  2. Very nice explanation of adjustment of perception! Kudos for thinking just outside the mainstream. I have seen Japanese kits with a ratio and not a fraction to explain scale.
  3. I just used my metric ruler. While 25mm is close to one inch - it is just that CLOSE. I measured out 108mm and then flipped the ruler around and the measurement was 4 and 1/16 inches. With the equation in my first post - the measurement is 4.32 inches which comes out to just a hair over 4 and 5/16. The resulting findings are a loss of about one quarter inch. With a small measurement - that's not much of a big deal. But when calculating wheelbases, or car width or body length the loss (or inaccuracy) can be just enough to throw the proportions off just enough to make it look not-right. But I would like to thank you for your input - I will use the 25mm equals about one inch in the future. The metric system is SO much easier to work with. I SO like to deal with whole numbers and not complex fractions. Can anyone but a machinist picture the length of 21/64 and is it longer or shorter then 9/32. Where as 23mm is shorter then 32mm. I'm working on a scale fractions table and should have it posted this week.

  5. I haven't purchased a scale ruler yet. I'm looking for advice regarding how to scale out measurement for a 1/25 scale model. Is 1/25 of a foot to .48 inch a proper conversion? For example - A 1:1 1969 Camaro's wheelbase is 108 inches - is a 1/25 1969 Camaro's wheelbase 4.32 inches?
  6. I think I read on yahoo news that she passed from a cardiac arrest. Thirty-two and a heart attack. God bless her family and friends -unexpected death of a person in the prime of life is a bitter pill to have to swallow. Very bitter.

  8. Thanks for the reference material. If I ever try to build a STOCK car - I'll be sure to use it. I like looking at a stock kit and seeing how I can "clean it up" no chrome/emblems(I know what it is) cut this and move that. suddenly stock isn't possible. But thanks for the reference!

  10. This Art is from Bo Zolland of Viztech. Some of you may have seen some of his stuff. I have done a whole bunch of searches for his art and every search reveals more incredible images.   12. I'm a member of the VWvortex but since I no longer have a Dub - I don't log on much. That Golf looks great. How much do you have in it? If you have less then $2010 - drive it down to Gainesville and enter it in the GRM Challenge. It is a GREAT event. You can always fudge the budget a little bit.

  14. I had two 1992 1.8 A2 Jettas (both white) and a Mk2 Scirocco (A/C car without a sun-roof). I have always wanted an A2 Golf four door 8V with a 272 Schrick cam and intake and exhaust mods. Maybe a mild port job - and unshroud the valves. Nice coil-overs - big ass swaybars - some 944 15x7 phone-dials in dark graphite. Body in Olive drab. Fabbed airdam. Cibie driving lamps. No fender well moldings. I like the rats!

  18. OMFG!!!!!!! That was SO cool! I gotta vote for an underdog or two. The Ford Kent crossflow four cyl. used in Mk I&II Escort rally cars and Formula Fords. The 1.6 and 1.8 liter Mazda fours placed in Miatas. Absolute joy in internal combustion. I also like a nicely cammed - VW 1.8Liter - without mufflers - at about 5500 to 7000 RPM. I am convinced it is in this combination that the hid the "fahrfurnugen generator" but had to take its edge off for the common public. A nice large displacement normally aspirated small-block chevy with 180degree headers is also music at aobut 7500rpm.
  19. I just HAVE to add my two cents into this mix and stir the pot. First of all I have to say I dislike current stock car racing. Maybe it's due to the perfect placing of the cautions to bunch up the field for what-ever reason or the fact that the cars are not stock. I tried to watch a few races a year - but I don't know the drivers and the cars make NO sense to me - The same chassis with the same body and different stickers for different engine manufacturers. In road racing we call that SPEC RACING and it is for entry level drivers. Spicing up the series by giving air time to spoiled brats having tantrums is nothing but marketing - pure and simple. Keep the emotions from in front of the camera and nobody will watch - NASCAR is all about the drama - marketing drama. It is soap opera at 180mph. NASCAR and the professional NHRA classes are irrelevent to the current auto manufacturers - except for product placement. NASCAR and PRO STOCK use carbs - for heaven's sake! How relevent is THAT?! All this being said - NASCAR is a valid sport. It gainfully employs people. It creates its own market and promotes the useage of fans to promote products and services by SELLING those fans wearables like t-shirts, jackets and hats, etc. Attendence at NASCAR events has been on the decline from even before the economy tanked. Truck races and Nationwide races have very few spectators compared to the big boys and the racing is still racing! There are RACE fans and there are NASCAR fans - there is a difference. Road racing is growing due to an infusion of marketing by auto and aftermarket manufacturers as well as the infusion of European and Japanese car culture through video games. Gran Turismo, Forza, Project Gotham, and the Need for Speed series of games has created a motorsports culture. That culture is interested in left and right cornering, brakeing and acceleration and car balance. When these kids grow up they look for the cars they drove in the video games - most of them are Japanese - Jap cars handle well with little help. Track events are popular and the infusion of dozens of new road courses in North America has fueled the need for these speed junkies to drive as many tracks as they can. Some of these tracks are at driving country clubs. These courses are ROAD COURSES - not OVALS - for a reason. Driving left and right is MORE interesting than driving in a circle. I watched a Jetta TDI cup race today. In ONE lap - I saw two outstanding late braking moves that made my hair on the back of my neck stand up. To get that reaction from a NASCAR race - someone's gotta wreck. Passing on an oval just isn't as exciting. To make NASCAR exciting for me - some changes need to be made. I wanna see a street race - tight and unforgiving. They are PROFESSIONAL drivers - they can do it and the sissies that protest - fine 'em - NASCAR is good at that. I wanna see an endurance race on a road course with headlights through the rain and at night. All this must be done with a factory tub with factory body panels with every piece of the drive-train coming from the respective makers. It is STOCK CAR RACING, right? The last thing - NASCAR is NOTHING of what it started as. It is now a homoginized, polished shadow of itself. Irrelevant automotively. The France family and Humpey Wheeler may have created the great business success that is NASCAR but in doing so - they ruined the sport. Marshal Teague would be pissed! Smokey Yunick is laughing from beyond the grave. I want to see an unfair advantage. Richard Petty had one for years. So he cheated - some call it innovation. Mark Donohoe wrote a whole book about it. A must-read for driving enthusiasts. You say that people won't watch. I say Nay-Nay. People will either watch to see how long the enchanted spell of the advantage lasts or to relish in the aftermath of the impending failure. They will watch and cheer for the underdog. They will then watch for the next innovator. Then the next. I would LOVE to watch a LeMons race! I hear they are innovative there. Real racing is done by the common man - from his garage - trying to scrape one nickle against the other and make the tires last one more weekend. Now that I have alienated myself - I'll go back under my rock.
  20. I think they look great. I would print them out on regular paper first - Cut them out and check the fitment - before you waste decal paper. Just my two cents.

I was just thinking - with a fertile imagination such as yours - what ideas are you having in your head that DON'T get to be drawn or made into 3D representation?! What I really like from your posts - they are more encouraging then intimidating - even if some of us never reach this level of scratchbuilding - you make us feel as if we can. Thank YOU.
  22. Yes I do! It is in storage and hoperfully when I get it out it will be in the same condition as the picture. everytime i lay eyes on it it makes me giggle. An Interesting thought I had the last time I looked at it - The rub strip that we sanded off the side is actually stamped into the bodywork on the real car! Can you imagine the bodywork a high-schooler would have to do to pull that body mod off?!?! The color is actually flourescent pink from a Testors paint kit. Scott mixed it with lots of thinner and shot it through my Badger 350 in our laundry room. Maybe the dampness of the laundry room kept the clear from getting shiny. The engine block and heads are pink, too! That build was a blast! I just HAVE to finish it! I'm gonna do it with the kit chassis - remember it was warped? - We didn't realize it until after we had it assembled - including lowering the suspension! The salt shaker was actually pilfered from Pizza Hut in North Highlands, CA. I'm still trying to get the salt out of that jacket! The snails never messed with me after that. Tim - the salt Ninja!
