OK Cranky here is your more more more! So I primered it to see my bad spots and also to get more ideas... I worked on it more and actually got my engine installed and also a TON of mock ideas that finally ended up in the fabrication of the front axle assembly. I also made the interior with seats for the navigator, driver, cannon operator, machine guns, and tail gunner. Fuel cell is in with protection. I decided to rip out my mock armor as I was not happy with it. It has to sit for a bit due to the stress of the front end so more to follow... Enjoy!

Very nice quick built. What kit did the 71 come from? Thats my favorite number and I like the way its styled and would like to make my own maybe on a Truck series.

Lookin good so far and it's a cool build, looks fun

Hey Jason, my buddy Mudpit (Toby) bought it for me for x-mas about 2 years ago. Its yellow on the box. Matt yeah this is lacking details and I think the best detail of this body I've found so far is the Mad Mudder truck I'm using for my scratch built Suburban ( In post apocalypse build). This hot rod truck I'm going to do a lot of my own detail work with different wheels and decals from a newer Chevy truck.

Beautiful job on a great piece of motorsports history. 2 things you don't see anymore... Pontiac and also GM Goodwrench sponsoring racing. Nicely done

Nice looking Elk you do not see a lot of this kind with it not being a SS. Makes me want to fix mine. Nice color combo too

Hi there, I was building my Post Apac. build and had 2 tanks. I left this one alone but I was wondering if anyone knows the age of this kit? There is no easy copyright and the instructions are getting a little aged but not really frail. Its a kit by Heller 1/35 scale and says AMX 13 DCA Let me know if you know anything. It's complete with only the troops put together so I'm interested in trades but I'll put that in the right catagory later. Thanks.

Railfreak78 replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
I thought real but all you but a tiny few went model and for some reason this seems like 1:18 all over it.... Heck I'm normally wrong though but I go model. -

Ok here is today's progress after figuring out PhotoBucket woohooo!!!! So lots more body work was done and I'm soon to hit primer stage so I started some weapons that I wan to primer also. The body is not perfect and I had to tell myself this is for post apac build not a show truck so I want it imperfect. Today I added a hatch and the beginning of window armor as well as protective roof mount windows for the tail gunner and a navigator up front. The passenger side windshield will be all armor as well. Enjoy!

This is a photobucket test since I'm having pic problems.... This truck is not for the tank.

<~~~~~~~In awe of your work and some of your friends. I don't know if I should strive to get to your level or throw my kits in the recycle bin half the time. Wow I'm impressed
-
Hey bud sorry I moved and forgot about those pics I said I'd get for you so I hope they may help....
-
Here is some body progress. I wanted it done today to hit it primer but oh well. Got to dig through a lot of parts to use on this and come up with ideas and I also made up my mind on the front tires as well as the axle for the front. Mind you I have never kit bashed a body before in my life and thats all I have is the truck bodies and tank. This truck will be all misc parts from the junkyard so here we go, I filled in the back wheel wells and I'm in too deep like Cranky.. all or nothin...
-
Slow progress my rear Cranky I can't catch up but I am certainly trying So it was a bit humid today and my bodywork did not go as fast as planned but pics to come...

Hey Marty I have (3) double tube bumpers from old Toyota 4x4 kits ( I'm guessing Lindburg from size of truck ) If you think they may fit and its the style I can swing them by. 2 are painted so you'd have to strip them and one is molded almost mint green. These Toyota kits were as big as most other brand full size so its almost T-100 but I think the model was about 91 to 95 SR5
-
LOL ah Marty your a good sport. We should do more build sessions that was fun.
-
Ok so I just went and saw this one today with my own 2 eyes and boy oh boy does this guy have you all duped. It's all photo shopped and its a really bad glue bomb Naw I'm playing this truck is really really cool and looks great Marty!!!! I'm actually jealous of this one . An old high school buddy of mine and Mudpit had a green one of these he painted white and his dad had a 2 tone blue and white like this. He would kill for this I bet Keep up the good work bud

Was that the Nova with the fenders you have to attach? If so wow you lined them a lot better than most go together. Nice paint choice too
-
Nice start to a cool project I would maybe scale down that hood too myself but the angles look right for scratch. I can't wait to see this beast come to life

Great updates Cranky. Thanks for advice on weathering to as I want to do a beater later on. I strayed from mine for a day as I attended a build session and started my "professional job theme" kit for my club. I did start sanding bondo though I can't let this sit. Like you said this build is too fun! I plan on having the body work about wrapped up tomorrow and I will get pre primer pics up. Take care guys!

The official race season kick off
Railfreak78 replied to CAL's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
What a race so far!! TRG had some minor mis-haps but they all came back. Toward the end of coverage Andy Lally ( my fav ) had some sort of issues I hope they fix it. My fav up and comer from the missing Penske DP is now on TRG GT teams so once again I'm happy. Last Holy cow that #57 Camaro is beautiful in race trim. I finally found a new camaro worth modeling. Good luck to all your favorite teams and driver fellow motorsport fans! -
So wow since this build off is bringing some really and I mean really cool ideas and creativity I kinda changed my idea. Its still going to be my first Suburban kitbash but I'm going to put an old war flare to it and make it a Half Track style truck. I started with 3 truck kits and a Tamiya Tank and here is my 24 hour progress from the 3 trucks (including dunk tank time). Comments welcome as always
-
Wow this is really looking good! I love the color choice and detail and the weathering is spot on. Oh beautiful Victory ( I want the 8-ball). Sure beats my Yamaha Maxim 650

These are cool cars but I don't have one or the funds to get one I like that RX-7. Pete that work of yours is truely amazing I'm glad to see your hand in one picture to prove its a model, wow.
