  1. I am starting to see red on this build Still need to unmask the other airbags.
  2. For some reason I think a "flaming Jackolantern" on the aero would look really cool on this Nice paint scheme you have done on this one.
  3. Growing up in the late 70's I hated Van kits and Corvettes. That is all you could find to build in the stores ,( I wanted the MPC Pro Stocks) Seems like every tv show had a van or corvette with their logo. I was surprised I never saw one for MASH ! I am sure the molds are still out there somewhere. I will check around with some of my model hoarding friends to see what they have.
  4. They are so useful, I started using them years ago to assist with leveling aircraft wings , Make a small box to hold those tall skinny glue bottles , decal setting solutions ect. Q-tip - thanks for the links and encouragement to jump in the deep side of the pool
  5. You can use a piece of plastic window screen and paint over it to give your floor mat the grid work. I like your reference pic - Accelerator and Clutch polished clean, brake dirty and grimey and stuck to the floor.
  6. Very cool - something about those stretched frames and sleepers. I like your modeling style , just build as you know without hardly the aid of instructions. I would sure hate to fill those tanks up.
  7. You betcha, Although I only removed 48 mm as with the mock up it looked right to my eye. *Disclaimer* I am going for close not exact otherwise I will get to obsessed with details and never get this built. Like my frame shop And your right on the money with your suspicion.
  8. I am more impressed with the frame detail on your kit then I am with the frame on the kit I am working on. That is a beautiful truck - Nice paint scheme. That is an impressive "Ready Line" of Semi's & trailers - is that your family business ?
  9. Those are some seriously talented scratch building skills That is a real fine truck your constructing, I live in logging country and there are still a few of these old rigs out and about with the "Family Loggers". That wood floor is perfect.
  10. First off you guys are a really bad influence. I have spent the last few weeks reading every post in the BIG Rig section between paint drying on a couple of cars I am trying to finish up. The last Semi I built was over 33 yrs ago. A few days ago both these kits arrived from an old friend in a trade. I thought I could resist but nope Somehow I dont remember all those pin marks from way back and I prefer the old white plastic over this gray stuff - it seems softer. That is all for now
  11. I had forgotten about that saying - thanks for the laugh of the day. I remember getting stuck behind those on I-80 through Wyoming. Jim - Nice work , and I like the RLM 62 better also.
  12. That is awesome - Thank you for posting that.
  13. I haven't done any curved semi windshields but a multitude of curved automotive with clear acetate. (Im lazy and hate polishing out scratches) I will use a note-card trimmed roughly to fit on the inside to make a pattern, draw along the inside frame with a mechanical pencil if possible. One the pattern is drawn enlarge it - 3 to 4 mm Is what I start with. Once you have the pattern fitted with a inside lip being big enough for a gluing ridge transfer to the acetate. Here is the secret. "Aleenes Original Tacky Glue" it is a quick drying white glue that will dry clear. Start at a pillar post and work your way around making a small bead with a or little dots by using a toothpick for an aplicator. If you get a little out side of the frame a damp q-tip will clean it off. Once attached you can go back around with same glue and seal all the edges. Don't be discouraged sometimes it takes more then once to get it right Hope that makes sense I forgot - Tamiya tape works really well for holding the windshield in place (center) to get you aligned and started on the glue process.
  14. 1984 F-250 And the old '55
  15. Since you want to be able to see the interior why dont you make the "airo " removable ? You could make some hidden pins to keep it in align and from slipping off. There is a pretty good view into the cab without it in the parts pic.
  16. That right there is the reason I quit building WWII aircraft. Hrs & hrs or P/E work to Never be seen. This looks like a nice kit - I never got the "privilege" to work on one. Plenty of Volvo's but never any of the Star's. Do you have plans on building as a OO showpiece or a fleet truck ?
  17. Jeff that is a fine looking Mack, too bad about the MIA windshield. Put a feeler out in the "wanted" section of the forum. I would recommend sourcing some clear acetate sheet or a piece of clear packaging (you know that stuff you can never get into) and make one. Even with that curve it should not be too hard with persistence. Another tip I will share with you - on flat surfaces that you want to put a decal on brush on a little "Future Floor Wax" although the name has changed to Pledge floor care about the size of the decal and let dry, that ghosting of the clear decal paper wont be there.
  18. Russel - those are two fine looking builds. I am a retired Diesel Mechanic and I love those older trucks. They had such great paint schemes and lots of shiny stuff on them.
  19. Shane - your frame looks square and that is a good start. What I would have given for a hobby mat with square grids when I was a teen building trucks. Keep at it, this is a sharp looking truck to model. I think I have read every post on this forum pertaining to the AMT Freightliner. Well I feel I am an expert now on all the quirks and should order one
  20. Nice work & build up Roger, it is amazing how some of these projects fight you the whole way. Belated congratulations on the baby I have been having a heck of a time finding front tires also - seems like every kit I check has those blasted Good Year Poly Glass in them.
  21. Nice work and Great truck to build up. I have a soft spot for these old trucks. Jesse is still way to clean !
  22. II have a AMT Aerodyne KW, kit no. 31770 in route, It is suppose to have a Allison from what I understand. I do not have plans of using it. Should be here towards the end of Next week (1/10/13)
  23. Awesome truck to build. Looks really great and I wouldn't worry about those turbo seams. The factory doesn't .
  24. Thanks guys, I am still plugging away on this. It the little things that burn up the bench time and trying to remember my " great ideas" from several years back is taking the most time. Roger old friend - Glad to see you stopping by.
  25. Yes x 2 , Jim is a Great guy to deal with !
