I'm still waiting on my tool kit from South Korea... I started working on the receiver and added some detail to the trailer hitch. I used some parts from the parts box, a Mini hood latch and the camera from a stock car kit. I cut the box off the camera because it looks like the box that is used to hold the battery for the emergency disconnect braking system on trailers. I have some chain on order to make the safety chains. The receiver is removable from the truck. I had to open up the end of the mounting point on the truck as it was cast solid. I used scraps to make the receiver assembly and pinned it with some wire for strength and the ball came with the trailer kit. I made the nut from scrap.

Moebius '65 Mercury Comet Cyclone news

Tower Hobbies just sent me an email. The two kits I ordered from them are shipping today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
I started off by Googling chassis, suspension and engine pictures of 2010 Superdutys for reference. I used DupliColor light filler primer which comes in a very dark grey and white. I primed most of the parts with the dark grey primer. (I used that primer on the trim, mirrors and door handles on the body too because if you look close at the real truck. those parts aren't completely black) Then depending on what color that part mostly looked like I sprayed the parts that color first. For example the drive shafts I sprayed with plain ole Rustoleum red primer because they looked mostly rusty in my reference pictures. Then using the red Rustoleum as a base I used MM wood and flat black and Testers steel in various amounts until the color looked good to my eye then thinned it till it was very thin with lacquer thinner and brushed it on like a wash letting it melt in and blend with the base color. Less is more in these instances. As I am doing that the lacquer thinner flashes off gradually and the paint gets a little thicker, if I like the color I use a very small detail brush and do things like the U bolt nuts on the rear axle, the groves representing the layers of leaves in the rear springs and other small details. I then add a little more black and a little more thinner and do stuff in the shadows like the U joints on the drive shaft and I went over the grooves in the leaf sprigs again but with very thinned down wash consistency. I smeared some semi dried paint on the spare tire with my finger. It's sort of the Bob Ross approach. Look at the reference picture try to mix up a color that looks close and have at it. I have a stack of old CD / DVDs that is use as palates and when there isn't a clean place to mix up some color I throw it away and get another one. Sometimes I use an old spot if the color I want is going to be close to the old spot. I did the same with the exhaust pipe. I sprayed the mufflers with Rustoleum stainless steel and then let it dry for little bit and then sprayed the pipe portion with MM flat tan interior and let the over spray get on the mufflers a little. Then used some Testers steel, MM wood and just a little flat black thinned way down with lacquer thinner and did a wash to blend it all together. This was my first go at weathering. I wanted the finished build to look like a normal truck that was taken care of but was 6 years old and had be driven. Thanks for all the nice compliments.

Took your advise and switched it to epoxy. I also started carving out the front end to make it look a little better -

Wow, I thought the first pictures were of the real deal you modeled after. Great job on the build and outstanding photography. -
Super job. The work on the wheels really paid off. Anything else would have taken away from the build.

While waiting on the paint to dry on the tow rig, (Meng Ford F350 Super Duty Super Crew and a Galaxy tandem trailer) I decided to start on the race car. Moebius is going to be releasing the 65 Comet Cyclone this month. I have had 3 of those kits on pre order for 2 years. I was going to use one to build a 427 Comet but I found out that they are going to release a second version of the kit with the 427 conversion already kitted up so I am going to wait for that release to build the 427 AFX car. Until then I want to have another of my "wish I had one of those" race cars the 66 427 Ford Fairlane. I am saving my real 427 AMT kit for another build and am using the GT kit with parts from the Revell 64 Thunderbolt to soup it up. I am using parts box wheels and tires, here is the stance I am going for and I have started on the chassis mods so that the slicks will fit. Cutting the wheel wells and moving the frame rails in. Cutting out the stock gas tank and putting in a filler panel for the fuel cell in the trunk. I am going to graft the tear drop scoop to the kit hood.

I will be watching this one. I have a similar build with this same kit. I am doing a fantasy build with the Jegs Slixx decals to set next to my Summit Firebird.

Is the AMT 1970 1/2 Camaro any good?
Reeves Racing replied to '08SEAL's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I just picked one of these exact kits up at Hobby Lobby last night on the clearance rack for $7.99 it had a post it note on it under the cellophane, that said missing engine and various parts... (they had resealed it in cellophane) When I got home and opened it, low and behold it was complete, all parts still in bags nothing missing. Makes me think an employee is teeing up good kits for clearance for a buddy or something... -
Thanks guys, my daughter is going back to Kansas next month for a visit and she is going to take it to them.

This is a model of my Uncle Neil's car (actually its Aunt Cathy's but he married into it.) She has had the car since it was new. Newly re-released MPC kit Used Revell 65 Mustang inner fender panels, spring towers, springs and lower control arms to improve the very sad MPC chassis plate. Used fan shroud from Revell 83 or 4 Thunderbird prostock and battery and washer bottle from a cut out engine compartment from a Ford pickup. I got the export braces from the parts box but I don't know what kit they are from. Masking tape vinyl top Plast-Struct and Evergreen stock to make extra trim and side glass channels. Added quarter windows BMF Flocked carpet Rear safety bumpers from AMT Mercedes 300SL Rubber rear bumper pad Evergreen stock Mix of Testers "One Coat Lacquer" Inca Gold and Pure Gold and Krylon Flat Black Wheels from AMT 63 Impala Tires from parts box Hood locks from Revell 70 Mach 1 Decals from Keith Marks sealed with Rustoleum flat clear Engine mix of heads, valve covers, intake and air cleaner from Revell 70 Mach 1 and kit engine and transmission Transmission modified to look like a C6 automatic Exhaust from Revell 70 Mach 1 Plug wires, fuel line, PVC hose and vacuum advance line added License plate from picture of real car resized and printed out, laminated with Scotch "Magic" tape and glue on with CA.

I have only built the AMT version. The headlights are a little small but, not as bad IMO as is being told here -

November is just around the corner. Any release date news? Tower Hobbies says my two on back order are due late December. -
Now there's one you don't see often... Looks like the 1 to 1 car I harvested the disc brakes off of to put on my 68 Mustang.
