I have been wanting to start a collection of "Grumpy's Toys" for years. I am not getting any younger and the dust is getting deeper on the donor kits. The kit I am using for Toy II is AMt's 67 Camaro Z-28. Not a bad kit but not the greatest either. First thing to do is remove the door and quarter window trim (1968 option) and give the car the sexy shape it deserves.I used a scribe tool and tape for a guide. Before After Another thing that bothers me about this kit are the seats. Even if the car had the rare option headrest they did not look like this One out of the box - the other after the razor saw and sanding stick I also had to make up a pair of slicks to fit under the factory wheel wells. Finding a donor pair of tires ,a Dremel tool with a sanding stick got the results I wanted. Test fitting the L-88 427 , also used some sheet styrene to fill the channel of the subframe. I have the stance that I want Body in primer Thanks for following along, tips and comments always welcome.

That is an awesome build and very nice work on the engine. Those old Johan kits just cant be beat !

Awesome project ! Those slicks are looking really good. I am in the process of building "Toy III" My Wife got me the book "Grumpy's Toys" for Christmas - I can hardly put it down. It is loaded with info and lots of pics I had never seen before. Trivia - Did you know Grumpy Bill is credited for designing the Hooker Header logo that is still in use today ? It was hand painted on "Toy III"

What a great job on this build. The old "stockers" had so much more character then the cars of today. -

Are the tires rubber or hard plastic ? Not sure how you cold successfully pull off flattening rubber tires. I use to put load on aircraft tires by use of a iron and a piece of wax paper (kept the plastic from melting to the iron) By heating them enough to give a slight smooth surface and bulge . Shaping with a sanding stick really improved the look. Perhaps there are some loaded resin tires on the market ? If using the hard plastic tires shaping them with bondo works really well - but dont get to carried away

It is always nice to see a model given a second chance , plus it being a '55 chevy makes it even better. Your off to a good start - nice job on the rear wheel radius cuts.

Those are way cool brett, I always thought those were good modeling canidates after watching the movie with my kids. You really nailed the look.

Dragging this back up out of the past . Sorry for such an absence, no excuse other then lifes tragedies. Moving on from them it is time to get back to modeling. Going to shoot for finishing this one up before the New Year.

That Yamaha Motobike from the '70's brings back a lot of memories. I knew several kids that had them. I myself had one of the AMF "Evil Knievel" bikes As BMX Bikes became more popular I ended up stripping everything down to the bare frame and painting it red and adding mag wheels. To make matters worse about 10 years ago when I was back home picking up stuff I had stored - I hauled that box of Dress Up Goodies to the Dump. - I know , I know I could of sold them and bought Models.. Now days I ride either one of these bikes

Help with Goodyear tire decals for the Mongoose
Old Buckaroo replied to jlucky's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
I see you live in BC. I have forgotten what they call across the border, here in the states it is called "Pledge With Future Shine". Basically clear lacquer for kitchen floors, brush some on where your decal needs to go and use it for adhesion. It will dry shiny so you will need to spray a dull coat over it also. I use this method for tiny little decals and also P/E emblems on painted surfaces. -
oldscool - The suspension is out of the box. All I did was cover the top frame with some thin styrene. Brian - I just used a # 76 drill bit to drill the distributor. Thanks to everyone who commented and looked , PROSTOCKHEMI Rocks ! That was one of the sites that motivated me back to wanting to build Pro Stocks. I have been getting the paint on but I blew it on the last color. I forgot to go back and burnish down the masking tape and had a few bleeders. (Sail panels and cowl grill) Roger maybe there is a gremlin with the Duster Anyway I am trying to decide whether to touch up the bleed troughs or put it in the stripper bath and try again. Comments and suggestions always welcome - a guy has to learn somehow Sean

work spaces
Old Buckaroo replied to buck smallwood's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Blake the booth is made by paasche , the fan is mounted on the back. It is a nice booth for under $200.00 and suits my needs well. The short run of piping also really increases the draw of air. Sean -

I always liked this topic for a thread. Some Very Nice Work-spaces and Fantastic Stashes. This is where I spend most of my time, its a small room but it is all mine. One of the reasons I vented my spraybooth through the wall was so it could not be turned back into a bedroom in case my Mother in Law decides to visit. -
That is Way Cool. Looks like your decal making is pretty Top Notch. Was that actually a kit or a Promo you converted ? Sean

I decided to try my hand at drilling out the JoHan Distributors. Good thing I have a "Optivisor" as that made the chore a breeze. I have one wired in and the next one is ready to go. Thanks to a Tip from Caine440 the Carbs have a more realistic color to them. Sean

Old Buckaroo replied to John Teresi's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
That buildup is Fantastic, WOW ! With the outside background that could be mistaken for the 1/1 Sean -
David - That is a nice haul. A big box of parts and kits like that given to me is what got me into the hobby 35 some years ago. I still like finding "Lots" like that and restoring /rebuilding the contents.
