  1. Nick that came out nice. I actually drove a CV in that color! Same year and body style too. I got the mold made for spotlights finally, sorry it took so long. I'll be casting some this weekend. Let me know. G
  2. Nice job on the puddle pirate ride. I used the old AMT kit, wheels were from a 454ss truck. I modified the tailgate to represent two cargo doors. If I remember correctly I sanded off all the door trim too. I know I cut off the running boards and drilled new holes in the chassis to lower the ride height as these were 2 WD. G
  3. Not to hijack, for inspirational purposes only. Exact replica of a Traffic Safety Sergeant's ride. I scratchbuilt all the police stuff. G
  4. Well you have to drive what they provide, so we made do. Not exactly spacious, but interestingly enough they had just enough pickup for our needs. Remember, when running hot, city cops drag race a block at a time. You don't need a lot of top end, just decent acceleration and good brakes. We were in a pursuit on I 70 once. The speedo's only went to 85mph as I recall, and my partner keeps asking "how fast we going?" I kept telling him "85!, 85!, quit asking me Ron, I'm freakin' busy drivin'!" He leans over and LOOKS! I'm like, dude get the %^$# over there and broadcast this on the radio. We finally got them with the assistance of the Highway Patrol. I wasn't sure if I wanted to laugh, cry, or bean Ron with a nightstick. Top speed? Who knows................... I lost Ron in '95, best partner I ever had. G
  5. Sorry to take so long getting back here. Works been a big B lately and I have to catch up on my criminal cases before I take sick leave. That Volvo looks spot on in regards to the roofline. I'm thinking about three kits and it should make a good curbside rendition. Yes we drove Celebrities! '83 through '86 models actually had a 9C1 police package. '87's and '88's were Eurosports, redline trim, console shifters, bucket seats. They weren't bad in an urban area. Forget about interstate traffic enforcement though. By popular demand we transitioned back to Caprice's in '89. There was no room in a Celebrity for two cops and a MDT (computer. G
  6. Oh heck yeah! I never sneak any kits in, and I'm always upfront about what I order online. Her comment most of the time is "get two, you know you want to". Her passion is fitness, she's a marathon runner, and we have accumulated a bunch of exercise equipment. I have lost 14 lbs just because. I don't think I have anything to complain about there either. Gotta love a women like that. G
  7. I've said this before, but will post it again as this thread is quite entertaining. Wife #1 - We weren't together long enough for her to express an opinion. I shipped out, she moved home. Wife #2 - Deliberately broke any build she thought was a particular favorite of mine. Tried to be sneaky about it too. Bye bye........... Wife #3 - Appreciated the skills necessary for a clean build, but didn't want any stash. Finally said she felt that the hobby was childish. Bye bye............. Wife #4 - Attends shows, club meetings, and the LHS with me. Buys stuff she thinks is "cute" and asks me to build it. Her comment early on was " I'd rather have you sitting at the breakfast bar building a model, that sitting in a bar hitting on one." Keeper! G
  8. I too have had masking tape react. 3M blue painters tape and Tamiya spray can laquers do NOT get along. I too like the flake effect. G
  9. So far so good Spud! I like your thinking when it comes to paint and colors. It looks like something happened on the front fenders? Did you break something or did the paint react? G
  10. Put it this way, a real Gato is just over 311 ft in length, so in 1/24 scale it would be roughly 13 feet long, 12.958 ft to be precise. Ain't no *&^%$#@ way my wife would let me build that. G
  11. That looks spot on. Can we have more pics please?? How was thet kit? I really want to build that and the U boat and go all out with some AM sets. G
  12. One of my personal goals is building a model of every police car I drove in my career. I have completed an '86 Caprice, a 93 Caprice, a 95 Crown Vic, and a 2000 Crown Vic (die cast). I need to build a '78 Plymouth Fury (easy), a 83 Dodge Diplomat (die cast), a 83 Malibu ( 1/24 or 1/25 not the 1/32), a 85 Crown Vic (??), and a last, but to me the hardest, an 86 Chevy Celebrity. Ideas anyone? G
  13. One guy in particular, I won't mention who, has it set up where no matter what you bid, the very next thing you know is you've been out bid. I only assumed it was due to a reserve, as nothing was mentioned. I now avoid anything posted by this guy. G
  14. I've picked up a few things on Ebay over the years, never had any issues. One thing though, I despise the seller who sets the listing to automatically bid more than you each and every time you bid. If you have a reserve, announce the fact there is a reserve. G
  15. Sure do! For what it's worth, back in my day we washed and waxed trucks jeeps and other wheeled vehicles after training stateside. I always thought "What a pain in the azz". Then one day we were over at the Tank Battalion area at Camp Pendleton. Yup, them treadheads were washing and waxing those massive beasts. I have completed five USMC tanks as of now. I'll be building one more, an M1A1 from OIF, then I'm going to make each it's own base. The tanks will be appropriately "dusted" to fit in with the terrain. G
  16. Gotcha thanks! I have a 1/10th scale bust of a "Pirate Captain", think a film just released (part IV, and he's holding a flintlock in his right hand. I was almost sure it would be browned in the 1700's, but didn't quite know. G
  17. I've owned a lot of cars, and a lot of bikes over the years. My favorite car is my present ride, an '05 Lincoln Town Car. Just the ticket for an old pot bellied semi retired guy. I will have to say my fave bike of all time (so far) is my '95 BMW R100RT. The old airhead boxer has the maintainence requirements of a brick, and just keeps going and going. There've been a few come and gone since I bought the Beemer new, a Ducati, a MotoGuzzi, and a Honda, but I will always keep the BMW. G
  18. Daniel I'm doing research for another project and you just might have the answer. About when did the "classic" bluing process become widespread? I need to replicate a finish on a flintlock pistol circa 1650 and I'm thinking browned. G
  19. Great stuff folks! John is that the Ross Gibson resin motor in your build there? G
  20. Shelby's facility is about 30 miles from my place on the other side of the valley. Every Ford dealer in Clark County has a few on their lot. I so wish I could justify one of those......... G
  21. Romel with my armor builds I use any old dark metallic gray as a base coat. I then mix Tamiya smoke and Tamiya clear blue 50/50, thin it a bit with Tamiya acrylic thinner and paint over the dark gray. Thinned out a bit, these colors dry to a semi gloss and really add to the effect. MM acryl "Gunmetal" is a pretty good color straight from the bottle. I still over coat it with the Tamiya mixture though for a realistic gun blue. G
  22. You know I happy he lives around my neighborhood, next time I won't decline the offer. G
