Need to replicate "gold" chrome
W-409 replied to Shardik's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I think John Teresi got it just right! http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=64858&p=805215 "I tried to replicate Kurt`s brass plated headlight bezels and radiator........so I first painted them Alclad chrome then I painted over them with Alclad candy golden yellow......" -
The easiest way is to buy The Detailer's stuff that is meant for Black Washing. You can get it in different colors, it's water based and you just brush paint it over the grille and the liquid will go between the grille bars. Very easy and simple, and it has given me the best results yet, basically I've never went wrong with that stuff.

This is impressive build. You did fantastic job with the Headlight modifications. I wouldn't have noticed that if you hadn't mentioned it, you've done it so nicely. Also I like the Landau top, even if I never liked it in 1:1 scale and that color is just perfect. Very nice build overall, it's hard to tell that it's such a small scale model.
-
Me too, and I think '71-'72 looks also better than '70. And of course '73-'77! Very nice build again, Al. The tires look excellent, they are a must have for me too. Beautiful paint job on it and the color fits perfectly. Nice work.

Very nice Mustang. I like the white wall tires and those wheels on it. Very nice and sharp build with nice paint and detail. You did good job on masking and painting those window trims, one of the things where I never succeed in. Maybe that's why I haven't picked one of these kits yet.
-
Well the subject doesn't fit into my interests, but it sure is nicely built. Nice paint work and cleanly assembled. My favorite part is the tire and wheel choice. Much better than those low profile tires and big wheels. Very nice!
-
Excellent work, Matt! Especially the paint job is very nice and that BMF looks really good also. This will be a winner for sure, but remember to put BMF for the chrome trim above that Rear Bumber as shown in the picture below. I almost forgot to do that with mine, and it just caught my eye and I'm trying to help, not nit picking.

'66 Mustang Pro Modified (Updated 10/16/2013)
W-409 replied to W-409's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Thanks Everyone! Ryan: The TDR Turbos can be used in many different scales. For example my Turbos are 4" in 1/25 scale, but then they would be 2,5" in 1/16 and 2" in 1/12th scale. See here, on the Right hand side next to the picture, the sizes. http://www.tedsmodelingmarketplace.com/turbo-chargers-all-sizes/ -
Thanks Guys! I knew you could help me. Now back to the bench to make some Throttle Linkages!
-
I'm getting close to finish (Hopefully!) with my '71 Plymouth Barracuda Pro Stocker, but I need help on detailing Dominators. The Fuel Lines are clear, but I need advice on Throttle linkages. The problem is that I have two carbs in Tunnel Ram setup. I didn't find clear pictures from that kind of setup where I could see the carburetor linkages. So I'm looking for good pictures.
-
That is looking very good. Nice to see it back on the bench! Great work with the Pressure Regulator and those fuel lines look really good too. Funny thing is that Yesterday I scratchbuilt one Fuel Pressure Regulator for my '71 Barracuda and today I have to do another one... At the same time you did the same thing with yours. Nice work!

Showboat Redux / Quarter Master...Update 11/23/13
W-409 replied to Nitrozilla's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
What He Said ! It sure is coming along nicely, I'm liking it more and more after each update. Those engines look very good on place and I like your detail painting a lot. Very Nice, Wild and Clean building, keep it coming. -
MISTER TWISTER Chevy II Nova..COMPLETE..12/01/13
W-409 replied to Mister Twister's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Very nice work and interesting subject. It must be a lot of fun to build a replica of your own car. That's something I'd like to try too. Very nice detail work so far in the interior and chassis. I can't wait to see more. -
Well, personally I wouldn't buy a built model. Glue Bombs are an exception here, though. There are a couple of reasons why I don't buy those. First, what would I do with a Model Car that is already built, but is too nice to be taken apart and rebuilt. Then it's just taking one place in my shelf. Second, the nicely built Models are usually way too expensive for me. And of course, it's very critical to pack the model very carefully for sending it to another place. There are more people who buy new kits, rather than built models (Except those Glue Bombs!). I see many of those nicely built Models for sale for a very high price... Just wonder how many of them get sold with that amount of cash...

'66 Mustang Pro Modified (Updated 10/16/2013)
W-409 replied to W-409's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Thanks Guys! Yeah I will try to add as much details as I can for this one, since real ProMods have tons of wires. Here are a couple of pictures of those TDR Turbochargers. They sure are great quality. If anyone has a Turbo car that he/she is building, I highly recommend these parts. The pictures don't do a justice for them, but I can tell you that they are really nice. -
1955 Chevy Cameo
W-409 replied to PappyD340's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Very nice Chevy Cameo. Great work on the BMF, it's not easy to do that narrow trims that nicely. Nice paint and very clean build overall, nice to see these Factory Stock Builds, too. -
Very Cool! It sure looks "Period Perfect" build to me. I like the stance and wheel and tire choice. Smooth paint and great overall look... I really like it.

Last Week I got something done with the Torino Talladega. The interior is pretty much done. I only need to add Shifter and some finishing touches. I made the seat belts from paper and after that I just put the interior together as usual. It was pretty simple and fitment was great. Then I did a little test fit with the Chassis, Interior, Body and Engine and I saw that some cutting is needed on the inner fenders. Now the engine - and Pro Charger fit to the engine bay and I already filled the Windshield Washer Bottle's place. Battery-Area needs to be filled before any Bondo-Work.

You ever get ahead of yourself ?
W-409 replied to cobraman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
This is a good one ! Count me in as one who also gets ahead of myself. Most problems come from doing some modifications, then gluing scratchbuilt/modified parts on place and then I figure out, that I can't install all parts anymore... So I need to take it apart again. Because of this I try to plan my builds better nowadays but it looks like that doesn't always help either. -
'66 Mustang Pro Modified (Updated 10/16/2013)
W-409 replied to W-409's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Thanks Jeremy. Well this has been collecting dust for a long time. Today, new Turbochargers by TDR Innovations arrived from Teds Modeling Marketplace. Great service and fast shipping even across the ocean. I highly recommend this place. On the same order I bought some other goodies as well, as seen in the picture. Mainly Pro Tech stuff, that can't be bought here. There would have been lots of more Must Have stuff, but didn't have money for everything. Also my dad ordered some goodies, but he will post more about them when he gets that Super Stocker into progress.. The parts look very good and Ted's service was excellent. Thank You for the order. So all this means that the Mustang will be back on the bench! Some modifications will follow too. I'm not going to keep the body original, as originally planned. It will be "Full Pro Mod" with correct wheelbases etc. Just needs to figure out what should I do to get it right. -
I thought it was C300? Very good looking start. Your builds are always superb and with one of the best kits that I've seen, this is going to be interesting. Smooth paint and excellent work on the engine and interior. I'm looking forward for more.
-
Five Hours?? I couldn't do that nice work in 5 Months! It certainly doesn't look like Five Hour build, everything looks good to me. Nice work.
-
Looking Great! Your work is always impressive. Those Metal Finishes are really nice and that combined with spectacular detailing looks very good. My Pro Tech Braided Lines are somewhere between Miami and Finland... Can't wait.
-
Thanks Peter! There sure is lots of Eye Candy in NASCAR and Drag Racing Models sections too. I think they are my favorite sections of whole Forum. Thanks for the kind words, they mean a lot coming from such a talented builder.
-
I agree with the heads. They could be more realistic. But otherwise, I like the engine and I have used it in some of my builds. Of course, it's not the best, but I like it. Wow that Grille is work of art. I think I would need a Photo Etch part, if I tried to do what you did in here, there would be nothing left from the grille.
