Revell 1969 Dodge Dart GTS in code F8 Dark Green Metallic a
mrmike replied to tim boyd's topic in Model Cars
Exceellent build, Tim Boyd! Just so you know, I built a '69 Dart GTS with a 340 CID engine and auto transmission and the "recall mags" 3 years ago. -
I have resigned myself to using Tamiya spray cans for the future and they do have some really nice colors. If I need a specific color for a build, I guess I will have to go to the internet for my paint. With all the changes happening in the modeling world and in life in general, I am having a tough time keeping up with all the changes.

Thanks Michael and Stephen! Michael, like any kit that I have built over the years, this one has issues like any other. Even the excellent Tamiya kits have a few small issues, but not like Revell or AMT/MPC kits. I have noticed that new Revell of Germany kits are getting better with their mold technology, but reissues do leave out the mention of some parts and decals. We as modelers can swap parts and pieces and allow them to fit or we can make them fit.

Thanks Carl! This build has been on the back burner for some time and a Build-Off on another forum presented an oppotunity to build this Charger.

Thanks Carl, Bob and David! David, did you know that Rustoleum bought Testors? IMHO, Rustoleum does not know the scale model community and they bought Testors just for their client base. That is possibly why they are doing away with Testors Lacquers and others. Testors lousy cans leak and I had a brand new can of paint leak and empty itself of all propellant and the can was just over a year old and still sealed. Then they take the enamel spray paints and take out some of the pigment and offer it for sale to the modeling public. Then they push Rustoleum to the public and offer the same lousy cans in a larger size with the same lousy paint. Now I can understand why Testors products remain on the shelf at the hobby shop and not be sold!

Another coat of Model Master Green Go and this can is done! So much orange peel that I think was from the lack of pressure inside the can and I even warmed the can up! These old cans from Testors/Model Master are lousy!!! More Plymouth to come...

Thanks Bob! I use the Gelly Roll pens to create my own whitewalls or to touchup a missing line somewhere. I'm debating with myself on what I should use.
-
Thanks Bob! I got the tires assembled, but the whitewalls don't go all the way to the inner edge of the tire by the wheel. I may have to paint this with some flat white or use my white Gelly Roll pen as I had used on the front tires. I fired up the paintbooth and I painted the engine and the dash panel with Tamiya TS-23 Light Blue. More Model A to come...

The Story Det. Steven Darvell returns to Boston Police Headquarters. He waddles into the Homicide Squad Room and he clears his small desk of the empty coffee cups, candy wrappers, and a rotting bologna sandwich that he never finished eating, which is unusual in itself now that it sat on his desk for two days. He takes his trash can to empty it and when he returns; he sits down and opens a bag of donuts he picked up on the way in. The donut he pulls out is covered with a lot of powdered sugar and he takes bite out of it and the sugar falls all over the computer keyboard that he was trying to type on. Adam is watching him from his office and only shakes his head knowing that McNally is correct about Darvell, a waddling, talking slob. He finds the mouse to his computer and finds an empty report to fill out. His best and fastest typing is the old hunt and peck method. This is going to take a while. The Build The chassis is mostly assembled. I just need to add the exhaust system and then do some touchups. McNally will return...

Thanks John, Bob, Stephen, Carl and Bob! This color is close to the box art and I had just fallen in love with it! And, this is one of my better paint jobs!
-
Thanks for the offer David! You are correct that there is the internet as well and I do use it quite often, especially since my laptop is on the workbench next to my projects.

I painted the body, wheels, side panels and frame for the '30 Model A with Tamiya TS-23 Light Blue. Looks great! More Model A to come...
-
Thanks Stephen! They tried to bring back Hunter a couple of times since the original series went off the air. My guess is that people have moved on from there.
-
Thanks Chris, Rodney, Stephen and Tom! The '30 Model A has been washed and is drying. The engine is partially assembled and awaiting primer and paint. I added the decals to the tires and with a little setting solution, they came out perfectly! More Model A to come...

The Story McNally arrives at the Comet Diner, a dining establishment built into an old trolley car that serve breakfast, lunch and dinner all day and he takes a booth up front by the windows. A short while later, Attorney Charlotte Rothmann aka Charlie arrives and she sits across from McNally and asks, "What's good?" Charlie always asks that question when she joins the Boston PI for breakfast. He asks her if she gave out an of his business cards lately and she says yes, to a Shawn Whittaker who was to ask him to investigate a traffic accident. McNally replies that Shawn was murdered the night before. The Build I washed the Charger this afternoon in prep for primer and paint. McNally will return...

It has been almost two weeks since I last worked on this Roadrunner. I decided to give it another bath this time in prep for paint. The Chassis and the interior have been finished and are ready for assembly. More Plymouth to come...

You are welcome, Bob!

That is basically the same kit as the one I am building now. Some changes have been made to that kit from what I am told.
-
The body is two pieces, a top and the lower body. Older kits? Which older kits? You will have to be more specific. I usually build muscle cars and pickup trucks and a model of something this old is new territory for me and I have only a couple of those models on the shelf.
-
This kit is very popular! I just finished assembling the basic engine in preparation for paint and I drilled holes in the cylindar heads for plug wires. Now, a member of my Model Club wants to have a Club Challenge for our next show in October 2022 with this model kit. Club Challenge usually involves building box stock and I've already drilled mine for plug wires! I may have to get another kit or change the rules for the Club Challenge.
-
Thanks John! I have been playing around with this kit and I started to assemble the engine and the instructions say to assemble the body and then insert the seat into the upper body top. It doesn't fit! You have to insert the seat before assembling the upper body top!

Saturday mid-afternoon, I decided to take a trip down to Hobby Emporium, my local hobby shop. I looked around and spotted the re-issued Revell '30 Model A sitting on the shelf. I just had to get it and with four kits on the shelf, this kit came home with me. The box art really grabbed me and the light blue '30 Model A was the car I had to build! Once I got home, I opened the kit and was amazed at the beautiful molding of the kit and I had to rummage through the paint can drawers for a can of light blue. Tamiya TS-23 Light Blue is a close match to this box art and the last time I used this paint was on the Revell Ford Bronco a few years ago. I was told that the entire run of Revell '30 Model A kits at Hobby Emporium was sold out by 5:00 PM which makes this a popular kit!
