yep, I hear that! my oldest son is going to New York this morning with his Architecture class for 4 days to check out the building and architecture there, I swear, not too long ago we were making houses out of 2x4's for his hot wheels.

hope things go well for you Rich. so far at 54, I take no meds and am in pretty good heath. it's important that you all stay up on your health, I am lucky that my work will give me breaks on my insurance if I don't smoke, get regular physicals and make an effort to just stay healthy. they have a workout room, they bring in a workout instructor twice a week and have a yoga class (I don't do the yoga and yes, the instructor and the helper are darn good looking, must be something in those yoga pants....) anyways, do what you can to stay healthy and live long.

great looking build. as big a hemi freak that I am, I LOVE the 383 build. really a great choice. nice execution on the build too. look forward to you closing this one out.

yea, yea, I know, your as old as you feel. I feel not a day over 35, but my body is telling me something different. Was working on a 70 super bee, simple detail to the grill, or so it used to be. Painted the grille flat black, had to use the old reading glasses I used for very fine details to paint a grille, really?.... And a magnifying glass too. Started the grille surround in silver, touched the flat black several times. Now, I am not a award winning modeler by any means, but I did pretty good, now I can't even paint a simple grille surround, heck I can barely see it. Get my small halogen light..... GAAAA, to bright!! but what light I have just isn't enough, and these glasses, well they ain't doing the job either. Looked at the grille and the black paint I laid down on the body the next day, well, let's just say that the award winning builds I have in my head will never make it to the bench. Oh, I will still build, but I think the detail I want to put into the builds just took a walk, never to return. has this phenomenon hit anyone else....

ok, do not want to hijack this tread, hopefully will add to it, for those who use panel scribers, are there any benefits to using one over the back of a #11 blade? been thinking about buying one, could use the education along with Greg.

oh sure you could... it's easy. the problem lies, and I an surprised nobody who starts this many has mentioned this, when you go back to a previously started build and change direction on it because you saw something even cooler while looking for reference for yet another build. or it's the old "why did i build it THIS way... gotta change it" speaking for myself, not only do i have quit a few started, they can change direction at the drop of a hat. the one downfall for me for starting so many kits is you really cut down on the amount of tradable kits when a possible trade comes up. plenty of times i had what the guy was looking for, but i had started the kit and took the trade value of it right down to zero!! -
what color dominates your builds?
tubbs replied to tubbs's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
really makes sense Tom. I do the same with the spray cans, but it seems I keep buying blues. I tend to lean towards black interiors. don't know if it's a color blind thing or just afraid on how it's going to look. have seen a few models with the blue interior/blue exterior thing and they look great. especially when executed well by the use of dullcoats, mat and textured finishes in the interior. one of these days...... -
what color dominates your builds?
tubbs replied to tubbs's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
hey Greg, do you use automotive paints? where do you get your green paints from. everytime I look for a nice green color and I hit the local autozone for some duplicolor, they have very few greens and the ones they have are all dark. nothing like this... I may have to start shopping at Model Car World.... -
I was painting a few builds last night, glanced over and noticed that of the builds I have done, they are dominated by either blue or black builds. no red, no green, no bright wild colors.... just blues and blacks. the 2 I sprayed last night, 1 blue, one black, ongoing builds I have are also blue or black. well, I re-evaluated my current projects and future builds and changed a lot of the colors. do you guys seem to have a "dominate" color on your builds or are you pretty diverse? kind of a silly question, just was wondering if anyone has fallen into the "blue/black hole" that I have?

don't even get me started on this... our 12U baseball team, our sponsor (who runs a baseball clinic) passed out the hats and HE removed all the labels and pre-bent the hats and demands 1/2" minimum bend in the bill of the cap...... period!! to quote him, "hats are for sunshade and a logo, it's not a shelf"

nice job. it's going well. love stretched wheel wells. haven't done them on a mopar yet, the new cuda may be the first for me. important thing is figuring out where to cut. nice job. big mopar fan and even a bigger pro street fan!! I will be watching... hope you don't mind, this is a chassis of the AMT GTX which I did the same modifications to it that you did. can I suggest that next time you do it, cut the whole rear frame rail out and move it inboard. then you will not have the staggered frame. you can fill in the sides with sheet styrene. these are old pictures so they are not the best quality. I need to get a picture of the final product.

haha Rich, that's funny, I, at the first of the year, decided it would be more productive for me to work on more than 1 project at a time. I have 5 on the bench right now. I found myself looking thru reference stuff and pulling a new kit off the shelf and fiddling with it instead of working on the one I was on the bench already. if I ran into a rut, I just put that one aside on the bench and turn to another one. this prevents me from starting any more new builds and keeps me focused on building instead of sitting on the couch, watching the boob tube because I ran into a problem on the one I was building. variety is the spice of life. I wasn't successfully finishing anything because of the lack of focus on one kit. I don't really know how it works, but it's working for me. I should be real close to finishing the 5 I have on the bench here at the end of the month. -
only way to fly.... LOVE my turntable.

sorry for drudging up old posts on the thread, but I just found it....... WOW, Link Wray. have not heard that name in a long time. have some stuff by him. what about when he played on Robert Gordon first album.... classic. Godfather of the power chord.... nice.

nice build. did a very clean job. I personally like you painted the whole chassis and didn't do the "overspray" thing. I know the purists may disagree.
-
nice build. got a few more nice ones in the background also.

hey Dale, I am with you 100% you are a great father, just sitting and watching them build, or just doing anything with your kids is a plus today. your kids must be cut from the same mold as mine. I have a 20 year old in college and a 12 year old in 6th grade. they never brought a report card home with less than a B on it, they played sports, they are known throughout our small community, very polite and hard workers.... except when they cross that magical front door, they seem to morph into something else. not bad kids, just not the "do your chores" kids. common sense.... HA, unfortunately, they don't have any. too bad they don't have a class on that. good luck with the "build-off", keep us updated on their progress...... and tell them you love them every day!!

looking real nice Tyrone, kind of out of your wheelhouse... a FORD?..... with a HEMI........ kidding. real nice as usual. on a side note, you guys down south have been hammered this year with bad weather. has to bring things to a screeching halt. we have had 15+ days up here recording temps below zero. keep warm and keep building!!

1:24/25 64 Chevy Pro Street Truck Project
tubbs replied to DirtModeler's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
nice build Michael, cool looking truck. the mismatched body panels and the rust will make it really different. I just cant get past the "new suspension parts/old rusty frame" look. it would take everything inside me to keep from sanding and painting the frame, and the body for that matter. the 67 chevelle choice for parts is a good one, it should give you plenty of stuff to do the pickup. I love pro street and I will be watching.
