Charles Carpenters 1955 Chevy Pro Mod......FINISHED...06/09/13
W-409 replied to tyrone's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Wow, this turned out fantastic! Everything is so nicely executed on this one, that I don't know what should I say about it. Really nice build with incredible detailing is only thing that comes to my mind...WOW! -
This is going to be really cool build! I like how the body looks on that frame, and that Gremlin is pretty cool also. Maybe moving the engine a bit backwards would make it look even better? But then again, it's not bad like that either.

1/16 Scale Army Vega Funny Car - Finished 10/14/2018
W-409 replied to Mooneyzs's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Wow, your work really shows! The chassis could be real in natural environment, it sure looks real in those pics too! The combination of painted frame and completed rear axle is stunning...WOW is not enough to tell how nice it looks, but that's all that comes to my mind. Great work, as always. -
Revell 1990 Mustang LX with increased headroom.
W-409 replied to Maindrian Pace's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Instead of complaining for ten pages in the Car Kit Reviews - section, you decided to do what was needed to get the body right! And that's something I really like. You did great work with the modification also, and it sure looks better, even if I didn't see what was wrong with the original kit body. But now I see that yours look much better. Great job, I'll be following this one for sure. -
But that is the problem. They don't tell that what the intake manifold/carburetor setup is on the lower HP models. I don't want to install Long Ram Intake on my Phoenix. I found that same text too before, but it didn't help enough.

I'm starting to build a '61 Dodge Phoenix Stocker, but I need info on the 413 engine. There are different HP versions of that engine, and I can see that the 375 HP engine comes with Long Ram intake manifold. That is something I don't want to use on my build. So what kind of intake manifold comes with the 350HP version, or other lower HP versions of that engine? I've spent over one hour on different pages, forums and Google, but I have found no help. I hope some Mopar experts on here can help the Chevy Guy out of this problem.

You mean the door lines / panel lines between the door and rest of the body? If so, I was in the same trouble while ago, when a friend of mine showed me Tamiya's Panel Line Accent colors. They are great with a sharp brush on the Bottle Top. Just dip it in the liquid and touch the panel line, it will make nice and smooth black washes for them. It is also available in different colors, but black has worked me very nicely.

It's Marko Piironen who is casting these, but haven't seen them yet on public sale. I saw that Modelhaus does offer the same set in resin too, but he decided to cast own kit because he needs a few of these for a Junkyard diorama or something and it is also good way to learn resin casting. Looks like those Promo Models are not that expensive either, that might be a good basis for a project too. But for me, this is great place to learn using Alclad for chrome. Looks like '64 Dodge 330 chassis fits with only a little fine tuning.

Thanks Clyde, it means a lot! Okay next up was the bodywork. Looking on the decal sheet, I noticed Chrysler textes and pair of 300 Emblems there, so I decided to sand these letterings away from the body, to get the decals fit on those places better. I used some putty to smooth those places out. But the real pain was to get rid of the Mold Lines. Especially those what go on the side of that roof, were really hard to hide. A few times of putty didn't work, but luckily I managed to smooth them out with some bondo that's used on car bodies. Then I sprayed the final white primer over that grey primer.

Thanks Ray! I hope to get a leaf spring done for the front end today. I will go with one spring that is fitted like in those Ford Model A's. When I have that one done, I can scratchbuild the Front Axle from brass.

1/16 Scale Army Vega Funny Car - Finished 10/14/2018
W-409 replied to Mooneyzs's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
WOW!!! Now we have some paint on it and it looks great!!! Nice work with the painting, and since you did the sanding and putty work really well, I bet there will be no flaws or mistakes in the paint. You're doing excellent work, as always, I can't wait to see more of this one! -
This is nice! Nice paint work, looks like your test turned out very well. Also the clean assembly looks very good, no gaps or anything between parts. Nice job, and I like the body style a lot too, since it's the same as '74 Chevelle, which is sitting down in the garage. But anyway, you did a great job.

66 Chevy Pro Mod Drag truck (6-16-13) More chassis work
W-409 replied to Prostreet's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Sad to hear that Joe. It would have been really fun to see what you can do with this build. But I'm really looking forward to your 1/16th scale build also, I know you will do great work with it. -
A friend of mine, who casts steelie wheels, Slot Mags and Turbine Wheels oh and Centerlines too in resin, bought '61 Dodge Phoenix promo last year. While he decided to learn casting car bodies, and now I have one '61 Phoenix Resin body on my hands. The kit is complete with only tires missing, but because the chassis is promo style, I didn't take that one with me because I will install a chassis from Lindberg '64 Dodge in here. Great work with the casting, it's very clean and nice! All pictures can be seen from my Fotki Album: '61 Dodge Phoenix.

What makes a pro modeler a pro ?
W-409 replied to cobraman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Actually the seller himself was a welder, and he had done the "Pro Built Chassis" himself. ...But back to the subject. -
This turned out very nice, as always! I like how the body sits on that chassis and you did fine job with painting and detailing this one. Where are those decals from?

What makes a pro modeler a pro ?
W-409 replied to cobraman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have been thinking the same thing many times. Some of those Models really might be excellent and "Pro Built", but then some "pro built" models can be....Well, something else. A same kind of thing I read in Finnish American Car Magazine. A guy bought '40s Dodge Pickup from The HAMB and because it was lowered a lot, he asked that how the chassis is done. Answer was just that it's "Pro Built". When the car arrived in Finland, there were no springs in the chassis and everything except the wheels and engine were welded on place! Man, that's something I wouldn't call very Pro Built... -
Nice combo Dave! Nice builds, both of them and great idea of using another Volkswagen as the Car Hauler. Especially I like the Karmann Ghia, I've always thought that it is very nice car and great body style, you did great job on the build also.
-
That turned out great! I really like the paint job on it and the overall look works just fine. I just wonder if that Hudson Six would be powerful enough to spin those tires. Just kidding, great job.

Alright just a couple of pictures, I saw part of the body away to get Hilborns fit properly and it's starting to look like an engine now. All I need is to scratchbuild Leaf Springs to front, since after searching for more than one hour I came up with nothing. I know I have them somewhere, but I'll probably find them after I have scratchbuilt my own.

Then I moved to the Interior again. The Seat and Door Panels were painted by Humbroll's Radome Tan paint and then I Foiled the Door Panels... Somehow there came those black marks on the other panel, and I couldn't get them off. Well since I have already put the interior together, I can tell you that luckily they can't be seen well after it's all together. Then I painted the Dashboard. I used Black and White, as the Instructions show. Here I still need to paint some of the details and use BMF for the rest of them...

Metal Axle Madness!
W-409 replied to mrknowetall's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That '60 Dodge Phoenix caught my attention. Is it the Jo-Han Promo? You used the chassis that came with it, I guess? I bought one of those too while back. MPC '50 Mercury Snap Kit. I think I have no more, I've built 62 Models and that is the only one I can say surely that it has Metal Axles. Can't remember any other Metal Axle builds... -
66 Chevy Pro Mod Drag truck (6-16-13) More chassis work
W-409 replied to Prostreet's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Cool build, I'm sure this will be a lot of fun to watch! Nice body too, that is absolutely something I'd like to have too after seeing Fast Freddy a couple of times in person doing those huge burnouts! Here's their website for more pics...I'm not sure if there are any chassis shots, but... http://www.fastfreddy.nu/ And I said he does long burnouts. Yes, and then he comes back to the starting line very fast, a few years ago someone was looking with a speed camera and Freddy was reversing over 200 km/h (124 MPH). Here's a video of mine. Not mine, but.. -
Oh and almost forgot this one....
