  1. I just heard a long time friend and former co worker shot himself early this morning. While not the first fellow LEO to commit suicide, this one really got to me. We've all been through some bad times, so why? G
  2. Yes they did, as well as spotlight handles, white or ivory. G
  3. I heard! Does your site have the photos of the '94 Impala SS we used for DUI enforcement? We had two of them and man they looked good. How about photos of those Chargers? They later tried to replicate those with black 2000 Impalas with spoilers and AM wheels. Not the same.......... G
  4. The Celebrity was a shock after driving full size RWD autos for years. Then again when the first of the Nova's arrived we all had to stand back and wonder. That ended the first trip around the block with the Nova's 350, tranny and Belaire brakes. That Nova started our trend toward smaller mid size autos. From the Nova we got Malibus, then Fairmonts, then Celebritys. After the Fairmont the Celebrity was the bomb. Fast forward to full size Impalas and Caprices for a few years, followed by the Crown Vic in it's various guises. The CV wasn't bad in '96 and '97, it was actually quite nimble and served our purposes well. I understand troopers didn't like the car as it was unstable at speed but we city coppers liked it. I left six weeks after receiving an '07 Impala, yuck. G
  5. Welcome Andy and don't worry to much about mishaps. I've spilled more paint than I ever applied to any model. Hope you get a camera soon, we'd like to see your work. G
  6. Nick, I am interested in this resin body you purchased. If it is a good 74 Dodge, I would definately be interested in the link to the seller. G
  7. Missed this until now. My condolences on your loss, and joy the son got back. Heard the 'cuse got waylaid with a bunch a snow. G
  8. Ok To start, they are Black and White per California law. CHP cars have white front doors and white roofs. The window frames are black, only the door skin is white. All had push bumpers made by the CHP shop. The low band "whip" antenna is bolted to the fender opposite the fuel filler cap. If the fuel filler cap is under the rear license plate, the antenna is on the drivers side. Most CHP cars are slicktops, i.e. no roof lights. In that case there will be a spotlight on each side. They will be painted black. The driver's spot will have a red lens, and when turned on burns with a steady red. This too is per CA state law. In '74 CHP had two lights on the package shelf. One red and one amber. The amber light flashed per state law, sometimes the red did. They were on the drivers side amber to the outside. They didn't put the blue light back there until the early 80's. Picture two spotlights side by side, one red, one amber. If the car carried roof lights, in '74 it was the old skool square twinsonic. When they had a roof rack, both spotlights had clear lenses. Here's a cool link. http://members.fortunecity.com/chpcars/chp70.html G
  9. Lets see , How do I put this? Police agencies don't "hate" FWD cars, the coppers themselves do. The Ford CVPI cornered the market after GM nixed the Caprice after the '96 model year. I was ok with the Ford after the demise of the 9C1 Caprice, but always seemed to want something...........more. I drove the Dodge, ahem "Charger", and was less than impressed with the interior layout. It ran like stink in a straight line though. We drove a whole bunch of Chevrolet Celebritys, first major metropolitan PD to do so. Wow talk about, uh, slow. Funny thing was they held up, and really made pretty good alley rats. Trouble was they just didn't have it on the interstate. Don't get me started about the "new" Impala. Evil POS. That said, I had two pretty good long pursuits in Impalas that went well. I Had to PIT one suspect and my car didn't sustain much damage at all. The new Chevrolet Caprice looks promising as a return of the RWD V8 police car. Hmmm now to get my current boss to agree to order them. G
  10. Nick, What do you need to know about CHP cars? I have alot of refs and personal knowledge. G
  11. Ditto all of Danno's comments. Remember it's not what you say, it's how you say it. Difficult to be sure online of the posters intent. You never know, that particular build with runny paint, glue marks, and crooked wheels, may just be that person's best build to date. Oh wait, I'm describing my work. Nevermind G
  12. I've noticed here on this forum, folks tend to share ideas a lot more. I for one appreciate a photo with a comment like "This is how I did it". I personally will PM or submit the link, so as not to clutter the OP's thread. Goodness knows I need all the inspiration, uh help, I can recieve. G
  13. You can order stuff online, but alot of us just scrounge the wire from anywhere we find it. I use a lot of speaker wire, telephone wire, and plain old craft store floral wire. One roll of floral wire, the kind used to tie artificial flowers, will last for years. I'm looking for that Ford engine online for you. G
  14. Someone else actually realizes that super glue and accelerator isn't all that great for doing major body mods. Thank You! Very good job on the mods, I'm waiting anxiously to see where this goes. G
  15. Here's where I'm at as of right now. It's going to be a few weeks yet as I have had to pack things up for the Holidays. I'm calling the interior completed. The chassis is done. The engine and the engine compartment are nearly complete. I have scratched a filler panel for the headliner, and applied Future to the "glass", more to come. G
  16. Ditto all the above. My take is the sharp panel lines combined with the white primer is the cause. G
  17. You should be good to go with a ricepaper tape like Tamiya's masking tape. I always have issues with blue painters tape leaving residue on Tamiya spray no matter how long I let it dry. G
  18. Not sure about the decals, but Ford Engine Blue is a pretty close, if not an exact, match to the old NYPD cars. G
  19. Ditto all the above plus one caveat. I've found that polishing plastic with Novus is a good method, but in my experience Future is repelled by the Novus. I wash the freshly polished part before applying Future. Just my two cents. G
  20. Good one! I bet they blow the budget on letterhead copy paper with that name. G
