  1. I observed a fist fight between two guys after a model car show one time. One did not like that the other "out placed" him. Really ? I was attending a rather prestigious military miniatures show once. As a late arrival began placing his work on the table, one of the judges loudly commented, " Why is he even here?, his work is lousy". I have not let these extreme examples of "boorishness" dampen my enthusiasm for the hobby. To paraphrase Terry, "Karma's a bitch" G
  2. I had heard upwards of 900hp and thought it was a misprint. 1000? Holy valvefloat Batman! G
  3. Correct me if I'm wrong but, one of the reasons is the pipes need to be equal in length? I know this came into play with the old Kawasaki 2 stroke triples, and I vaguely remember the Honda fours needing equal length pipes until they met in a 4 into 1 performance exhaust. By the way, any ideas on just how much HP these lil saki burners produce? I've heard astronomical numbers, but inquiring minds want to know. G
  4. Nicely done. How did you get that big honking Hemi in that lil bitty frame? What ever you did looks good to me. I'd have approached the bare metal finish differently, yet you pulled it off well. G
  5. Cold as heck here in Sin City. 65 today with, of all things, clouds! Seriously, gonna be rainy and chilly here this week. I do not miss midwestern winters at all. G
  6. I was transferred south for the first time in 1987. The Third District station was then located at 2727 S 12th St. This location is DIRECTLY across the street from AB. Yes that AB, world HQ and all that. Many times a good odor was had. G
  7. I cannot tell you what I ate for breakfast today, but I can relate all the details of a case from 20+ years ago. Having been born, raised and worked for 28 years in St. Louis, I refer to it as "Anheusers Disease". G
  8. Here's two. Photoyukkit quit working. G
  9. Sounds like the little piston has frozen up, then cracked or got scratched when you turned it on. Best and cheapest way imho is buy a new one. G
  10. I did not see what caused the demise of the nilmerg thread. Even so I cannot imagine, given this bunch of merry idiots (me included), it could have been THAT bad. There, I said what I felt without resorting to my usual way of expressing my thoughts. Very PC of me. Yes thats the last time ya'll will get PC outta me. Now tell me, is that Smart Car REALLY in a rally? G
  11. Yuppers, it's up on Natural Bridge and N. Newstead if I recall correctly. If you were in need of Lambo doors on ANY car, that was the place to go. Seriously any car..... There was a great bike shop up there too. Natural Bridge and Shreve or thereabouts. They did things with a Suzuki Hayabusa Japanese engineers could never imagine in their wildest dreams. Right across the street from them was Shreve engine rebuilders. Holy Crankcases Batman, could they build a motor. Trouble was, one guy there made some fine $$$ modifying cars and trucks with, shall we say, discreet compartments. Every self respecting dope dealer in the midwest had a vehicle with those "customizations". Then there is the motorcycle scrapyard just a few miles west in Wellston Mo. They had one building devoted to fenders alone. Oh talk about going to heaven. G
  12. Sunday afternoons in north St Louis brought out all the vehicular "art forms". Some of those, ahem, Donks, were really well engineered. There was a certain faction that took pride in their cars, built them well, painted them to perfection, and ONLY brought them out on Sundays. Do they look stupid? To each his own. I for one appreciate the engineering involved, yet do not feel the need to use a step stool to enter my ride. Then too there was a group of older gents that proudly displayed there land yacht convertibles. Most were original, or very well restored. Now those were a treat. G
  13. With the advent of airbags, old standards had to be re-evaluated. Bucket seats became the norm, giving more comfort and a storage area outside the airbag deployment zone. Vertical mounts for shotguns and rifles were now located between the seats. Prisoner cages posed unique challenges also. That six pound shotgun mounted on the cage sometimes became a lethal missle in a crash. I think firearms weren't included because "they are bad". Like it or not. G
  14. Semper Fi my brother. Just keep putting one foot in front of the other. G
  15. Hmmmm, I could use that. I do have three ex wives,........................... G
  16. All is forgiven, yet don't you think it's a bit too subtle? G
  17. Spent all weekend doing yard work. 81 yesterday and 61 last night. Far cry from the midwest G
  18. Hey, what the heck, no Nevadans allowed? G
  19. I'm partial to Floquil's "Old Silver" enamel to look like aluminum. It brushes well, just remember to stir it like crazy. If not mixed well it will cover, but will be fragile and rub off easily. Don't ask............... G
  20. Here's my next armor model. I'm still waiting for those GD tracks for the M60. This is a Dragon "Orange Box" 1/35 scale Panzer Mk III G. I did it in the desert camo from 1941. I'm very partial to AfrikaKorps vehicles once I found that a distant relative had served with the 15th Panzer Division. He was a POW in Arkansas after being captured in Tunisia. I scratched the rack on the rear as well as the jerry can rack on the fender. G
  21. While I have never tried it, a friend gets remarkable results by dipping his painted bodies in a container of Future. I airbrush it as a clear coat when I use enamel on armor models. I am partial to using oils as washes so Future protects the enamel, and helps the oils flow into recesses and seams. I let the enamel cure for a week or so, then let the Future cure for a few days. It makes a good clear parts adhesive, as well as making windshields sparkle. Decal setting solution will fog Future if is not completely cured. If you polish a paint job with Novus, Future will bead up and be repelled from the surface. G
