  1. The Michigan State Police was then and still is, the foremost agency in the nation regarding testing of vehicles for police work. Unlike the California Highway Patrol, MSP publishes the results for all vehicles, warts and all. California keeps the results in house, but you can tell by their purchases what they liked. My guess would be those agencies were buying what MSP bought back then. G
  2. '69 Camaro, red with black stripes, gorgeous car, an '83 El Camino that looked like it just left the show room and one of the neatest copcars yet. It was a '14 Nevada Hihgway Patrol Charger with retro markings. She had a silver roof over arctic blue body and markings straight from the 70's. Really neat, too bad I was at 80 and couldn't get a pic................... G
  3. Looking good! Go to K Mart and buy one of those $2.99 "For Sale" signs. All the .020 styrene you will need for any project, except this one.....LOL! Love the CRM Hobbies price tag. Chris is the man! G
  4. All right! Congratulations! G
  5. I didn't get the chance to post this yesterday. To those from BLT 3/4 who helped evacuate Saigon 40 years ago and didn't make it back. To all those fine Marines from the 24th MAU lost in Beirut so many years ago. Semper Fi Gentlemen. May you have fair winds and following seas. G
  6. I'm definately in. Most likely two of each to start. G
  7. I'd take the opposite approach to weathering. I'd paint everything underneath a light to medium gray with just a touch of brown. Think road grime everywhere but where I live. Here it'd be plain dust, a tan-gray shade. Then I replicate the remains of original finishes with washes of color. Say blue, representing the shocks as seen in the pic. It wouldn't be near as much blue though, as those are extended exposing the protected areas. Rust would be a combination of brown to red brown colors as washes, finished off with pastels or pigments. I'd treat it kind of like one of my armor builds, just upside down. G
  8. The chances of success depend on the age of the officer. Old skool coppers will be effected, however the new breed are all into bagels and latte............. G
  9. The best I can tell "smart kits" build only one version. They are still exceptionally detailed but not "over the top" like the super kits. G
  10. I'm taking a break from North African panzers and Shermans. This will be marked as a Battalion surgeons vehicle at the battle of Kursk. I found the unique markings in a set and just had to build it. G
  11. Well this area has grown exponentially and has begun to do so again. I do believe there is a common problem with those cars regardless of make. The nut that holds the steering wheel is loose................................. G
  12. Thank you gentlemen! No Jim I haven't. Zimmerit is one of the reasons I usually model German armor from North Africa, those vehicles didn't have it applied............................. G
  13. The 103 series boats were painted gray as delivered to the US Navy from Elco. Once in the Pacific it was determined they needed to blend in more during the daylight hours. Remember these boats in the Solomons usually worked at night and put up during the day. They were painted green as to hide under the trees at waters edge. PT 109 was one of the first batch delivered and there are plenty of photos showing her on the deck of the transport ship. It's obvious even in B/W photos she's painted gray at that time. The old movie was pretty accurate in that the 109 was a semi derelict when Kennedy took command. There is nothing to suggest she wasn't repainted green even before that. She most certainly would have been re-painted green while being restored. http://www.pt103.com/index.html This is all the reference you might need. G
  14. Stay off California roads...................... On the other hand if those 48 cars were in Nevada, specifically the Clark County area, 45 would have been involved in accidents already. 20 of them with each other, regardless of which "mode" they were in. G
  15. I found the Eureka XXL cable exactly 24 hours after I built these. Naturally............. The zimm was easy to work with. It has to be cut from the backing which is not really an issue, just time consuming. It takes some care with initial placement but can be pulled up and repositioned as long as it's not completely down. I found some issues on the mantlet after priming this morning. Some of the more abrupt edges where two pieces meet came up. Probably more me that it! The nice part is that it's mostly transparent, you can see where it's going and where it shoud be. Overall fit and ease of work was very good. I have some DML Tigers in the stash so I will hit you up for references down the road. G
  16. In 50 years of modelling this is only the second Tiger I I have ever built. It's the Tamiya "Mid-Production" version with their own indy link tracks. I got it in a raffle so I splurged on Tamiy's zimmerit set and a RB barrel. Cables are picture wire using the kit's cable ends. Everything else is scratchbuilt or from a leftover PE set. She's going into primer as we speak. G
  17. Standing lines are usually tarred, therefore black, running lines would be natural hemp bleached out so white isn't that too far off. Cool build. G
  18. Andy, basketball is the most common sport in which point shaving occurs. The mere fact that just one player can effect the game as much as they can makes it very easy. ASU immediately comes to mind. The three guys involved won most of the games, but made the spread thus earning tons of money. Interestingly several Race and Sports Books here in Las Vegas were first to figure it out. Those are long involved investigations too. The FBI always takes the lead, but they always come to us for assistance. Fun stuff! G
