van builds finished or wip
W-409 replied to modelguy45's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
My only Van build. It is built from Revell kit, with only minor modifications. More details can be found Here. -
This is incredible build. The paint job is so shiny and smooth, that it looks like glass. Also the detailing is amazing. It could very well be in Real Or Model, and that one would be very hard to say which one it is. Great work.
-
That is very cool! These are nice cars, and I'd like to have one on my shelf too. You did great work with the paint and detail on this one. Great - and unique build!
-
Very nice build, I really like it. Nice paint work and great details all over, it sure looks like Real Deal in the photos. All that black wash, BMF etc has turned out excellent. Nice work.

What are your pre-build planning methods?
W-409 replied to Jeremy Jon's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well it depends a bit. When the idea pops up into my mind, if it is some kind of Drag Car (Usually Stock Eliminator), then it can be built pretty much box stock parts with only a few additions, so I don't need to start the build with finding parts. Then I move to search reference pictures, especially if it is Ford, Mopar, AMC or so. I know Chevy engine details much better, it needs only a little Google Search - if any. Then I move to NHRA and see what class the car I'm building falls under. Then I start building, and during the build process I'm finding also the parts I need. But it's easy to build these Stockers, because reference material is found in the Garage. If the Model I'm building is a Custom for example, or Hot Rod or any other that can be built without rules, I start by searching the parts I need and looking inspiration pictures from Google or from books and Hot Rod Magazines. Then I start building, and of course I will look pictures for reference, too. -
Does anyone have pictures of their '59 Chevrolet Pickup Cab. Plated or Unplated version, doesn't matter. I know the Quality is Top Notch but the grille area is the thing I'm not sure about. http://www.modelhaus.com/index.php?c=4064&p=63654 I want to build a replica of this Finnish Chevy Truck and that Pickup cab is the best basis for that project that I have found. The real one has Blown 572 Chevy Big Block that puts out about 1000 HP. http://kuvia.1g.fi/kuvat/Tapahtumat+2011/Cruisings/Vantaa/20.5/MOP_8834.jpg

The subject couldn't be much better than this. And very nicely built Chevy too, so you know I really like this one. Nice work with the paint and detail on this one. Where did you get the decals?
-
It ended up really nicely. Here is the Under Glass post. I'm still amazed by your painted on pinstripes. They are so clean and so straight in all ways. Nice work.

Much enthusiasm, but no painting experience!

Yep, that's the Stocker that I'm driving. Very nice body style I think, but heavy as a tank. Great story of the GTO, that sounds like it was really nice car, and what you said about those shops that make wallets empty, yes that sounds familiar. Racers Place sells all kinds of High Performance and Race parts, and they order anything that a person needs. Man we have spent lots of Euros in that shop. Looking forward for your replica build. Kiitos ja Tervetuloa (Thanks and Welcome). -
Chevy 2 Altered Wheelbase Funny Car
W-409 replied to nitro norman's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Thanks for more pics and info, Very sharp looking build! My experiences from that kit are not so great, but looks like that with little more effort this can be made very nice looking AWB car. Great work! -

It looks very good to me, but before I can say more, we need more pictures and info, please. EDIT: Whoops I saw the other thread after posting this one. This reply can be deleted, I can't figure out how to do that. -
Hey Jeff, and welcome to the Forum! This is great place where you'll find lots of good tips and tricks as well as very talented builders...Especially in the Drag Racing Models section. That sounds wicked, after seeing Fast Freddy a couple of times racing here in Finland, I can say that he is a great showman who always does huge burnouts and then he reverses back very fast. I might have some pics of that car that might help you. I will see what I can come up with. But for the inspiration, here's my video from 2012... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SdWI6Y1L1kc

Thanks Bill! Me too, these '50s Stock Cars, as well as '60s and why not Early '70s Stock Cars too, are really nice. Much nicer than those new ones, even if there is nothing wrong with them either. Thanks Chris! Yep I saw that Scale Auto article, and it was great. I might build another Stock Car also from the '56 kit, so then I'd have '55 and '56 Stock Cars on my shelf also. But first I need to get this one done.

Showboat Redux / Quarter Master...Update 11/23/13
W-409 replied to Nitrozilla's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
This is going to be another very interesting build from your bench. The Chrysler you finished is excellent, and I bet this will be as high quality as that one. I can't wait to see more. -
That turned out very cool! Really nice work with all of that detail and detail-painting. Red and Gold fit very well together and here everything looks spot on. Nice work.
-
Woo Hoo, another Cool 'n' Creative build from Ira's bench! The Camaro and '57 Chevy fit together surprisingly well, and I bet this will be another winner when finished. Great work again!
-
I messed up the MultiQuote and two first Quotes disappeared. But Thanks Ira and Dennis too, I appreciate the kind words! Umm I guess so. You're right and Rods & Customs have always been really fun to build, so I decided to build one. But I need to get at least another one of these, since those Oldsmobiles were really popular in Junior Stock Races... Thanks Carl! Gotta admit, that the engine did turn out pretty good, the quality of it is so nice that basically it can't be built so that it looks bad. And I think the plug wires and carburetors turned out pretty good too.

Welcome to the Forum! This sure is great place to get tips and tricks. And there are lots of talented builders, especially in the Drag Racing Models section, which is my favorite section of whole forum. Nice to see more Drag Racing Fans in here (I drive Stock Eliminator here in Finland). -
Nice work, as always. These '68 Coronets are really nice, and I'm glad to see one as a Model Car also. Excellent color choice and paint job, clean BMF work and overall really nice build. Those Body Colored Steelies with Dog Dishes really give the finishing touch for this one.
-
Thanks Andre and James! The Photo Etch parts are made by Detail Master. There are parts for more than one carburetor linkages, so I think it's pretty good set. It's also available in brass color and then the standard silver.

Here is a little update. I made the little "Groove" or what that is called to the frame to get rear axle fit properly. I also painted the axle and test fitted it with painted wheels and assembled tires. The Rear Springs need to be cut shorter yet, but that should be no problem. For the front, I needed to cut the spindles to pieces and put together to get the front end lower. Now it fits just like I want so I can move on to the paint shop. I also test fitted the Engine on frame, and it fits perfectly.

1/16 Scale Army Vega Funny Car - Finished 10/14/2018
W-409 replied to Mooneyzs's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
I will be having the same Photobucket problem very soon, but my Bandwidth And Storage are both almost full. I'm not too crazy about upgrading my account, but maybe that's the only way. Dang. Luckily I was able to check these latest updates before this happened, incredible work again, as always! The engine is looking good already and with some more work, I bet it will be perfectly done when installed between those frame rails. Nice and clean Hobby Room, too. I think it's better not to show my own mess... -
This turned out very nice, I think the Register Plate says it all. Nice work with the conversion and the idea is really good too. And when the build is executed as nicely as this, I really like it.
