Not much left to say but, Ditto (to the whole thread). Seems everyone has pretty much the same opinion as I do. The flakes are too large to replicate most "normal" paint jobs in scale, but for custom Kustom stuff, they look great! Some are perfect for the Bass boats as stated above, and let's not forget those sweet old school motorcycle helmets! There are some really, REALLY awesome looking colors out there. They cover and spray great right from the can and with the clear from the same line... I love 'em. BTW,Dave, that Riv' is SICK looking! I love it!

WOW, Tom! :) That office, and everything else you've done so far has left me both at a loss for words, and salivating uncontrollably! Everything looks AMAZING !!!!! Oh... don't forget to change those furnace filters regularly... Gotta keep those oil cans lookin' nice and sparkly!

VERY Nicely built! Love the wheels and the ride height.. Looks perfect! Excellent job on the decals as well! As stated above, they look like they'd take a bit of effort to get 'em to lay down right. I've had my eye on this kit for quite some time now, but have way too many others to complete first! I've been into BMW's ever since I started my 7 year career as a BMW tech (I left because I was offered a job working for Chevy and ,believe it or not, made a LOT more money with GM). I've always thought the e36 M3 was a really sharp looking car and hope to add one to my 1:1 collection one of these days (too bad the US version didn't come with the "real" engine though ... but, a good size turbo can fix that in short order! lol).

VW Midget
Wayne Buck replied to Old Sprinter's topic in WIP: Other Racing: Road Racing, Land Speed Racers
That is lookin' really GREAT, Ken!! To be honest, I don't recall ever seeing one of these before in the 1:1 world (maybe I'm too young?..or more likely, I probably just haven't noticed them), but it is a VERY cool subject and you definitely have my attention! Can't wait to see it finished! Keep up the EXCELLENT work! -
Trans-Am Camaro Revell

I would start here first: http://www.google.com -
Man, that's a tough one, Greg.... MANY variables to factor in. Depends mainly on the size of the decal and location/visibility (outside of the vehicle is ideal, but you can also gain some noticeable power if installed on the upper rad support or even on the underside of the hood). Also, I haven't confirmed this personally, but I've heard, If it is placed in close proximity to one of those "V-tec inside" stickers, it can almost double the effect (kinda like nitrous on a turbocharged motor).

I had no idea what "hellaflush" meant til I just read through the whole thread... Those guys must go through a "hella-lotta-tires"!

WOW! That thing has so much "Visual Horsepower" it's insane! 5...10...15...20...35.......aww man.. I lost count... Pretty cool idea though! I like it!

As a few people have mentioned, there really isn't much of a need to use the metal axle in the kit. Here's a mock up pic of a chopped '25 I've been toying with lately. I'm just going to glue the wheels right to the backing plates and fill in the holes after I de-chrome everything... Thanks for the picture, Gregg! Looks like I'm gonna have to add one or two of those to the collection now...

Venting Spray Booths
Wayne Buck replied to High octane's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Here, check this out, might help ya: http://www.modelcars...th&fromsearch=1 I haven't really read the whole thing but it should be good coming from Sir Cranky. Two VERY important things to consider: 1. Make SURE it is vented all the way OUTSIDE of your house and not into the attic (a filter would be a good addition too). 2.Be EXTREMELY careful if you use a fan. You need one that will not create any electrical arcs or sparks when running. VERY IMPORTANT Oh, and please, PLEASE wear a proper respirator when spraying! Hope this helps... By the way, I vent mine straight out through my old oil burning furnace flue pipe and spray in a homemade booth in my basement that connects to it. EDIT: There's a bunch of info on this site.. Click the search function (the little magnifying glass icon) at the search screen: type booth where it says "find words" and the next line that says "match", leave the first box alone at all words and change the second box to only search in titles. I found quite a bit of info doing that. Hope ya find what you need. -
Awesome tip!! I would've never thought of that! Looks GREAT and if you happen to get a dent in one, you could just say that you wanted "Diet" or "Tea".

Speaking of the speed of light, I remember reading some studies a while back that proved it is NOT a constant. I can't remember which universities the studies were conducted, but they were able to slow it down...then slow it down some more... and eventually one university even got the light to STOP!! Edit: Check it out here: http://news.harvard....-stoplight.html

I have OCD as well, Cranky... I was diagnosed with it at 20 years old after a MAJOR struggle with deep depression (long story that I won't get into here). I used to HAVE TO do things a "certain way" when I was a kid growing up... weird stuff like if I had an itch on one big toe, i just HAD to scratch the other one for an equal amount of time, or the volume on my stereo HAD to be set at an even number, etc.. I was also VERY particular about people being around my food, toothbrush, drinking glass and other things. I would NEVER drink from a cup that even my own mother had a sip from. Once a Psychologist made me aware of my condition, I had a major ("A-HA!! That's why I was like that growing up!") moment. I still have problems with it here and there, but over time, now knowing it's "all in my head", forced myself and learned to control it better. I agree with you to a point about it helping with models, but it's also a disadvantage for me sometimes... If something doesn't turn out the way I wanted it to, it REALLY bugs me! I can't even begin to count how many "1/4 built, 1/2 built, 3/4 built, etc.." models are sitting and collecting dust now because something didn't look right to me. I do, however, eventually figure something out (for most of 'em) and go back and finish them (or do a little more work until I run into the next problem! LOL). Anyway, NOBODY is perfect and to be honest, I think that's a very good thing! I mean, c'mon, how boring would life be if everyone was? Think about it! ...Especially when it comes to this forum and our passion for building and sharing ideas. Imagine (if we were all "perfect") someone posting pics of a model they built! The responses would be like - "I built that one."... or "I don't have that car yet." There wouldn't be any: "Nice job on the paint", "I like the way you built that chassis, it looks almost like the real thing!" or "How did you do that BMF around the side mouldings so nicely? I've been having trouble with that on the same kit.". Kinda weird to think about... In fact it's hurting my brain!!

Best kit to build 1964 GTO?
Wayne Buck replied to allegheny's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Oh Boy!! This thread turned into a smorgasbord of awesome looking '64 Goats! My vote goes to the Monogram kit as well. Admittedly, I haven't seen the other two kits in person, but my father and I are Pontiac and Chevy nuts and I think the R/M version looks nice and goes together ESPECIALLY NICE. Here's a molded in red monogram that I built. (I didn't have any trouble with bleed through BTW) (Wish it was at least wearing the GR-RRR license plate in those pics. The motor wasn't even glued in yet! LOL I'll have to take some new shots of her one day...) Bill, that convertible is just BEAUTIFUL!! -

I think a nailhead would look cool in it. Or, how 'bout a nice and filthy looking small diesel? -
Oh Boy!!! She's Lookin' SWEEEEET, Derrick! Lovin' the color on the frame. After looking at that pic, I can't seem to get this song outta my head now... Goes a little somethin' like this: "On the day I was born,, The nurses all gathered 'round,, And they gazed in wide wonder,, At the joy they had found..... Duh-Nunnuh-Duh-Nuh..." Keep up the GREAT work! This baby is definitely BAD TO THE BONE!!

The Hornet's Nest: Hudson Hornet Build Madness!
Wayne Buck replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in Community Builds
Thanks, Cranky! Just thought it would look pretty cool, except it would have to be more jagged, scaly-rusty and grimy than the picture. As I said, I'm not exactly the best artist, ESPECIALLY on a computer! But, it is Chuck's build and it's lookin' KILLER and Unique as normal... so he may have something even better for it in his mind. I do know that no matter how that beast ends up when finished, we SURELY won't be disappointed! -

how did you get hooked ..my 1st kit 1963
Wayne Buck replied to mr cheap's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Shortly after I was born, my parents split up and I used to go over to my grandparent's house for the weekend to visit my dad. His house was being renovated at the time. When I was around 3 years old, my dad was building one of those 1:12 Revell Camaros to represent the 1:1 he owned at the time, and I was VERY interested in it. After seeing my interest, he picked me up some models. I had a bunch, but distinctly remember a 2nd gen Camaro (I made it into a circle track car and dad showed me how to make dents in the body by heating up the plastic and... well you know how it works..). I loved that car and built it over and over, as well as some others. I really wish I could find that Camaro just for the sake of memories. Anyway, from that time up until I went off to tech-school after high school, I built models in my dad's basement pretty much every weekend. I graduated from tech school in Illinois, came back home and started working as a BMW tech (after some more schooling in NJ) and I just didn't have the time and kinda lost interest. I did build a bit while going to school and even got my roommates interested enough to build a few of their own. About a year after starting my "adult life", I met a girl who eventually became my "wife" (we still haven't officially tied the knot, but are engaged and planning to) and mother of our 3 year old daughter, and believe it or not, SHE is responsible for me getting back into the hobby. Around '06, we were talking one day and somewhere in the conversation I mentioned how much I used to love building model cars and she asked me what some of my favorite cars were. Well, a couple of months later, she remembered that conversation and surprised me with 2 kits on our 4th anniversary. One was an AMT '66 Nova and the other a Revell '55 Chevy. Once I unwrapped the cellophane and opened the box containing the Nova, it was all over!! -

My grandfather had a nice little machine shop set up at the back of his house where I used to build models as a kid. One day (I was about 4 or 5 years old at the time), I was doing what I LOVED to do most, ...painting several models again and again with a big brush with a whole array of testors enamels (all opened) lined up across the back of the work bench. My grandpa walked in and said, "Man! It smells like lightning struck the outhouse in here!" I use that quote once in a while myself.... always makes me laugh when I reflect back on that day. Funny! I was thinking the same thing, Cranky! Maybe a long, thin and RUSTY tailpipe coming straight outta the middle with "barbs" on it? BTW, AWESOME work so far, everyone! I want to get one of these now after seeing all of the GREAT eye candy, BUT, I just have waaaay too many projects on the bench ATM.. Edit: Drew this up in paint real quick... maybe something kinda like this for the stinger? (Not much of an artist, as you can see.. LOL,) Tailpipe side view: -
Honestly, this caught me off guard for a second! I literally Just woke up, started my coffee brewing and went to check the forum as I usually do in the morning. I didn't really get what the title of the thread meant, so I clicked on it and started reading (with one eye half open still)... I felt SOOOOO bad at first and my second thought to myself was "oh boy, someone's in trrrouuuuuble...." Then I read the reply... and I LOL'd! Thanks, Don! That was pretty good!!

Oh, and I think it was Chuck Most that had one in his sig a couple weeks ago that made me laugh pretty hard. Something like: "You can't always take everything you read on the internet as truth" - Abraham Lincoln
