  1. the AMT '29 Roadster is a great kit for post war Lakesters and TROG style racers...heres my latest version...Z'ed and channeled with a '48 flathead topped with resin Eddie Meyer speed parts from Replicas and Miniatures of Maryland.
  2. All good...but I'm surprised no one has posted a pic yet of the classic Jaguar XKE circa 1963-64. As a little kid growing up back then one look and I thought it was the sexiest thing ever put on four wheels.
  3. That green looks pretty bright. What undercoat did you use?
  4. Floats my boat! Well Done.
  5. Stylistically speaking...I think baby boomers like myself note 1957 as a good year...I was 4 years old when the 57 Chevy Bel Air debuted, along with the 57 Ford Fairlane, and that year's Corvette and T-Bird were pretty nice looking too. These days just about all cars look to me like the design came from the results of the same wind tunnel tests...getting harder for me to tell them apart. I often go out to the parking lot and confuse my own car with everybody elses...or maybe dementia is finally setting in. ( too much fumes from the styrene glue )
  6. I think Rod and Custom mightve also done a write up sometime in 1960.
  7. Monogram produced a model kit in the late 50s early 60s that was no doubt inspired by Fred Allens coupe...as the pic below shows. It was a Roadster instead of a coupe, but had the distinctive devil design on the radiator grille. Kit was re released sometime around 1994.
  8. Street Rodder did a cover story on a recreation of Fred Allen's Satan coupe in their Oct 2007 issue. The original car was written up in the Nov 1957 issue of Rod Builder & Customizer...see attached pic of both magazines.
  9. Its funny what some novices or people totally unfamiliar with the hobby call the sprues that all the plastic parts are attached to....on EBay I've seen used kit sellers call them "frames", "skeletons".
  10. Thats a nice looking build Tom.....so much so I thought Ken Hamilton mightve done it!
  11. The attached photo is of a Monogram Little T kit...original 1964 issue I found on EBay years ago...for reasonable money since it was started and abandoned. I liked the look of the white plastic interior & pick up bed cover contrasted against the exterior I had painted gloss black so I decided to just clean the white parts ( including the white wall tire inserts ) with a mild liquid soap and an old toothbrush. I entered it in an "Out of the Box" category at a recent IPMS show in N. VA....and anyone who has seen those events know how tough those judges can be. It won 2nd Place automotive...guess they didn't care it was unpainted plastic.
  12. Like I mentioned to you at the show JC....I was into TROG before there even was a TROG. My first builds as an adult modeler returning to the field back in the 90s were subject matter that wouldve looked at home on the dry lakes back in the post war period. Guess that makes me a bona fide TROGlodyte!
  13. Looked around for you Bill...but didn't see you...thought you might've left. Understand why you best not push it...you did after all make the Big One up in Jersey just a few days earlier !
  14. I heard your name mentioned during the awards...saw you get a trophy...but not sure which model earned the accolades. I think I was suffering from sleep deprivation that day.
  15. Which one won you the Rally Car theme?
  16. Thanks JC. The reason I was running late that day was because I was working late every night leading up to the event trying to bring three or four TROG themed builds to completion ...didnt get there...the twin four banger needs wiring . But it was a good building lesson. Maybe I'll finish it for the February IPMS show.
  17. Tom...which model of yours won the TROG theme at the Mid-Atlantic NNL?
  18. Tom....which model of yours won the TROG theme?
  19. Indeed it was Brad. Sadly I arrived 3 hrs after the show opened so it was everything I could do to grab a few shots and hit some of the vendors before people started packing stuff up. It was well attended...with a good variety of builds. If interested in seeing more you can go to the Maryland Automotive Modelers Assoc website and check out links to some of the member's Fotki photo albums...prez Tim Powers took a lot of pics.
  20. This was the trophy for the TROG - "The Race of Gentlemen" theme, an Offenhauser valve cover turned into a wall clock....donated by vendor Ron Bradley. It was won by modeler Tom Geiger...who posts regularly on this site.
