  1. NATO Black is one of the three colors adopted by NATO ground forces as a standardized camoflage. NATO green, brown and black were applied in a random pattern to tanks, trucks and APC's right up to ODS. You'll see this camo on Marine Corps M60A1's that weren't painted tan in Kuwait. It's a really really really dark gray, almost say uh, black. G
  2. Mostly Old Parts And Rust G
  3. Ditto the comments! Bill, I think they were all preprogrammed to self destruct in 2000. G
  4. My two cents. The General Lee is a fictional car. They used many different '68-'69 Chargers during the course of just one episode. Unless you are building a replica of a specific car, TV, movie, etc. don't kill yourself. By that I mean don't sweat the details so much. Your build will stall, and your shirt will be wet. 100% of the folks who see the final build will recognize what the car is, a well built replica of an iconic TV show. Maybe 5% of those folks will ever notice the details. I'll go out on a limb here too. Any contest judge who would detract points on a beautifully built General based on "history" is an idiot. G
  5. Our average rainfall is right at 4.5 inches a year. January of '10 saw it rain 4 inches in two days of steady rain. This year, so far, 2.5 inches. G
  6. 106 and 38% humidity is BAD, very BAD! Here at 106 the humidity was only about 5%. It's now 30%, 101, and fixin' to rain like a Mo fo. G
  7. Unfortunately I think that while a neat idea, it just wouldn't sell. My take is that folks who collect these things, i.e. resin ball parks, bridges, light houses, cat houses etc. are not really builders. There is a difference, to me at least, between "builder" as in model builder and "collector". Now that said you can be one or the other or both. I am both but this doesn't spark my interest. I'd buy maybe one, my hometown ball park, Bush Stadium (which no longer exists BTW) or it's replacement New Bush (sucks) and that's about it. Oh, I'd buy Wrigley Field just to keep peace with the war department, she's a Chicago native. I'm not convinced that there would be enough sales to sustain production beyond the first two or three, if that. G
  8. I like that a lot. Now you need a big rubber lizard foot, like Godzilla is ready to step on the tank. G
  9. Awesome work! The paint and finish is first rate. Hey include a pic with a coin or something similar, as I bet not a lot of folks are familiar with 1/144th scale birds. G
  10. Head to a craft store like Michaels or Hobby Lobby and look for "embossing powder". You probably won't find an exact match but, they can be mixed to come close to a correct shade. I did this with some flocking several years ago. I needed a specific shade of turquoise for the carpet in a '49 Merc. As I recall I used green, white and a bit of blue to get what I needed. G
  11. Freakin' sweet! That is so clean and just spot on. Bear, Those were used as paddy wagons by St Louis for several model years. The Police Library had pics in the archives. They were black, and get this, had a bell mounted over the radiator. The pull cord ran back across the hood and went through a hole drilled in the windshield frame. The only other mod I recall wwere windows cut in the sides of the body behind the driver's compartment. Those were covered with a heavy screen and two horizontal steel bars. G
  12. It is a model? Right? Like you built it, from plastic and stuff? G
  13. Yet again you continue to astound me. If I hadn't been along for the ride, I would never believe these were pics of a model. I love the colors. G
  14. I have a three bedroom place, it's just the two of us and a spastic beagle........ Just sayin................... G
  15. Harry I grew up and did my entire career in St Louis. We're talking 98 and 90 percent humidity some summers. I got tired of breathing through a straw and moved here. Trouble is week before last we had, for us, high humidity (40%) and heat (upper 90's). That created some of the gosh darndest thunder storms I've seen lately. The desert cannot absorb that much water that fast so we had flooding and roads washed out. Still I wouldn't trade it for the midwest ever again. G
  16. Wussy It's 106 here as we speak, no change in sight. G
  17. I plan as I go along. I had this idea to "upengine" an Impala SS. I looked at my stash and chose a LS1 from a Polar Lights GTO. Then as I was grokking the pile of parts, it hit me I could use the GTO's seats in the Impala's interior. I popped the hood on a co workers GTO for detail. I just sort of "cut and pasted" the seats. It all looks like it belongs. G
  18. One day I got to poking around in the parts box. I had just received my copy of "The Birth of Hot Rodding" so was inspired to build this. Everything in this build came from the parts box or was scratch built. I really didn't plan anything, it just sort of fell together. G
  19. Amen to that! I rode from St Louis to KC in a thunderstorm that spanned the state. That was the cleanest my bike had been in a while LOL! G
  20. Beautiful builds! Man I love those tall ships. I am sitting here recovering from knee surgery as we speak! I have three projects I just started, one I want to finish, and one ordered. I'll be building my first wooden ship next month. I have to make room first. G
  21. Yet again here's a guy who posts photos of the real thing attempting to pass it off as one of his builds. The shame........... John that is freakin' sweet! I can hear that monster running. G
  22. I like the idea of the Talledaga Bird, but have you given a thought to color? I personally think bright colors, like the yellow depicted, is a bit much for such a large car. That said, Grabber Blue is a fave of mine regardless of what car it's on. G
