1/16 Scale Army Vega Funny Car - Finished 10/14/2018
Mooneyzs replied to Mooneyzs's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
While I have been struggling with having motivation to build anything lately, I decided to spend some time drawing up a couple more FED chassis. I worked on a a SPE (Speed Products Engineering) 188" wheelbase Chassis and what I believe to be a Jim Davis 178" Wheelbase Chassis. Here is what they look like: SPE Chassis is the semi orange chassis and the Jim Davis is the Cyan colored one, Isometric view: Here are is a side view of the chassis: And for Giggles I decided to add the 144" Woody Gilmore Chassis I drew up a while back next to them to compare all of them -

Josh... If you are willing to spend a little cash TDR has some Big Blocks which are 3D printed from Shapeways. Here is their link to their site, you will pay about 60 to 90 bucks depending on the material its printed in: https://sites.google.com/site/tdrhtmllearn/home/engine-shop/chevy-engine-selection/bbc-basic-block-kits Links to the listing on shapeways: https://www.shapeways.com/product/9L5D2WK8X/1-12-scale-stock-bbc-block-kit-with-mech-fuelpump?li=shareProduct&optionId=43537199 https://www.shapeways.com/product/M6QUGD6LY/1-12-stock-bbc-block-kit-no-mech-fuel-pump?li=shortUrl -
Scale Finishes - Blotchy Paint
Mooneyzs replied to sdbos777's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Is this being sprayed directly on the plastic or you spraying it over primer?? I am wondering if your first coat is a little too heavy and the solvents could possibly be a little too Hot for the plastic and it's crazing the plastic just a little bit. I have had crazing issued on my models before and I tend to mist a few first coats and then I can a little heavier coat after that. Also is it just the Scale Finishes paint your are seeing this on or is it also different brands of model paint?- 24 replies

Rickard.... this is turning our amazing. The detail is just out of this world. I love the paint choice you went with too. The trunk looks killer and love the trick with the Acorn nut to help shape the bondo. I do have to ask where you got those holding tools you used holding the bad pedal linkages. Looking forward to your next update.

Well Guys... I know I haven't had an update in quite a while. I haven't really done much on this since GSL and have done a little work here and there but really haven't gotten as much accomplished as I would like. I have gotten a couple things done the past 3 months but just haven't had motivation for this build. Here is a little of what I have accomplished. Here is all of the components for my body latch mechanism. I had to redo the Pull handle and how I had it attaching to the assembly. I ended up using Albion Alloys Nickle Silver Tubing and Soldered the T-Handle as well as a .5mm threaded bolt into it, I cut the head off the bolt to get it to work the way I wanted: Here I decided to make a centering spud for the spring that would mount to the inside of the body: It was time to get the rod painted and I used Model Master Metalizer that I had which was the closest to a steel color I had: Here I got the spring centering spud trimmed and glued into place on the body: -
Mark... I totally understand about not out sourcing the printing. I think what you did looks amazing. The distributor and distributor cap look awesome. Love the boots you made from brass for the valve covers. Oil pan looks great too.

Dave... glad you are happy with the candy store . I haven't forgotten about the other parts, just haven't had much time lately, although I did start them. I will get them done soon.

Man this is just killer Brother. There are so many details that set this build off and just pop. You keep raising that bar for the rest of us. I am going to have to step up my game just to keep up. The seat and belts look killer and I lI've what you did to your tins. Every update you do is just better than the previous. Loving your work my friend.

Dave... I gotta agree with Tim here. This this looks like the real thing. And is gorgeous. The detsil is insane on that. Loving it my friend. Keep up the awesome work. You need to spend a little more time on this the '37 can wait...

John.. my Brother This is Engine is just looking Killer. Man you knocked it out of the part. I don't know why but there is something about the blower that is making it my favorite part. I think it is just how you painted it with the Alclad and then to top off the whole engine is the subtle weathering you have given everything to make it life like. It looks like the real thing. I am glad you enjoyed the 3D parts, Just love your work my friend. Keep up the killer work on this build, It's amazing man!!

Richard... Very cool you are going to build these kits. You have said you aren't sure if the decals are good or not from being stored for many years. Here is a link to Mike's Decals. He carries a ton of stuff and I would Highly Recommend the PowerSlide Decals. http://www.mikesdecals.com/ You can take a look and check out what he has.

Mark... I had to get caught up on this awesome build, I have missed a bunch...lol And Holy smoke are your moving along on this. Amazing work that you have done so far. I know it will only get better. Looking forward to seeing more.

Wayne... Looking good, This turned out great. I couldn't agree with you more about Chucks Decals, They are very nice, thin and go on well. I have a few sets of his decals for some future projects myself. The only thing I can suggest on why the decals may of wrinkled it could of been that the clear was a little too hot for it. I had a couple of mine that looked like they started to wrinkle when I cleared my funny car body. The decals on my Army Funny car a Mixture of Chucks decals and what Brad (Gasser59) drew up for me both printed on Alps printers. I think I may have put the clear on a little too heavy at first in the small areas that I had trouble, If I remember I gave it some time in between coats and you can't even tell now where it happened. But definitely made me realize that I needed to mist the first few coats of clear on them. Again Nice job on this build
