1/16 Scale Army Vega Funny Car - Finished 10/14/2018
Mooneyzs replied to Mooneyzs's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Brad, I look forward to meeting you at the show. I wanted to share a little more progress I made to this build last night and tonight. I removed the chrome from the rear end and front end pieces, glued the rear end together. Fabricated a new tie rod, Radius Rods, Forward Drag Link and Rear Drag Link using 1/16" dia aluminum tubing and RB Motion rod end's. Parts on the right were the new fabricated ones and the parts on the left are the parts from the kit.: Up Close shot of the new part. The top 3 parts have been polished and I still polish the bottom 2: Gluing the front axle to the leading links. The next step I plan to modify the towers that the radius rods attach to as well as the tab that are sticking vertical on the chassis for the radius rods. Going to remove them, fab new ones and install them horizontal as in some reference pics that I have of the car: -
That is going to be a cool build. Looking forward to seeing pics and progress on it.

Very Cool Roadhawg... thanks for sharing -
Oh very cool, does he have a website?? I would love to see what all he has for 1/16th scale stuff. I have been buying quite a bit lately for some of my drag builds. If he doesn't have a website maybe I will just email to see if he has pictures and price list. I am the type that would pay a tad more for a better quality product at well.

Is Mark the Owner of Competition Resins?

Mike the rail looks great. nice job. Like others mentioned would be nice to see little bigger pics. I would recommend using photobucket. Thats where I store my pics and post them from there. I copy the IMG Code and paste it in my posts. example of what the IMG Code looks like: [ IMG] http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v429/Mooneyzs/Plastic%20Models/1974%20Vega%20Army%20Funny%20Car/DP-Army-Vega035.jpg[ IMG] I purposly left off the / from at the end to show you how it looks. But all you have to really do is click on the image code in photobucket and it copies it and just past it into your post. Hope that makes sense what I am trying to show you. How long did it take for you to complete this model by the way?

Thanks Brad. No I am not in one of the local modeling clubs. I talked to Danno at the Good Guys show and may try and find some time to come out some time. I am planning on being at the Desert Scale Classic for sure. I also have a Front Engine Dragster that I started many years ago. I am working on a paint scheme for the body at the moment as I am building this F/C build. Hoping to maybe have it (the front engine dragster) painted for the Show next month, but it doesn't have as much detail that is going into this current build. -
This is looking great so far. Nice work at attention to detail.

I have tinted windows using the tamiya clear smoke. Works pretty good just gotta spray light and do multiple coats to your liking

Very Nice build so far. Enjoying all of your pics. That hood looks great as well as removing all of them emblems and molding. Can't wait to see more of this build.

Did a little bit of work on this build tonight. Started out making a jig to hold my parts in place. Drilled holes in some strip styrene and have different holes in the jig for different lengths of the rods I am making. I am using RB Motion rod ends and aluminum tubing. Going to mock them up and glue temporary with Microscales Micro Kristal Klear. Get everything test fit onto the chassis since I am making new tabs that will get glued to the chassis and front axle. Once I am happy with how everything fits, I will go back polish the tubes and then glue the rod ends in with 5 min epoxy. Hoping to make more progress on this tomorrow. -
This build is off to a nice start. Looking good. really like the look of the bags. I have this same kit that I have started many years ago (something like 14 years ago) which I was going to pro street it. I need to adventually get back and finish it lol.

The Donovan Kit that Comp1839 is talking is made by Competition Resins, the part no is CR-11602. You can purchase direct from Competition Resings or from Slixx Decals. I recently have purched some of Compeition resin's 1/16 scale parts from Slixx and the quality is very nice. I picked up a set of the 392 Hemi Valve covers in 1/16 scale. I will dig them out and take a pic and post for you. I am wanting to pick up one of these 417 Donovan motor kits myself. Also another resin company to check out is Flash Point Motorsports for some 1/16 scale stuff, They have some nice stuff as well.

Hey Patrick, yeah I am planning on being there and I will be bringing about 7 builds and a couple of kits that are under construction. 2 of the under construction will be 1/16th scale builds. Look forwad to meeting you at the show.
