  1. I love it! I spent the better part of a year hunting down this kit as well as a few of MPC's other 67 vettes I built when I was younger. Haven't built'em yet, but I think you've inspired me to do so! Great build!
  2. I used Tamiya primer religiously, until i got tired of paying a fortune in primer, but my LHS seems to be getting in a steady supply of the stuff. BTW.....SCREAM FOR MEEEE!!!!!!hahah
  3. Sort of ironic...i was finishing up my 41 SW&C Willys dragster no more than an hour ago, getting the PE grill in. I hadn't noticed the toothpick with CA glue sticking to my wrist until I put the body down and moved my hand over it. I tried to grab it before the inevitable happened ..the toothpick dropped off of my wrist, and landed on the roof Ah well!
  4. Finally, an OC I wont have to pay a small fortune for. I was looking through the LHS owners Revell catalog a few weeks back, they;re also coming out with a large scale Mustang if I remember correctly
  5. If you're anything like me you don't know a heck of a lot about the internal combustion engine( except the obvious dump most of your disposable income into your tank and go) but enjoy building models. There are a lot of great pics of some nice looking engines on the net but where does the other end of that wire or line go..and more importantly what is it? I borrowed a book for my mechanic uncle a few months ago, and it's just great! It's actually a text book called Auto Mechanics Fundamentals. It's easy to read and understand, and has a ton of useful diagrams. I found a few more books at the local Used book stores, Readers Digest/CAA's Complete Car Care Manual is another great source of information with diagrams. As well as Complete Guide to Auto Repair - Keep your American of Foreign Car Running Great. I'm finding these books to be invaluable sources of information on Engine components, fuel systems, electrical systems, cooling and heating systems as well as brake systems. Some of these diagrams are exploded views (especially the Chilton Auto Repair Manual 1060-1970 I found for $3.00) that would probably benefit the scratch builder in many of you. Anyway, I checked Amazon and they have 2 of the books I have on hand, used and dirt cheap. Complete Guide to Auto Repair : Keep Your American or Foreign Car Running Great Readers Digest Complete Car Care Manual The one I purchased used from Amazon is a Textbook by Martin W Stockel and Martin T Stockel called Auto Mechanics Fundamentals. I bought 2 actually. The first one was the 1995 edition, when I got it, it had changed quite a lot from my Uncles 1981 edition. More computer stuff and diagrams that seemed confusing to me. I checked every day for a few weeks, and was lucky enough to find someone selling the same 1981 edition my Uncle had lent to me. I wanted to share this with you guys, hoping some people would benefit from them as much as I have.
  6. Thanks for the info Dave, I'll look up that build on SA
  7. My buddy asked me to build a replica of his fave movie car for him. I have most of what I need, I think. Except the wheels and rims, and maybe the engine( which if i remember correctly is a 383 Magnum). I know Comp Resin sells the Crager Pro Trick Drag rims, which I have a few sets of. I don't really want to dissect those baby's though. Does anyone make the correct or close enough rim for this car? I've also been looking at a few stills from the movie. The hood scoop which I thought was the typical hemi hood scoop, doesn't quite look right to me. Is it not the Hemi scoop?
  8. You're right. There's no reason water slidfe decals cant be used on tires. What turned me off was being able to see the edges of the decal after it had dried. What I did earlier was sand them, Donn Yost style, made sure they were nice and smooth by finishing them off with 1000 grit paper, popped the decal on, added a little Micro-Set, then when it was dry added a layer of dullcoat. Doesn't look too bad! I'm gonna order a half dozen or so Slixx sheets from Model Express
  9. I was adamant that I would stay away from water slide decals on tires. My few experiences with them were less than positive. They looked like ###### on the tire. I realized after reading a few posts elsewhere here that I was doing it wrong. I tried a few MH water slides on the Mr Norms Super Charger I'm working on, and, they don't look all that bad! Maybe I'll order a few of the Slixx sheets and use those! Thanks for the input guys...always appreciated! Mike
  10. Not intending to hijack this thread, but I'm going to be building MPC's 1/20 scale Saber Vette, and would like a nice, more detailed engine. Does anyone make 1/20 scale resin engines? Mike
  11. I'm looking for Goodyear, MH, really anything that ran Funnies and Pro Stock cars in the 60's and 70's. R&M used to have these fantastic PE templates for Goodyear, Hoosier and others. I held off on buying them, now it doesn't look like they sell'em any more. Considering the legal snafu (corporations wanting their cut) it probably wasn't worth the hassle. I'll check out model empire. I found one site that says they're Available, but not in stock. I was going to order from them last night, but decided to call Graham at my LHS first. From what he told me, the company that makes the dry transfer paper is either going out of business, or discontinuing the paper, so when their stock runs out, that's it. I hope that isn't the case, those dry transfer logo's are beautiful!
  12. who do you guys by your dry transfers from? I have a few sellers bookmarked but they're sold out. Merkel Model Car Co. has'em for $47.00, hell of a deal but I just need basic white transfers, not transfers made out of gold!
  13. Looks good Matthew, doesn't seem to be much metal flake in it, if any. When I use the MM Lacquer, the flake seems to be really dense , but as mentioned earlier in the thread, the effect seems to be subdued by clear coat. I picked up a can of Hemi Orange from Canadian Tire the other day. Looks good as well .I like'em both, thanks guys!
  14. Just a heads up regarding the Paasche H airbrush. I was an exclusive Badger user until I bought Donn Yosts DVD's. I bought an H series airbrush, but when I got it found out I couldn't use the typical cover assemblies I had been using with my Badger's. The combination of the cover assemblies siphon tube angle, and the hole it sets into on the airbrush make the bottle sit at an awful angle. Point the airbrush downwards at any angle and the bottle is literally upside down. Make sure you purchase the cover assemblies made for the H series. Great airbrush though I haven't touched my badgers in a few weeks. Had I known about the Paasche earlier I'd have saved myself a few hundred dollars!
  15. LHS and Model Express, Dennis is fantastic!
  16. I replied to an earlier post that I ask 1 dumb question per day...I guess I'm good for the rest of today! I use Google to search for everything else, why I didnt think of using to search for "Plum Crazy code"... Thanks guys
  17. Does anyone know or know where I can find the color code for this? I'll be stopping by Napa tomorrow. My buddy works there and told me he'd give me a good deal on a small quantity. Dont know if I really need it since they probably have a book or chart there, I'd like to have it for him just in case.
  18. Very nice build Cliff! Beautiful paint job!
  19. I have a 100gal CH compressor with a built in regulator. It acts a little strange from time to time. Over time it will drop from 25-30 to 20-15, not very fast..but enough that I'll notice it over extended airbrushing sessions. When I use my airbrush..the needle on the regulator will drop 10 or so psi then pop back up when I release the airbrush. Those things I can live with...but for low psi, like 5-10 when I'm using Alclad Chrome, nothing comes out. Would adding a separate regulator help? I was thinking I'd crank the compressor way up, then use the separate regulator to control the airflow. Would that work?
  20. Herding cats!! lol Sorry. That was funny
  21. Thats too bad..if anything new comes in at my LHS, the owner stows a copy for me behind the counter, kits, magazines or whatever else he knows will appeal to me. If it's a week or so before I drop by again, he wont put'em on the shelf, he'll keep'em until I show up.
  22. Sure, I'd appreciate that!
  23. Really! I'll have to take a better look at the car down the street tomorrow. I could have sworn it was non-metallic Thanks guys
