya kit of the Ferrari F2001 always with the intention of building it as the black nose version. Now twenty years after it raced, I figured it was time to get it done. Because my primary objective was to represent the simplicity of the black nose and no livery, I decided to build it straight from the box with next to no extra detailing. Monza is a high-speed circuit so F-1 cars always race there in low drag configuration. As such the F-2001 did not use the center rear wing so it was left off and the upper wing had two elements which I simulated by scribing. Up front the two inner elements on the end plates were removed. The most involved and time-consuming aspect of this build was the painting. Almost all the red body parts had to be painted satin black on the undersides so a lot of masking was required. Tamiya spray can was used exclusively including Tamiya Pink Primer under the Bright Red. I have read that Ferrari uses pink primer on their red cars. While the white areas of the wings could have been done with decals, I decided to paint them. I have not built a Tamiya kit in awhile and even though this one is twenty years old it is an absolutely top-notch model kit and was a very enjoyable build.
