1982 Dodge Dip - Louisiana State Police - Custom Parts
Agent G replied to DEL's topic in WIP: Model Cars
We not only had Celebritys, we used them for 5 model years '84-'88. Keep in mind Chevrolet discontinued the 9C1 package on that car after the '87 model year. The last of our Celebritys were retail "EuroSport" versions made into radio cars. These had consoles and shifters between the bucket seats. Actually not bad for what and where we used them. A heavily populated urban are doesn't lend itself to big hot rod cars. It was when the car began being used for everything, Traffic, Canine, SWAT etc. it became ridiculous. A district co worker was killed in a deliberate car crash September of '89. His Celebrity was rammed by a '77 Ford Galaxy at speed. The damage to the police car was so severe, our protests so loud, the bean counters began buying Caprices again. The link must have broken so here it is again. G *Edit* This was taken at Fleet Services. (Not my photo, used here for discussion only) Those are '90 Caprices in the background. That was the year we went back to all white cars for the fleet. http://www.odmp.org/officer/9127-police-officer-michael-a-mcnew -

Yup, Fleet Services insisted on using Armorall on everything inside the car. We wore those funky polyester blend uniform trousers by then. My son's Slip and Slide didn't work as well as those slick vinyl seats. A lot of urban agencies used six cylinder cars. Those poor County guys were just miserable, especially in that hot humid Midwestern summer. I shouldn't laugh though, 1984 saw us adopting the Celebrity as the front line district radio car. G -

We used "full size" cars as "lock ups" with a prisoner cage. I recall the Dip's seats being slabs of smooth vinyl, no pattern, no stitching, nothing. Gutless is a polite way of expressing the car's performance. Still we laughed because the county cops had Diplomats with six cylinders. G -

Beautifully done sir! I only drove one or two of those in my career. Interesting ours were white with blue interiors as well. G -

The trouble with that comparison Bill is the fact that the .357 and the .30-06 are old school tried and true cartridges. The F-35 is a brand new, whizz bang, ultra high tech, bird. The A-10 is old school and extremely effective. Kinda like comparing a .357 to a lightsaber. Rumors from Nellis and NAS Fallon is that no one likes flying the thing........................... I still carry a revolver off duty, my work rifles have iron sights and my work pistol is older than my daughter. Why? They work. G

9-11-01 was the most surreal day I ever experienced in my then 22 year police career. After digesting the loss of all those people, civilians and services alike, not knowing what may be next was the biggest issue. Eerie. G

need help and info I am building the most famous model t of all
Agent G replied to dodge5522's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Here's an idea for tracks. A 1/35th scale model of this would look just right under your wagon. Several kits are produced, it's a Russian B-4 M1931 203mm howitzer. I do not have one, otherwise I'd send it to you. If you want, now that I'm home, I will look in my stash and see what tank wheels and tracks I can find. G -
Depends on the era. John Wayne Lee Marvin Steve McQueen Gregory Peck Maureen O Hara and many many more. Now a days, Leonardo Di Caprio Johnny Depp Russell Crowe-I REALLY liked his character in LA Confidential. G

Last Saturday, Sept 3, my middle son got married. His new bride is a wonderful woman. The wedding was in the Ozarks and I was happy to attend. G

I cannot begin to speak on this, so I will just quote my eloquent brother from another mother. Stay strong Harry. G

Thanks to a generous forum member, I aquired a set of Chicago Police decals and the period cop stuff from the new '48 Ford kit. I am planning to build a shoebox cop car as seen here. "148" is a restored '50 model 4 door, but you get the idea. Naturally the body is in the purple pond already and I will be busy busy for the next two weeks. More to come. G

Nearly 37 years in law enforcement. Retired once, got bored and went right back after moving west to Las Vegas. I am a "Senior Agent" (sergeant) with the Nevada Gaming Control Board. It's a state law enforcement agency tasked with policing the gaming industry. I specialize in computer fraud, money laundering and anything else criminal that comes my way. G

When did color fall out of favor?
Agent G replied to Lunajammer's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My brother in law wanted to take a day trip in his then new Challenger. I'm not sure what was worse, Death Valley in the early summer, or riding/driving the Challenger. He finally gave it to his daughter. G -

I find the use of cell phones to be very generational. My younger detectives text and text and text. Us older guys call and talk to each other. I interviewed for a promotion the other day. One question asked by the Captain in charge of the unit was "Do you know the NRS (Nevada Revised Statute) pertaining to such and such? Reply "Not off hand, I didn't think minutia was all that important." "Besides, I can look up anything I require in seconds on several electronic devices at my immediate disposal." While not the answer the goof was looking for, I made my point which was all I intended to do anyway. I come from an era when my computer was under my hat. I committed to memory that which I felt was necessary, the rest could be looked up later. I do the same now, it's just that I can look it up quicker. G
