  1. Reminds me of one of those "IQ test" questions... This is one TRULY BADASS Hornet, Chuck!!! Love it, love it, LOVE IT!! Came out AWESOME.... GREAT job!
  2. That baby is lookin' sweet! Excellent, SUPER-CLEAN build!
  3. Grrrrreat looking truck! Looks awesome & love the weathering underneath. Looks PERFECT!
  4. WOW!!! That came out incredibly, amazingly, outstandingly, ummm.... BEAUTIFUL! I'd LOVE to see this one in person!
  5. That looks absolutely gorgeous, James! I've wanted this kit for a while now but have yet to get my hands on one.. Hope mine turns out half as nice as yours! GREAT job!
  6. Beautiful Job! I REALLY love that color...especially with the white interior! In fact, I love that blue so much..., I'd be tempted to eat paint chips of it if I had 'em. That's one Charger model to be very proud of for sure! Disclaimer: I was joking about eating the paint chips. No-one should ever do this, under ANY circumstance, as it can be very hazardous to your health.
  7. LOL! Read my mind! To each his own, I suppose... Anyhow, the truck looks GREAT! Excellent job on the chop and other mods, and that color just never gets old to me...looks perfect with the chrome and the white bits here and there. The midget and trailer look awesome behind the truck as well! I give it two thumbs and two big toes up! Thanks for sharing!
  8. What a GREAT thread! Some really cool stuff here!!! Shortly after meeting a kid (who ended becoming my best friend to this day... we're both car nuts and mechanics) in 7th grade study hall, we began drawing pictures one day and passing them back and forth to try and make each other laugh. One day, I drew up a completely BONE STOCK model T with a HUGE, Blown big block Chevy with a guy sitting in the car "pouring on the coals"... I drew the spokes in the stock back wheels being completely ripped apart, twisted, pieces flying everywhere and he was laughing so hard he was in tears. So, fast forward about 15 years later... I thought back on it and decided to build a model of what was depicted in the picture. I started on it about a year or so ago and had to put it aside to figure out a few "obstacles" I began to encounter while building. I really gotta get back on this one though, now that I'm looking at it again. LOL
  9. LOL!! That's funny! Thanks for sharing... It's been a very tough past few weeks for me and I needed a good laugh!
  10. Tommy, that thing came out wicked cool!! I'd go with the ASA kit as well, Drew... It probably isn't 100% correct for a dirt tracker (ie.. according to the rule books), but it sure as heck looks to be a pretty darn good starting point as Tommy just demonstrated. I don't know a ton about dirt cars, but I've been around asphalt modifieds all my life, and I don't recall ever seeing two of them that were completely "identical", so I wouldn't worry about "rivet counting" as far as this goes. Also, EVERYONE was new to modeling at one point. Don't be afraid to try things. If it doesn't come out right, just try again. IMHO, the big keys to building good models are: Take your time Have confidence in yourself (very important) If you screw up, learn from it. Try to figure out where you went wrong and try a different approach, AND don't be afraid to ask for advice. Just try it. Really not much to lose. If it doesn't come out the way you wanted, the time and and materials that are lost, are IMO, payment towards learning and improving your skills. Keep those things in mind when building and I bet you will be pleasantly surprised with your outcome (maybe not on your very first attempt, but if you keep at it, you WILL get it right). BTW, when I said "Good Models" above, I mean a model that you are proud to have built. As far as I know, there is no set standard for what a "good model" is, really. This hobby is about having fun and taking pride in your work. Don't worry about what anyone else says about your projects... If you are happy with what you have built, that is ALL that matters. Just want to reiterate what Tommy said: "Whatever you come up with, please share.....maybe we can all learn something!"
  11. Mark, That is a BEAUTIFUL and SUPER-CLEAN build! Awesome job! Seriously, crummy proportions or not... That model is just gorgeous.
  12. I would LOVE to experience a rush like that, BUT, even in a straight line, there are just too many things that can go wrong (especially considering; #1. that is an insane speed... and #2. that thing is undoubtedly being totally pushed to it's limits to get there). Remember the brave people we lost in the "Challenger Incident"... millions of parts in good working order, but ONE tiny little o-ring failure = Ka-Boom. Now, in a "perfect world", where I was guaranteed to make it back in one piece... I'd have to say "HECK YEAH!!!" Yee-Haw!!!!
  13. Hmmm... tryin' to think. I've know I've parted at least 2 or 3 out for other things because I have two incomplete '66 Nova kits sitting behind me on my "upstairs shelf". I'll post some pics when I figure out the mystery. I'm posting here for now though, because I just wanted to make mention of the super cool engine stand and long block (with heads on and rockers installed, but with no internals... ) that's included in the kit. Still, great dio pieces for sure! EDIT: Was just thinking it's kinda funny how I've bought around five of those kits with the sole intent of building a tubbed version, and still have yet to complete one in that configuration! IMHO, when it comes to the world of 1:1, the '66-'67 Novas are the coolest looking cars when slammed to the ground and tubbed... The '55 Chevy comes in a close second for me. P.S. That Rambler looks GREAT, Chuck!
  14. That's awesome, James! Congrats! Don't worry 'bout the "extra room" as you'll have her filled in no time, I'm sure! I have pretty much the same setup over here, except we bought our home (well, sorta....still many, MANY payments left to go.) and I've turned our extra room into my hobby room and have one 8'x12' wall covered with kits I started collecting again about 2 years ago. The other room is for the wife and me (although my 3 y.o. daughter usually ends up literally kicking me outta bed around 3 am..LOL) and the last room is for my daughter (when she does decide to stay in there for the night ). Again, Congrats and good luck with your new home!
  15. I agree, Andy! The way some of today's Pro-Mods are starting to look, I could totally envision this car competing in the class! I'm REALLY diggin' the way this car is turning out.. Definitely unique and DEFINITELY cool!
  16. To be honest, Joe, I'm pretty much into cars and not so much into trucks, but, MAN!!... This thing is incredible! Gotta give credit where it is so obviously due! Your building skills are nothing short of AMAZING! I've been checking on this beast often, ever since you started building it. Thanks so much for sharing! It's awesome to see this thing go together (It's looking so real and mean, I wish I could take it for a spin down the fire trails in the pine barrens by my house! ).
  17. Ismael, I bought a few different transmissions from Kris a while back and can say, they are VERY nice! I actually just pulled out my last TH400 I have from him, and it is very nicely detailed and the casting & material is EXCELLENT to work with and has a very nice ,smooth finish to it.
  18. Thanks for sharing the video. That was a really cool story! ...even brought a little tear to my eye! I still have my first car ('84 Trans Am 5 liter ho/ 5 speed with every option you could get except a rear window defroster). That thing has been through more motor swaps, trans rebuilds (eventually swapped in a th-350) and ring & pinion sets than I can count! LOL She's not exactly the prettiest car on the block right now, but I plan to one day restore it back to the way I had it in high school. It had a "high output" 305 with a 350 horse 327 cam, SLP cat-back, hogged out cat, performer intake and a T-5 with 3:73's in the back... Deep and shiny white paint with Grey interior and Weld Pro-Stars that I got for x-mas after having the car about a year. I've had SEVERAL offers from people wanting to buy it and always turned them down just because it was my first car, and I've heard WAY too many of those "wish I still had my first car" stories!
  19. You should contact Ryan Martinie from Mudvayne. Looks like he has it down pretty good! Edit: Here's another. LOLOLOL
  20. I think a good quality 10/0 liner might be worth trying... Here's a couple of my favorite brushes I use for detailing: Bottom to top: 5/0 "spotter" 10/0 "liner" 00 000
  21. Beautifully done, Mark! I love those old NASCAR racers! Thanks for sharing!
  22. I just keep one of those testors 1.75oz thinner bottles on my bench filled with lacquer thinner. I swish the brush around in there a bit and then do a few "brush strokes" on a clean paper towel and leave it to dry. It's relatively cheap to buy a big container of it, and like Gregg said, it will clean anything. When the bottle starts to get icky looking inside, I dump it out, pour a little bit of lacquer thinner in it and shake it (with the lid on ) to clean it out, and then fill it again with new thinner. Sometimes, for acrylics, I use good ol' Ajax & water when I'm cleaning a "delicate/expensive" brush or paint off of a part that didn't come out right (definitely don't wanna use lacquer thinner for that... It'll turn your plastic into mush in short order).
  23. Lot's of REALLY NICE 2nd Gens here! I'm in heaven! Wish I had some to post, but all of the ones I have at home are still in the works. Well... except a "well used" slotcar. LOL I post it if I can dig it up for heck of it. The guys at the track used to like it... I absolutely LOVE that!! That is one SWEET looking car! I love everything about it. The color combo, wheels, stance, hood is the perfect size AND it's a full bumper version! I'm personally not a huge fan of the "split bumpers", especially when people have 'em with the wrong lighting arrangement up front..
  24. I always liked the very beginning of the movie "Dazed and Confused". Sweet Emotion by Aerosmith starts off slowly and as the "beat" kicks in the GTO Judge comes slowly rolling around the corner...always made me think "I wish I was around back then with all of those cool cars and the more laid-back lifestyle." I even built a model of that GTO when I was 15 or 16 because of that scene. Also, if you're into NASCAR or racing in general, I love the very beginning of "Days of Thunder". It just sets the atmosphere and mood beautifully IMHO. The music starts off all quiet and shows the empty stands, race track and cars rolling out of the trailers, etc... at sunrise and slowly builds up to the start of the Daytona 500.
  25. Some darn Nice Goats here!! I think I've posted this car in a couple of other "GTO" threads in the past month or two... but here's mine again, because it's the only one I've got that's complete so far! LOL Monogram '64 Actually, this one's not even 100% done in the pics (some engine detail and license plates have been added since). That's good though, because it's reminding me to take some finished shots of her!
