The only late model Mustang I have is the Bullitt version 2008???, and, no, these are not the same tires as in that kit.

I like it. Nice, clean look. The color combination works well, too. Tervetuloa

So Into Building You Forgot To Stop?
Erik Smith replied to Ragnar's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yes, I have. It actually has a psychological term, coined by Mihaly Csikzentmihaly, called "flow". His book has the same title. -
This is one kit that has always intrigued me. Hasegawa makes outstanding kits and this one has an engine to boot. Yours turned out very nice and has the right "look". Great work - now I'll go check out the WIP that I never saw...

Tires from the '62 SS on the left, from the '66 wagon on the right.

why are those 60's models so rare?
Erik Smith replied to randx0's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That's no good Ed! Tremendous loss all the way around - not just in models. I wonder if any models are still flotsam somewhere? -
why are those 60's models so rare?
Erik Smith replied to randx0's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Not all 60s kits are rare. There are a few molds that have surived the test of time and progress and are still around - AMT '62 Buick Electra, '63 Galaxie, '61 Galaxie "styline", etc.... The one's that are rare are a simple case of supply and demand. -
Real or Model #186 FINISHED!
Erik Smith replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
I vote model because I want one. Not sure of it works that way or not. -
Looking cool Tom. Hey, what valve covers are you using for the SOHC? I ask mainly because I bought a Johan Maverick for the covers and I am modifying them to be accurate - I can cast a couple for you if interested. They are the best looking SOHC covers but still not perfect - which I will attempt to remedy. Also, hope your not building out in the shop tonight in this weather - I think it's close to 20 in town tonight and probably cooler in your neighborhood.

YOUR LOCAL HOBBY SHOP ECONOMY
Erik Smith replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Spokane is lucky to have three pretty decent places to buy models plus Hobby Lobby (Michael's too, but I don't count them). I'll get a picture of them on my next trip - B&B Hobbies has quite a selection - White Elephant has great prices (Revell kits, I think they said they have to get R2 from a wholesaler so no discount anymore <sad face emoticon>- and Hobbytown has Tamiya (kits too, but not as many). I know White Elephant has expanded their model sections over the last three years from almost gone at one store to a whole section. Promising. -
That is a very fine looking corvette! Nice wind screen and exhaust.

Need a New Camera
Erik Smith replied to vintagestang's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It's really amazing the quality of camera you can get for such little money! The camera Mike pointed you to is a great choice - and remember, most stores have the camera on display, so you can go and play with before you buy. Try the different settings and shoot some photos of black text on the display stand. Then you can review the image and zoom in to see how well the camera does with fine detail. As has been pointed out above - make sure you get OPTICAL zoom. Digital zoom is nothing more than in camera cropping. -
Metalizer for body?
Erik Smith replied to jonno356SC's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You definitely can. I am planning on using some of the metalizers for a future build. The only thing to watch for is the delicate nature of the MM metalizers. They will pull off of the plastic kind of easy - especially if you are going to do any masking. You could also try Alclad II if you could find the shade that would match the stainless steel MM - Alclad paints are a little less likely to pull off the plastic, but they are still a little more "fragile" than oridinary paints. When you do your build, post up some picks! -
Let's see your geegaws!

AMT's 62 Buick: Elephant Telephone Chrome car AMT 63 Galaxie, 49 Ford, 49 Mercury, all came with different things: Reel to reel and Television: chrome 32 Chubby mouse AMT 64 Falcon tool kit Jo-Han 59 rambler has suitcases, surf boards, and a cooler -
It is really similar to early Nissans and Austins - mainly because Nissan worked with Austin in the 50s - but I don't know if Suzuki did as well. Looks like they did or just used the same design.
-
Hey! It's just like the kit then - no side mirrors! Still coming along nicely! That side spear/sword handle thing/vent/bulge spot is the tough spot for foiling - looks like you got it.

Who offers the best mail-order models?
Erik Smith replied to Joe Nunes's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have ordered from Model Express, Model Round Up, Mega Hobby, EHobbies, HLJ, Hobby Search, Jiminohio, (others I can't remember) and never had a problem with any. In fact, they have all been outstanding. Model Express is my go to, though, because of pricing and he is pretty close to me do shipping is cheaper and faster.- 26 replies

Very cool. The weathering is well done - not too much, not too little. Fujimmy's engine looks great in there too.

MicroMarks photo etch kit

Thanks for diggIng this post back up guys. And thanks for posting some of your work ChiefJoseph whose real name I can't see because I'm on my phone. Great looking PE. -
You can also carve small parts out of leftover styrene sprues. I save all the Clear and clear red ones just for that purpose.
-
I think a picture(s) would pretty much mean a flood of "oh, I can take that 62 Galaxie off of your hands for, say, $30" type of posts and PMs. Like I said above, if the OP wants to know what each and every kit is worth, you can search completed listings on eBay. None of us has more insight than the actual market. It would be helpful and time saving to quickly rule out common kits though - and just look up kits that are truly worth spending time on researching. Also, as far as grouping kits for sale - if you want the maximum profit per kit, don't group collectible kits. It's okay to throw a few common, similar kits into a lot, but I have found through selling and buying that group sales are not greater than the some of their parts. Finally, this is going to be a time consuming, large task that will take you longer and be more work than you think if you are going to sell kit by kit. I have purchased lots of up to 700 airplane kits and checking each kit, photographing (good photos are a MUST!), listing, shipping, dealing with complaints, etc. takes a long time. It was fun for me as I enjoy just looking at old models, but after awhile, I was like "oh gosh, open box, take pictures of kit, list, repeat" x 700...
-
^^second above - you can try to get a clear piece of styrene to fit. I have two of these done and I think the kit windshield was a little tricky to get set correct anyway - seems the drivers side upper corner didn't want to stay high enough to hide the bend in glass (where it curves into the roof). Looking good though!

Whats your poison?
Erik Smith replied to mp_101airborne's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Unfortunately, my brain is constantly brewing ideas, much faster than I can ever build anything. I mainly look at car magazines, but I have also been tempted by cars in movies/TV shows. -
Okay, I like it. Cool build and nice inspiration. I like the stupid little robot thing too. Why is the car all smokey at the beginning of the video? Is there an exaust leak in the cab? The occupants better be careful not to get too hot in that box.
