  1. As my late mother used to say, "Better a late Batzilla than no Zilla at all." Or words to that affect. Thanx for putting up with my computer issues, ergo, the delay. I was trying to print a bat graphic and all of my printer related programs locked up. I thwarted the issue by downloading it to PhotoBucket and printed it from the net. Stupid computer, try to outsmart that, Watson !! Now that I'm done extolling the benefits of having opposable thumbs, on to the update. Made a two element Top Fuel style Bat Wing and a mounting box for the chute, lights and wing. Need to make wing braces and do paint. Chute is prepped with holes for chute line and release wire. That'll get hooked up to a handle on the inside of the body, er, coffin. Final prep for fuel line wiring is done with the headers and plug boots set up in pipe organ fashion. I still need to touch up the heat effects on the headers, but I have to blend with a brush and thin and blend and ............. I see an airbrush in my very near future.
  2. Patience my good Doctor. Like all surgeries, this can't be rushed. They reward will be the wing in about 3 hours.
  3. Hi Robert. Welcome to the board. This is the AMT Drag-u-la, from the Munsters. It's packed with the Munster Koach in a tin collector's box. Feel free to Google it or PM me for more info. Update coming later today. Working on headers, valve covers, and I'm making the Top Fuel wing (sorta, kinda, in a way), and a box that will be a combo parachute / tail light / wing brace mount. Film at 11 (if you're in a place where there's 6 hours difference from 5 PST). BTW. the Jungle Jim Charger took 2nd place. No trophy or ribbon or plaque, but I do get $10.00 off when I buy my JJ reissue Vega.
  4. Corrected for political correctness. It was not my intention to insult every model builder in the world.
  5. Thank You Ed. Building models and causing stitches in people's sides is what I luv 2 do. Guess that means I've got 2 hobbies.
  6. Darn Tootin' Doc. Wait 'til you see how much fun I'm having now. On Details. That STAND-OUT, and stuff. Let's start with the candles in the headlights. I think I'm gonna' need Lasik after those. The tail lights are also done. I decided to go with some pipe organ type spark plug boots. They'll sit a little lower when installed permanent like. The headlights sucked up most of my build time today, and tomorrow I'm going to a local HobbyTown contest so kick back, relax and I'll let ya' know how the Jungle Jim car fairs. (WAAAAAAA, only one entry per person, WAAAAAAAA !!)
  7. Even if you mounted a tail light on the carburetor it would look terrific. Wait, does that mean when you hit the gas, the brakes would apply?
  8. Top 5 Reasons I Go To Model Car Shows: 1 - 1st Place Trophy 2 - Best Paint Trophy 3 - Best Interior Trophy 4 - Best Engine Trophy 5 - Best of Show Trophy Now that I'm done dreaming the impossible dream, let's go with this: 1 - Hours of packing and unpacking and packing and unpacking. 2 - Hours of driving sucking up megabucks worth of gas. 3 - Repair priceless works of art that didn't fair the trip so well. 4 - Hours of standing around doing nothing while waiting for judges to stop arguing over "one headlight is 2 / 738th's higher than the other." 5 - Listening to all of the people who didn't place explain why all of the cars that did place, shouldn't have. And now, for my real top 5: 1 - Ego 2 - Ego 3 - Ego 4 - Ego 5 - To be a part of the world's greatest hobby and share my experience with all of the people who care to listen. Hope to see a bunch of you at the Desert Classic in Victorville.
  9. Then it's a good thing I've also got this going on: http://www.modelcars...showtopic=48617 Sorry John. I know it's frustrating. CH CH CH CH CHANGES..............
  10. Mostly detail work for today. Distributor wired, rear rotors and calipers, fuel blocks (zero tolerence on back block between engine and firewall), brake light bar (will get 4 bejeweled gems for brake lights), and what the heck is that doo-dad that's labeled "Fuel Line Jig" ?? Could it be something that would allow the user to easily make metal fuel lines for not only an injector, but for a super charging air compressing huffer blower box unit also ?? (Yes, the one for the blower will fit an intake manifold too. Same width for our purposes.) Again a shining example of Yankee Eyeball Engineering. Needs a little tweaking, but it should be a working deal. Please hold your applause until after the pics. Thank you. And now, for the pics.........
  11. Ya' know what ?? I'm gonna apologize upfront here, but Chuck gave me an opening that I can't resist: Now we've just got to talk Rom into finishing one !! BAZINGA !! SNAAAAAP !! ZINGER !! My bad. I'm done now. Hi Rom Seriously yes Rom. Build a Rat Rod John, I love the carpet, I love the Pancho, I love the whole thing.
  12. Thanx Mike. It did it for me when I went to modify the first post in the topic. Might not let you do it on any other than the first. Now if I can get these tags worked out, I'll be groovin'.
  13. Can someone help out a computer illiterate with instructions on how to change a forum Topic title and how to manage tags? I've seen Topic titles go from "Fred's Chevy" to "Fred's Chevy - Updated XX/XX/2011". How is that done? Also, the first time I made a group of tags, they all displayed at the same time and I don't know how to put up the ones I want when I want them. Thanx in advance to whoever chimes in.
  14. LOL Here I go again. The Hemi Under Glass is being put aside to be completed after the Dragula and the Bride of Deora. I have made the final decision on the car to go with the hauler. First of all, thank you everyone for : A-Putting up with my silliness and changes and the delays it has caused and; B-All of those who have given their opinions and made their suggestions as to what would look best on here. Especially those who have PM'd me with their ideas. Even though I may not have used those suggestions, they did lead to my deciding how to go. Overall, I've been dying to do a Charlie Allen Dart and I've wanted to get current projects out of the way before tackling it. The HECK with that !! There's no time like the present. I know that John T and Shane and others have done the Dart and I don't expect to hit those levels of detail, but it will have my own unique build style. At any rate, the body and decals have been ordered from Competition Resins, so as soon as the Dragula is finished (3 to 4 days), I'm back on this full time. Deal ?? Great !! See ya back here, same Bat-Time, Same Bat-Forum.
  15. Nuttin' much to get excited about today. Yesterday was a whirlwind of progress. What did I get done today ?? The fuel pump.
  16. You ain't done being flattered yet. What a concept, what execution, what a stance, what would it look like with a Grader Blade under there ?? Very Excellent Good, sir.
  17. Great start to a great subject Tyrone. I'm keeping my eyes glued to this.
  18. Only because he won the first race I went to at Irwindale, I have always loved the Charlie Allen Dart. Bought one as a kid for $2.50 at the T G & Y (five and dime). I spent my allowance and my mom wouldn't give me an advance, so at the age of 15 I got a job at a tire shop. I bought that model with my first paycheck and did a pretty good job on it for someone with minimal experience. It died in a California earthquake that same year. Second favorite would be to build a diorama of a true life occurence. I was taking a picture of the Wynn's 777 Cougar as it sat in the staging area at Irwindale. I paid no attention to the car in front of it until it lit up the tires on it's way to the strip. I was pelted with rubber shavings and stank of burning rubber and nitro. (Can I get a Tim Allen, "O O O O O !!) The car and driver that performed that questionable staging lane burnout ? Don Schumacher in the Stardust 'Cuda.
  19. Mine is a matter of focus, but not like you might think. I can focus on building for hours at a time..........and then I start to question the build or I get an off the wall idea or I see something shiny or the Forum distracts me or I'll sit down to type something and I completely lose track of .... what....I was....um.... But yes, I think there should be more heels with Achilles attached to them. Does that answer your question Doc ??
  20. As usual, here's me running behind. I gotta stop building so much and pay more attention to the forums. Dr. Virgil, you went outside the box, around the box, thru the box and then proved there is no box. The fuel feed tube to the charger lines is awesome. Great touch to a great build.
  21. This is a major update due to me doing nothing today. Except work on this model. But first: John, Rob, Chris, Brad, keep feeding me praise candy. I eat it up and it's the fuel that these models run on when they're in competition. Thanx Guys. Started the session by covering the body in purple prior to the gold. I then wired the distributor and drilled out the valve covers and made fuel blocks for the injectors and blower. I am also making what I hope will be a reusable jig for metal fuel lines for both. Pictured is the start of the injector line jig. The one for the blower will, of course, be wider. I made (non- operable) butterflies for the blower hat. Lastly, engine wise, I drilled out the headers. Now, on to the interior. Here's where I went NUTZ !! I had a blast doing this and I hope it shows. Started off by making a steering column support and mounted the gauges to that with some wiring. Detailed the gas pedal, shifter knob, hand brake and steering wheel. Using clear blue, I made the shifter knob look like a blue and chrome marble. Looks terrific in real life. The steering wheel and hand brake handle got the wood treatment. Again, looks better in real life and needs some dry brushing to knock down the dark streaks. Where the heck am I gonna find somebody to do that? What? Well, I suppose I could, but I'm kinda' busy here.......... Anyway, the seat got touched up prior to install. I shot the seat purple, then scraped away the white tuck and roll. All 45 of them........by hand.........one at a time........some twice.........and then they still needed touch up. Blower and scoop are just on for looks at this point. Lots of hoses and linkage to do. PE is tiny, huh ?? Wonder what surprises tomorrow will bring ??
  22. It's a sheer joy to be working on 2 builds at the same time. I wouldn't normally lie to you nice people like that, but it's the easy way out. Okay, mostly little stuff, tests, adjustments, things of that nature. Drilled out the fuel line holes in the blower and injector. Mounted up some interior accessories. Just to give you an idea of how close the engine fit is, I can't install the valve covers and wire it until the engine is in place permanently. I had to shave the heads to squeeze in between the body sides.
