Well compared to everything else on the boob tube nowadays, Barney Miller surpasses them all as a crime drama/police procedural. Even the "live" shows are edited to hell and back for content. If you have a basic understanding of the law enforcement profession, you'd know that the job is essentially 8 hours of boredom interrupted by seconds of sheer terror. Detective work is BORING. I have been assigned to various bureaus and while I loved every minute of it, it was basically mundane day to day foot slogging. As far as Barney Miller is concerned in all this, you actually have to watch it, pay attention and understand what is taking place. The comedy is a by product of the interaction of the characters during their crime fighting activities. This taking place in a big city, within an old building. The personalities involved are quite accurate and reflect the diversity found in a large department. I have had some funny stuff happen in my nearly 39 years on the job. I'm gone from "the Lou" 11 years as of today. I miss the people, but not the place. That said I'd go back in a heartbeat for the right salary. So to summarize. While billed as a sitcom, it is still the best depiction of what real police detectives deal with in their day to day activities. I'd call the "procedural" any day. G

My '93 had a 60/40 split bench, the '94 and '95 had buckets. The few marked '91's I drove, I was a detective then, had 60/40 benches. The '93 had carpet, a fabric front seat, power windows and door locks. Quite uncommon for a radio car in that era. Curiously the '93 had a dark blue interior, the '94's and '95's had a light blue/gray interior. I had a '96 for a short period that had a red interior. Quite remarkable for a cop car. G

You won't need that much from the '91 for the '94. Eliminate the spoiler mounting depression and the Impala SS emblems. If LASD had bucket seas, just sand off the SS from the kit's buckets. You can take the interior and engine from the '91 and combine it with the SS body for a '93 as well. I've driven nearly every year of this car in one form or another. G

I wish they would have re tooled the side view mirrors of the '95-'96 models. But I'll take it. G

This is exactly like the car I drove way back when. I HAVE to get one of these. G

What non-auto model did you get today?
Agent G replied to chunkypeanutbutter's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Today I packed up most of my stash and my extensive paint collection. Tomorrow will be most of my tools, the rest of the stash and all the spares. I will finish two current armor builds, then stop. Things have changed dramatically in my life leaving no time for building. Hopefully it will resume sometime in the future. G -
Upper 80's here. Going to be in the 90's by next week. Springtime in the Mojave. G

USMC, BLT 3/4 at the bitter end. I didn't have a camera so all pics are from the web. I was about ten feet behind the photographer. These were guys from another squad. Set a perimeter around this bird. Back parking lot of the US Embassy in Saigon. Can't swear to it but I may be the one standing alone in the background to the left. G

"Enlarged heart" That lady had more heart than half the population of the US. Hope she's at peace riding away in heaven. G -
Those alley shots remind me of when I lived on Wilmington and Livingston, across from St Stephens. Where was the Mustang show held?

New Tamiya Lacquers for Airbrushing?
Agent G replied to Snake45's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Gunze Sangyo's "Self Leveling Thinner" and "Mr Color Thinner" are superb when used with Tamiya X and XF acrylics. I see no reason that either wouldn't work just as well with these new lacquers. G -
Remind me to brush you up on Polish, Yiddish and Hebrew phraseology next meeting. G

I've already driven the Altima to LA and back and thoroughly enjoyed the drive. The Maxima left me "less than impressed", not to mention it loses 30% of it's value at closing. Infinitis are great , but not for me. The CVT can take some adjustment, but I have no issues with it what so ever. I learned to roll on the gas as opposed to just mashing the pedal flat. The lil bugger will scoot then. G

Super clean and, as you already know, Spot On. G

Where Belly Tankers Come From
Agent G replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Paper P-51 drop tanks. Developed to prevent the enemy from obtaining a source of sheet aluminum. We were bombing the German war industry into submission and gave no quarter. We were getting spread thin as well. Definitely one time only. G
