De Havilland Comet
Old Buckaroo replied to Mike C's topic in All The Rest: Motorcycles, Aviation, Military, Sci-Fi, Figures
Very nice Mike, too bad on the decals. I would look for some MicroScale Alphabet decals to finish it out. -
Got one of my most wanted in the mail today after a helpful forum member pointed me in the direction of it. Its in great shape assembly wise. Gust enough glue that parts have fallen off rather than fused forever. It is missing one radius rod for the front. If I cant source one I will scratch build a replacement. It will be cleaned up, rebuilt and hopefully I can find a set of decals also. On another note - I have figured out where all those resin wrinkle wall slicks Ive bought over the year originated from.. I decided that I needed to build Big Rigs
Old Buckaroo replied to Screaminhelo's topic in Welcome! Introduce Yourself
Welcome Bill, I transitioned to Semi trucks after building aircraft for years over on the FSM forum. You're in for a fun adventure, there is so much you can do with the truck kits especially since you remember trucks from back in the day. -
When the outside temps drop down into the negative , both heat registers in the living room has a cat camped out. My wife and I have to layer up as they steal all the heat.

What a great looking chopper - love what you did with the heads and cases. This kit was my first exposure to models. I was seven years old and my older brother was building it. All I remember was it was the coolest thing Id ever seen and him telling me at least 100 times "Hands Off" I really need to find this kit and build my own.

"cough cough" I think I caught your bug. After seeing this beautifully painted Charger - I ordered two of them. Mr Norms turned out great - that is one to be proud of. I had one of those gold sparkle helmets that came with the old '55 ex drag car I bought. I left with the car for the next owner.

Great job on getting rid of the "Lego shocks" that's exactly how I feel about a lot of chunky molded in pieces. Wooh the engine bay is tight, but it looks good sitting in there. π

Holding a part to paint
Old Buckaroo replied to Super28's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I'm a fan of popsicle sticks with scotch double stick tape or use my clampy tweezers. -
My wife pulled in behind my truck last night. (not her usual parking spot) Negative twenty eight this morning and her car said"Heck No" when I went to start it. Cant let her use my truck as its blocked in. She can stay home and enjoy my entertainment for the day.

What Did You Have for Dinner?
Old Buckaroo replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Several nights back actually , I had spent most of the day moving snow off of trailers, vehicles and shoveling it out of the way. My wife asked what I wanted for supper - my reply was "Apple pie A'la-mode" , so she made one from scratch. You can do that when the kids are grown and gone! -
Mike was the electric company a Coop ? We've gotten similar checks from power companies after we have moved on.

There is a great bit of advice right there - That should be on billboards! No pun intended π

Now that is just cool, nice work and I really like what you did with this buildup. I have a "love hate relationship" with this model kit. As a kid growing up it was always in every store that sold models by the multiples. Ive never liked Corvettes and my taste back then was for the MPC Pro Stockers. But this is the kit that was on the shelves, and every boy in Jr High had the mini "Farrah" poster in their locker. My wife asked me once what was the all time hated kit and this was the first one I mentioned.. But then out or sheer curiosity I looked at them on ebay expecting to see $1.98 Buy it now prices. To my surprise there was only a couple with very high prices. Long story short, I bought one that I thought was a bargain compared to the others after a few weeks of watching the auctions. So yes I have this kit, my decals are crud, but I hope to find a set. I will build this as my one and only corvette model to show my wife "I am not scared" I really hope mine will turn out as fabulous as yours, the work you put into it reminds me a lot of the early days of customizing models and I will mark yours for a reference. π

They closed a hundred mile stretch of interstate here yesterday. Ive driven all the way across Montana and the state of Wyoming many a times with just one lane open. Now they don't even do that..

What Scared the Heck Outta You Today
Old Buckaroo replied to Falcon Ranchero's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Mike - I recommend that last half hour before turning off the lights to read a bit. My go to book has always been "Lonesome Dove" or back issues of "Scale Auto" reprogram the days thoughts and worries before shutting down. -
Revell's Peterbilt 359: WIP
Old Buckaroo replied to David G.'s topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
David - I love the work you're doing here. Those kit wheels always look 100% better with a dull coat on them, and the fuel tank re-work is top notch!
