A short update: With turkey day past and decorating for the next holiday I haven't progressed much on the NSX. The tires & wheels are done.

Custom Chevelle Finished Moved to under glass
Steve Keck replied to customsrus's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Your styling concepy really works for me. I like! -
If you are documenting a work-in-progress how about showing the work part? If this is a kit review its in the wrong place.

Use the low-tech/low-budget material the native American artists use. Next time you are wanderind in the desert southwest pick up a handful of yucca leaves. Take the end of one and place it in your mouth like a tooth pick - James Dean style. The fibers will break down to where they can be stripped off individually making perfect striping brushes.

That takes my breath away.

That, Danno Baby is an insult! You'd best show up at Saturday's contest with an apology spouting from your lips or I'll harm your precious emoticons!

I'm unsure just hows those belts are meant to work.

3/4" pipe, Mike.

After adjusting the offsets I can see how it will sit.
-
I've turned new brake rotors that fit over the kit hubs. This will provide more space for the offset required with the wheels I've selected. Replicas & Miniatures calipers look better with the larger rotors. The wheels & tires come from Tamiya's Mazda 787B kit. To achieve the proper offset I cut off the kit rims and turned new rims from PVC pipe. Next up: aluminum beauty rims.

My newest project is Tamiya's Acura NSX done as a sleeper tuner only I got ahead of myself and forgot to take pictures of the white styrene body posed on the kit wheels & tires. Can anyone help out and post these so I can get on with my update? Thanx!

Thanks everyone! Harry and Mark, I took your advice and black washed the wheels - looks nice. Thanks! Skip and Dave, here's a link to the manufacturer's website: http://vintagespyders.com/turnkey.html

Jimmy Flintstone resin Porsche 550 Spyder modified to represent a friend’s kit car. Wheels, tires, all chromed parts (except gas cap – big THANK YOU to Bigphoto! ) and glass are from Fujimi Porsche 356B, kit no. 29. Modifications include scratch built inner door panels and front bulkhead, removal of the racing headrest fairing and reshaping the 356B soft top rear glass for use as the windshield. The bottom of the resin tub containing the space frame tubing and floor pan was removed and replaced with styrene rod and sheet. Thanks for looking!

The exhausts are installed. The engine is complete with the intake manifold and cylinder heads installed. The radiators and associated ducting have been installed as well. The 1:1 Honda name and logo appear to be cast aluminum painted black that were then machined to hi-light them. I applied BMF, painted them Testors black chrome and then used a lacquer thinner soaked tooth pick to remove the paint to reveal the raised portion.

My Inspirational Model Car
Steve Keck replied to Romell R's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks, Romell! It's good to know I've inspired one modeler. For me my inspiration hasn't come from particular models but from the modelers themselves. It would be their dedication to accuracy and perfection that has inspired me. They would be Mark Jones and David Morton. Without associating the perpetrator with the crime I know of one that stripped and repainted a hood seven times and the other that stripped and repainted a complete car 21 (that's twenty-one) times. Now that's dedication! -
Its good that you spent the time you did on the seat ventilators as they look great through the glass. How did you do the small sliders in the side glass? Decals?

Have you seen a model busted at a show?
Steve Keck replied to Lunajammer's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I heard about this at the 2004 IPMS NATS in Phoenix: At a previous NATS an armor modeler had intentionally built a tank he knew would not be competitive yet entered it anyway. At the NATS the model room is closed during the awards presentation and is then opened for only a short time so there is a crush of people in the room all at once packing their models. Said competitor arrived at his model and while picking it up announced to the entire room in his loudest voice "IF THE JUDGES DON'T THINK THIS IS WORTHY THEN I DON'T WANT IT ANYMORE!" And slammed it against a wall! I attended the same 2004 NATS with a good friend who learned his grandmother had passed away unexpectedly and he had to leave on the next plane. He asked me to take charge of his models (1/24th scale cars) and to pack them in his clear display cases. When he handed me the empty cases stacked on each other the top one fell onto the concrete floor. Could have heard a whisper across the 90,000 square foot room. And I'll never forget the look in his eyes of zero confidence in my ability to safe guard his models! -
