  1. Thanks Randy, Chris, Darrin, and Steve! Steve, that LS in there is the one out of the Revell Chevy SSR kit. Not sure if I'm using that one yet or not. As far as the transfer case goes, I'd like to use an aftermarket Atlas, but there are none (any longer) in resin, and I don't want to get bogged down with scratchbuilding one (please step up aftermarket!), so I'll probably use the venerable NP205 from the old R-M 1/24 Chevy pickup/Blazer kits.
  2. Revell has the better bus, but wouldn't mind the Moon decals
  3. The AMT 1950 pickup street machine has a three slot version that's somewhat close, I've got those you can have if all else fails...
  4. Thanks everyone! Rodney, once I finish the chassis/powertrain, I'll flip it for a few pics... Roger, the rims are old MPC 70s Dodge pickup 8-lugs, with the front too-long-as molded hubs shortened more to scale. Rears are as molded. Supposedly these wheels are repopped by RMR, although Ron's catalog doesn't reflect that. Next time I see him at a show, I'll ask.
  5. Here's a quickie build of Revell's '64 Chevy pickup...I'm so tired of burying myself in scratchbuilding & kitbashing, then putting builds aside due to burnout. Soooo, I put a deadline on myself to get one done! I've got three weeks into this one so far (averaging about 7-8 hours a week), giving myself two more weeks to finish it. No mods to body, just the usual hood & grille surround assembly/fit issues associated with this kit. Cut off the stock chassis' suspension mounting points to accept scratchbuilt leaf springs/hangers out back, and scratched/modified kit pieces for the front coil-sprung mounted Mercedes Unimog axles. Tires are dullcoated SoReal IROKS, mounted on modified old MPC Dodge pickup 8-lug steelies. All chrome was stripped and painted with Krylon semi-flat black enamel. Body/rims are covered in Tamiya TS-2 military dark green. Scratched bed cover painted with Rustoleum texured black.
  6. Neat build!!!
  7. Saw this baby in person today...WOW!!! This is gonna be a big seller!
  8. Thanks for posting those pics Tom! Was a great show, very nice builds, some awesome bargains in the vendor area. Didn't get to meet everyone from here, hopefully next time. Did meet Sully (Dave)...what a great guy! Missed meeting you Tom, Nate, and Wheelman (Mike)...long trip, huh Mike? Also got to see MCRC's (jeffb) new resin Hudson body...WOW!!! Good stuff there!
  9. Or the Hudson grille on the Ford
  10. Very nice Steve!!!
  11. Attend a model show...seeing others builds "in the flesh" so to speak helps to get your own projects going...
  12. Monty, try gluing your styrene in with gap-filling CA...won't "melt" the styrene, help fill the gaps, and give you a great base on which to do your final bodywork/filler.
  13. That downsizing must have been a national chain thing...my local HL just reduced it's kit isle from both sides to just one At least the amount of car kits didn't decrease much, but we do have a 1:1 GM plant just 30 minutes away, that keeps automotive interests high around here
  14. Welcome the the best place for automotive modeling David!!! That crewcab looks great! Please tell us more about the transfer case and front differential and axles
  15. Another GREAT build John! Someone should really show you how to paint though That black looks SMOOTHER than glass!
  16. Thanks so much for taking the time to do that Slant! That really helps show the difference between the two, now to look at the 1:1
  17. Great job!!! I've loved these cars since high school...picked up this kit finally this past spring
  18. Reason I'm asking is a friend's uncle still has his '64 Dodge that he bought NEW! My friend built a Lindberg kit, but was unhappy with the way the paint (testors red enamel spray) turned out, so it's in my purple pond now We just thought if the Johan kit captured the shape better, it could always be bashed with the Lindy for the better detailed components. I'll ask him for pics of the 1:1 to see exactly what it is he's trying to replicate...
  19. Thanks Dave! Do you know which is better? I know which one is cheaper
  20. Sorry if this has been asked in the past, but I couldn't find anything Thanks in advance!
  21. Thanks for the info on this show Dave! As of now, I don't see any reason I can't be there! Hope to see you gents then!
