Well it's that time of year again...
Agent G replied to thesnake87's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
There's a young brother lives around here with a beautiful black Aston Martin DBS. I was gawking at the car one day and he walked up. Says want to sit inside? I regretfully declined the offer as I was afraid my pistol, handcuffs and what not would mar his dove gray leather seats. I work in plain clothes but am painfully aware of what the equipment does to an interior. He introduced himself, but for the life of me I cannot remember his name. He was sporting a Super Bowl ring, but without a helmet and his name on a jersey I'm lost. Besides I was way to engrossed in his car. G -
I picked up a set of polishing sand paper sheets at Hobby Lobby last week. They range in grit sizes from 3000 to 12000. You start with the 3000 and lightly wet sand the entire body with each sheet, all the way up to 12000. It seems strange to sand a paint job,but the end result is what you want. Then you use a good polish and a soft cotton flannel cloth to polish the paint out. I use an old white 100% cotton t shirt. G

Saw a baby blue Aston Martin convertible on the way home yesterday. Parked next to a black Maserati Quadraporte day before. A neighbor has one of the last '48 Ford woodies in existence, in his garage. Lots of cool stuff around here, every Saturday morning we have "Cars and Coffee" at a local parking lot. The strip mall closes the lot and we have Vetts here, rods over there, classics in the middle and every other wheeled vehicle imaginable. I took my old BMW one morning and could have sold it for mucho bucks, but I like the old girl way too much. G -

Legends is good stuff. I bought one set for a Pz IV and have used bits and pieces on several builds now. Tamiya kit eh? Interesting as I haven't seen that mine plow before. Thats a fun kit to build. I've done one, and have another waiting it's turn. G -
enamels or acrylics plastic cars
Agent G replied to robdot's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
If you are referring to the tall round bottles they are commonly called "craft paints". They can be used for many purposes, however they too are their own "beast" LOL. Primer is a must, and brush painting is best accomplished with multiple light coats. They can be airbrushed with the proper thinning, I used 70 % rubbing alcohol and low pressures. Now Tamiya paints are the bomb, especially if you use their thinner. Vallejo paints are supreme brush paints but expensive. I have not used Vallejo airbrush paints yet but hear they are swell. Model Master acrylics are, well, there. True acrylics, they are more closely related to the craft paints mentioned above. Thinned with Windex they airbrush very well. G -

I blame all these issues on my pain meds..................... G -
Aw Harry, and I thought the ones in front of my place were from Area 51. G

That turned out very very nice. Some issues if I may? It's way too clean for an urban copcar, it is undamaged, and it has all it's wheelcovers. Looks good Janne. G

A very insightful discussion here boys and girls. Very insightful. I whole heartedly agree with Jantrix regarding the whole back channel critique. That approach (paraphrase),"Hey that's a nice effort, I think I have some ideas that might help." is how it should be done. Why alienate the young 'uns before they have a chance to become old and cranky like us? Just think, three pages and no one's gone off the handle. Holy Chrome Spinners Batman! G

Are we done yet ?
Agent G replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I find it interesting Jake, who if I recall is only 16 or so, posted six photos of modern cars that he apparently considers good looking. Three of these, Camaro, Mustang, and Challenger are, arguably, design throwbacks to an earlier era. I'm torn, having grown up in the 60's I love the cars, but I wouldn't trade modern technology for one. Lazy I guess. Every time I think cars become more and more generic looking, something comes along that makes me think "ooohhhh, me likey". As far as that rod on page 1, not my cup o' tea, but consider this, it was built for a role in a movie. Different standards there. G -

Are these enamels? If so maybe warming the can in some hot water prior to spraying might help. I've used that trick for years now with hobby enamels and it really seems to help. G -
At least when I started in '79 we had a real honest to goodness electronic siren! Trouble was that mega hundred watt speaker was on the roof directly above us. Can you say deaf? Huh? What? LOL Fast forward 28 years and my new 07 Impala. I got that 45 days before retirement. As a Sgt. I rode one man, so I got my trusty wrench and moved that darn laptop so I'd fit in the car. Right, no one could ride with me and I couldn't reach the AC/Heat controls. Now, holy stink Batman. My oldests was in traffic for a few years. He had accessories on his bike we only dreamed of back in my day. G

Neener neener neener your car is a wiener, 'cause it's metal!! Sorry, just had to get that out of my system. I'm really enjoying this and pardon me for being late to the show. I have no real opinion on MCM's content either way. To me (a quite dedicated armor guy BTW) I just want to see a well built piece and a good article on how it was done. Seems the tractor fit that bill quite well. I'm never too old to learn sumptin'new. Terry I laughed my butt off regarding the comment on car laptops. I snuck a peek in one of NHP's new Dodges the other day and thought I was on the bridge of the Enterprise with Capt Kirk. I'd be afraid to even start the car anymore! But.........I could go back on the street tomorrow. G
