Need to fix a warped resin body.
MrObsessive replied to 58 Impala's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Another thing to keep in mind with certain resins.............Make sure that when washing the body for clean up, you don't put the body in too warm a water again as well. Some resins have a "memory", and could go back to the shape they were previously if heated up again too much after straightening. -
Bart, your link to the pic wasn't working properly------here's the Hudson........very nice! While this car is before my time I'd like to get one of these kits.............gotta love that body shape!

Donald, in case you can't obtain the windshield you want, I did a mini tutorial on my Fotki page making "glass" out of clear stencil sheet for Johan's Chrysler Turbine Car. You can click here to check it out. Pretty much from pics #84-93 is where I go into detail about how to setup and make your glass. Hope this helps!

Welcome back Adam! Thanks for the compliment BTW on my Fotki albums!

Screen Saver look!!!

Ian, the 'Vette is a Monogram '57 in 1/24. Quite a few mods were done to make the model as accurate as I could as the original was lacking in some proportions. The poverty caps are from Modelhaus, and the steelies came from my parts box. The ragtop was a modified MPC one but since it was 1/25, I had to do some "stretching and reshaping" to get it to fit the 1/24 body. If you click here, there's quite a few build pics from 2001-02 when I built this. -
2010 Hemi Cuda Convertible
MrObsessive replied to 1320wayne's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That DOES look good Harry! Now if you could change the shape of the rear quarter window to something larger with squarer corners, it'd be about perfect! The quarter window just looks too small to me with all that real estate that's behind the doors. Also in 1:1, it would sure help with the blind spot with such a large sail panel. -

Hmmmm....................... Maybe I'm stuck in the '60's early '70's, but convertibles back in those days seem so much better styled than the ones I see today. Personally, I don't like the "rake" of the current convertible's top as opposed to the original. To my eyes, the rear bow of the top sits too high throwing off the look. Also as I mentioned above, the midsection of the car is just TOO BIG. As Harry mentioned, if someone would do a good section job out of this car, what would be a "nice" car can become an outstanding one IMO. -

You got that right Harry! I said the exact same thing when I first saw this car-------------too heavy in the mid section. I have a more wicked analogy that some may not like but I can't help but think this...........I see many cars with beautiful rooflines, but terrible lower body styling. It reminds me of a very overweight woman (obese) who does up her hair and face real nice, but the rest of her is atrocious! -
Lookin' good Jeff! You know I'm a sucker for builds with opening doors!

2011 Dodge Charger images
MrObsessive replied to 1320wayne's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Harry, you can thank the buyout of Chrysler by Daimler for that blunder! IIRC, the concept came out right around the time the changeover was taking place, dooming the car before it got the chance to see the light of day. At least this is a step in the right direction-----------if not five years too late. -
At first look I thought the exact same thing! Absolutely Beautiful!!

From one Bill to another-----------Welcome! Make yourself right at home.............a lot of great guys here!

Testors AMX Pro Street
MrObsessive replied to ScaleSpeedShop's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You got it! It was a repop of the old Johan '69 AMX. While I'm not familiar with Testors redo, I think this version included PE parts as well as different wheels. -

pontiac grandvilles 71 or 73
MrObsessive replied to montelsc's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Actually, an old MPC '71-'76 Caprice would be a good base as they rode the same basic platform in those years. Of course, you would have to do a LOT of reshaping and scratchbuilding, but the basics are at least there as far as the body shape is concerned. -
21st century cars into kits..
MrObsessive replied to a topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
On my way home from the gym several times a week, I pass by an absolutely BEAUTIFUL red Genny Coupe at the local Hyundai dealer lot. I'd love to trade my Saturn Ion Coupe in for one sometime. It's one of the few RWD coupes one can get these days, without settling for a Camaro, Mustang, or Challenger. They're nice cars, but a bit too bulky for my tastes although I like the Mustang best out of the trio. And yes, a kit of the Genesis Coupe would be nice! -
21st century cars into kits..
MrObsessive replied to a topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Why has no one kitted this??.............. One of the most gorgeous cars to come from Alfa in years and NO WHERE is there a full detail kit! -
One more thing I'd like to add..............it would be a good idea to spray your metallics in a criss-cross pattern something like you would do with a candy paint. This will minimize the "tiger striping" that can come from metallics if one is spraying in a general front to back pattern. Counting the number of strokes would be good too as you can ensure you'd have good coverage on all sides.
-
One of the things you may want to do is to occasionally swill the paint can around in between coats. This will keep the metallic flakes suspended in the color, and not "collect" at the bottom. Of course this will depend on the color............silver is not so much of a problem-----a metallic green may be for instance. HTH!

Hi Fellas! It's been quite a while since I posted on here! I took a much needed break from the hobby and from message boards in general for the last several months. In fact, yesterday was the first time I actually worked on one of my models since about May or so. Just got kinda burned out.............there was a bit of drama here on the board which I hear has cleared up. That wasn't really the sticking point-------I was at a point where I needed to step away from building (and its attendant frustrations) and do some other things for awhile. In checking some of the messages, I want to thank those who have been asking about me, including Harry P. who emailed me a few times in the past. Some of you who know my eBay handle, may have noticed that I even got rid of a number of models over the summer, as the realization has set in that there are just some things that will never get built, so might as well give them to some other modelers who can do something with 'em. I also want to thank those that wished me a happy birthday last month.................that was very nice! I can't promise I'll be on here as often as in the past, but I'll certainly be checking some of the posts from time to time, as well as making a comment or two if I feel so compelled. Thanks for listening!

First off welcome, and WOW! Scratchbuilt engines!! Those look great! When I read your title I thought at first you were talking about shoving a 426 in that little tiny car! VERY interesting project! ................You've got to dig up (if you have them) progress pics of your engines being built!

WATCH YOUR BUILDS
MrObsessive replied to evilone's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Sounds like what they need is a gold old fashioned "Blanket Party"! Those of you who served in the military know EXACTLY what that is! Believe me, that will cure the theft proclivity they have for good! -
Brian, that's a fine lookin' Avanti! The gold paint really makes that stand out! Yours is nice as well Peter--------------I think yours is the first one I've ever seen done as a convertible, even though they exist in 1:1. Your point about styling is right on point Peter! I've been a critic of certain car makers styling for a bunch of years now. As you said, it doesn't cost anymore to make a car look beautiful than to make it ugly. One the problems that has afflicted the American car manufacturers for years now is the "design by committee" look quite a few cars still have. You can tell this when the rear styling doesn't quite flow, or look as good as the front. Throw in the manufacturers bowing to the altar of Front Wheel Drive and there's your recipe for sameness. But folks today are so complacent when it comes to cars............as long as it starts up and gets 'em from point A to point B with no drama, they'll take it------thus the too many lookalike appliances uglying up the roads these days.

Beautiful!! Looks a lot like my Great-Grandmother's '55 (same basic shape) that I can remember riding around in when I was a wee one!
