Virgil I was a single dad for so long, it really hit me when the middle son left. The "and then there was one" syndrom took over and the baby and I spent a lot of quality time together. She's leaving but I have a great wife to share life with now. Time to travel, build, and share my life with someone else now. G

Last one is headed to college as we speak. My "moment" came when my oldest enlisted in the Navy, and became a corpsman just in time for ODS. He deployed with the Marines, which made me happy proud, and terrified all at the same time. First grandchild was a defining moment as well. I have them so spread out, 4 wives now, I have a daughter and granddaughter the same age. G

I am ashamed to say I have built ......................ONE 77 Monaco. CHP naturally, and I left it in St Louis with the rest of the display at the academy library. I need to build at least three more, a CHP slicktop, a St Louis County ride, and my first ride off field training. -insert look ashamed emoticon here- G

In my career, the Board of Police Commissioners always attempted to "define" the job. Three times they spent a lot of money on studies done by university folks. These always concluded with the phrase something like "and anything else that may occurr." Really? Any two year patrolman could have told you that. @James, yes we got a break that day. He drove onto the concrete divider, which is exactly what a tank obstacle is made like. He was a nano second from breaking free when it ended. "A man's got to know his limitations." G

I was actually reminded of the San Diego incident where the culprit used a tank stolen from the National Guard. The PD called the Marines at Camp Pendleton for asistance, as they had no way to stop an M60. The whole incident ended before the Jarheads could get to town with anti tank weapons. Thank Goodness. The other one that comes to mind is the farmer in Kansas who welded plates to his bulldozer and went ape poop in town. They filled the now armored cabin with gas and he finally stopped. Every now and then something occurrs that just scares the heck out of ya. G

I briefly owned a Road Runner that had that body style. It wasn't a bad looking car but with a Cali spec 360, it was slow............... G

Spike strips are not designed for this. Cars and trucks yes, big azz tractors, no. Jonathan, LV Metro has stockpiled CV's for about a year now and they realized it was a mistake. They now believe it would have been better to change the fleet early on, financially speaking. NHP bought a bunch of Fords late in the production run, and changed the graphics again. They were phasing Chargers into the fleet, and saw a chance to amend the graphics. It will be the third time in the 5 years I've lived here that the cars have new markings. Funny thing is though, they went back to the future with the same old star and diagonal stripes like decades ago. G

No one's going to lose their job over this, but it will strain the county budget to the limit. Fleet and salary are the two largest budget items in any police agency. There's no telling what police equipment is salvageable as well. Lights, sirens and radios aren't cheap, and laptops, if equipped, are very expensive. The actual car is the easiest to replace, it just takes $$. I'm surprised they only estimated $250,000 in damages. G

Here's a few. And a conversion using Revell's kit. The rest are in a display case in the St Louis Police Academy Library. I never took photos of them. Those include Highway Patrol cars from Alabama, Arkansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Tennessee, Florida, and Missouri, Wyoming, Nevada and Utah. There are cars from LAPD, LASD, Dallas, and the NYPD. I also have trucks and some vintage police cars in that display as well. G

MoRon indeed. Based on personal experience, better the police cars than your personal car. I walked out one night to find a bullet hole in the camper shell on my brand new '94 F150. Seems someone took offense with the North Patrol Division and shot up our back lot. I've seen Super Troopers, and thought, well now that's a real skewed view of the police. Now you tell me that's not that far from the truth? Where do I sign? G

Can you imagine that "Dear Chief" memo? Dear Chief, we were all inside screwing off when a demented felon destroyed all the cars. This is just about the strangest thing I have ever heard happening in or around a station house. Believe me when I say I have worked some tough houses in some tough hoods, but this beats it all. G

I was born in '55, so like Harry, grew up in the 60's and 70's. Mom came from a motorcycle oriented family. I still have the panoramic photo of gramps and granny astride the 1919 HD J model with sidecar they had. Dad rode a BSA and my brother a Yamaha. I was doomed from the start to be a bike guy, and I still am. Brother Neal is a Khe Sahn Marine, so dad was a bit hesitant to let me enlist when I turned 17. I assured him the war was over, and danger no longer existed. April 1975 I was found myself in Saigon evacuating folks.........................................................never say never. My experiences in the Corps gave me a unique outlook on life which I enjoy. Danno says I'm way too frikkin cheerful for my own good. First car, 1962 Pontiac Catalina 421SD First bike, Yamaha 125 Enduro bored to about 170cc's First street bike, Yamaha TX 500a, then a HD Sportster. G
