What did you get for Christmas?
Agent G replied to Railfreak78's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Oh, so you're the guy who raided my garage! LOL I was able to spend time with the step sons and the grandkids. I had long phone conversations with my three children, who sent us a great big box of fruit, nuts, cheese, and booze! MrsG and I decided to stop the gift thing between us long ago. We are content at this point in our lives to have each other, travel, and enjoy our children. I really cannot ask for more. G -
They are usually very simple, with sparse detail. Quickies for the kiddies to learn on. There have been, however a few produced that build into very nice models. The Revell Impala SS is an off shoot of their original Caprice police/taxi/firechief's car. It is essentially a snap kit gone wild. If I recall correctly Lindbergh's Crown Vic Police car kit, while a curbside,is a snap kit with good detail. There are more out there but these are the first two I thought of. G

Merry Christmas Marines
Agent G replied to Agent G's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Amen to that. I have a little bitty "Charlie Brown" type tree with one ornament. The ornament is my then seven year old niece's version of the Eagle Globe and Anchor. It still looks awesome. Semper Fi Bro G -
Simple but Heartfelt Message for All
Agent G replied to Danno's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I wish the same for you and yours. Merry Christmas! G -
By James M. Schmidt, a Marine Lance Corporal stationed in Washington, D.C., in 1986 Twas the night before Christmas, he lived all alone, In a one bedroom house made of plaster & stone. I had come down the chimney, with presents to give and to see just who in this home did live As I looked all about, a strange sight I did see, no tinsel, no presents, not even a tree. No stocking by the fire, just boots filled with sand. On the wall hung pictures of a far distant land. With medals and badges, awards of all kind, a sobering thought soon came to my mind. For this house was different, unlike any I'd seen. This was the home of a U.S. Marine. I'd heard stories about them, I had to see more, so I walked down the hall and pushed open the door. And there he lay sleeping, silent, alone, Curled up on the floor in his one-bedroom home. He seemed so gentle, his face so serene, Not how I pictured a U.S. Marine. Was this the hero, of whom I’d just read? Curled up in his poncho, a floor for his bed? His head was clean-shaven, his weathered face tan. I soon understood, this was more than a man. For I realized the families that I saw that night, owed their lives to these men, who were willing to fight. Soon around the Nation, the children would play, And grown-ups would celebrate on a bright Christmas day. They all enjoyed freedom, each month and all year, because of Marines like this one lying here. I couldn’t help wonder how many lay alone, on a cold Christmas Eve, in a land far from home. Just the very thought brought a tear to my eye. I dropped to my knees and I started to cry. He must have awoken, for I heard a rough voice, "Santa, don't cry, this life is my choice I fight for freedom, I don't ask for more. My life is my God, my country, my Corps." With that he rolled over, drifted off into sleep, I couldn't control it, I continued to weep. I watched him for hours, so silent and still. I noticed he shivered from the cold night's chill. So I took off my jacket, the one made of red, and covered this Marine from his toes to his head. Then I put on his T-shirt of scarlet and gold, with an eagle, globe and anchor emblazoned so bold. And although it barely fit me, I began to swell with pride, and for one shining moment, I was Marine Corps deep inside. I didn't want to leave him so quiet in the night, this guardian of honor so willing to fight. But half asleep he rolled over, and in a voice clean and pure, said "Carry on, Santa, it's Christmas Day, all secure." One look at my watch and I knew he was right, Merry Christmas my friend, Semper Fi and goodnight. Merry Christmas to all. G

What are your Projects for 2011
Agent G replied to Clay's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Whoo Hoo Jimmy! Looking good. I plan on finishing the Impala SS, one of the police cars that I drove and a choice resin '54 Olds. G -
The sculpting requires a bit of finnessing, however the skintones are right on. I'm thinking "Best of Show". Good job Blake. I have three, the Mrs has two, and we have four grandkids between them. Wouldn't have traded them for anything. Well, maybe a new pickup............. G

Hear Hear! We elected a new Governor who in turn appointed two new Boardmembers. The Gov and the boardmembers actually "get it". Believe it or not tourism is up, revenue is on the rise, and none of us cops are being laid off. (insert crossed fingers here...............) Like Jim said, we're still waking up everyday. Even with all the bad s%!& happening I haven't lost my sence of humor, nor should anyone else. Merry Christmas to all and a Happy New Year. G

It's a rough year, but I made it. But not everyone is as lucky as I am...... The economy is so bad that I got a pre-declined credit card in the mail. I ordered a burger at Burger King, and the kid behind the counter asked, "Can you afford fries with that?" CEO's are now playing miniature golf. If the bank returns your check marked "Insufficient Funds," you have to call them and ask if they mean you or them . Hot Wheels and Matchbox stocks are trading higher than GM. Burger King is selling the 1/4 'ouncer'. Parents in Beverly Hills and Malibu are firing their nannies and learning their children's names. A truckload of Americans was caught sneaking into Mexico . Dick Cheney took his stockbroker hunting. Motel Six won't leave the light on anymore. The Mafia is laying off judges. Exxon-Mobil laid off 25 Congressmen. And how rough was it for you? G

Anyone airbrushing acrylics....?
Agent G replied to bigmikevee's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I find Testors acrylics spray well when cut with Windex. I usually spray this mixture at about 15-20 PSI. Tip dry is a common problem with acrylics. Keep a qtip soaked in Windex nearby and periodically swab the nozzle. I thin Tamiya acrylics with their laquer thinner exclusively. I can turn the pressure down to about 10PSI for tight camo patterns. Rarely do I experience tip dry with this combo. It's almost like spraying enamels. Multiple light coats are the way to achieve a good finish with acrylics. What's the humidity like in your neck o' the woods? Where I'm at 30% is high, and paint seems to dry in the jar! I must thin any paint about 20% more than what I was used to back in the midwest. G -

In Nevada all the academies have extensive EVOC training. The one thing I noticed is the kiddos train on the Crown Vic. While that is the police car of choice with the NHP, LV Metro, and North LV PD's, Henderson PD drives Tahoes. Hmmmm. Remember, the two largest items in any PD budget are first, salaries, and second, fleet. Fleet is a term used to encompass all aspects of, purchase, maintainence, gas, equipment etc etc etc. It has been my experience EVOC is considered a necessary evil by the bean counters, and gets what's left over. Niteowl hit the answer right on. G

Are you a "scale snob?"
Agent G replied to ian ashton's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If I find the subject interesting, I will buy it regardless of scale. I really want to try 1/16th armor but don't have the display space right now. G -
Ok I googled the movie and viewed the opening. That is definately an attempt to replicate a Nevada Highway Patrol car. Silver roof over dark blue were the colors then. The door had a seven point star with the words "Highway Patrol" curving over the star. Their star is not a legit representation, but then again neither is the car. BTW one scene looks like it was shot on I 95 near the I 93 interchange, not far from my house. G

I lost a buddy today
Agent G replied to Agent G's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thank You All. I guess the holidays have a lot to do with this hitting so hard. I cannot help wondering if I was there, then maybe...................... But deep down I know better. Bill made his decision, and none of us could have changed his mind. G -
Blue and silver would be Nevada Highway Patrol. Their markings were nearly identical to California back then. G
