I had the same thing happen when I built my Daytona years ago. I dipped the decals in water, and they crumbled up like super stale bread! I ordered a new set from Revell, but caution dictated that I cover the decals first with Microscale Decal Film. Worked like a charm! I told Revell about the problem with their flimsy decals, but apparently I'm hearing stories that not much has changed.

How do I get the old format back
MrObsessive replied to a topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yep! Did all that! I still only see the Lo-Fi version and the new style listed. Now I can clear ALL cookies and that might do the trick...........but then whenever I go to a site that I have to sign in, it's a real pain to type in all the passwords and such. Maybe later I'll try that option................. Bummer about the sigs being non HTML............I may try the blog gallery section as I've never used those before here. -

Mozilla also has a cool feature/add on called IE View. This enables Firefox to be able to switch to IE instantly keeping the URL the same and without having to open up IE and going to your homepage, copy and pasting the addy, etc. Click here if you want to check it out. -
Johnny here's a tip I learned from James Testor in regards to black paint. Why not just paint the car in primer black and then shoot about six coats or so of urethane over the primer? Once it's dry, you then rub out and polish the clearcoat and TAA-DAA!............you've got a nice shiny black paint job with no fuss! Of course this requires an airbrush.............but the results would be worth it! Hope this helps!

How do I get the old format back
MrObsessive replied to a topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Gregg, I tried resetting the cache, and clearing out cookies for this board only. I still only see the two skins for the board and not the "comfy" one you described. I'm on Firefox BTW, which I use pretty much exclusively as I'm not a fan of IE8. But then it's not Sunday night yet, so I'll be quiet 'til then! I still can't change my sig though except for just my name in plain/boring arial black text. Other than that, I think the new look is great! -
When doing bodywork or basic building, I use Ambroid Pro Weld for styrene. Tenax isn't a favorite of mine because it evaporates too dang quick for me. Some swear by it which is okay. For windows you either want to use "white glue" such as Krystal Klear, or one of the other brands which I can't remember right now (Formula 500??). 5 min. epoxy is also great for doing glass. NEVER use glue meant for styrene on clear glass!! You'll end up with a mess as well as a ruined windshield or backlite. Epoxy should also be used when doing exterior attachments when it comes to final assembly. Once again you want to avoid regular glue as much as possible for final assembly. One wrong slip and you've just ruined a good paint job, or ruined a part which is beyond salvage.

Hold your CRTL button down while moving your mouse wheel back and forth. This will enlarge or shrink the print on your page..............works with either Firefox or IE. Also at the very top of your screen it will tell you which browser you're using............either Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer. If you're OS is Vista, it has a cool little feature called "Snipping Tool". Hit Start>Accessories>Snipping Tool. You can do a screen shot with that for whatever section you want to save. Trouble is you'll have to save the pic as a .JPG file and then have it hosted through Fotki or Photobucket. You could also run it through the boards pic file attachment if the file size isn't too big. Hope this helps!

Testing pic limits..........
MrObsessive posted a topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It appears that the pic limit is the same which is GREAT! -
Hmmm...........you might want to check your keyboard settings James. Which browser are you using? I'm on Firefox and haven't had any troubles. Interestingly, I still can't add anything to my signature..........maybe that bug hasn't been worked out yet. Other than that, this new look is FANTASTIC!

has not set their status

WOW!! I like it!!

Thanks for the heads up Gregg!

Have signature pics been banned?
MrObsessive replied to MrObsessive's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I know some get annoyed with pics that are too big and not cropped and resized properly------I know I do. I try to make my sig pics that are not overwhelming to the point that it shifts the board over unnecessarily. I had a nice one to put up too------------hopefully it is a software glitch! -
Have signature pics been banned?
MrObsessive replied to MrObsessive's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well phooey on that if it's true! What stops someone (like me for instance in a tutorial) from making 10 posts in a row with three pics?? The effect is still the same. I know some can't get (or can't afford) the cheapest DSL, but that'll be a major annoyance when it comes to posting info which is picture/graphic heavy. Sorry if this puts a bug in someone's ear if they're on dial-up, but that's the way of the tech world these days. Newer computers today are built to take a very high speed connection with no hiccups. -
Excellent Paint!!

Okay, I'm trying to update my sig pic and the board is telling me that my signature is too long. Now I was able to change my sig pic a couple weeks ago when I had one of my cat, and there was no problem. This along with the links and a quote at the bottom. Now all I can do is put in my name, and nothing else. Did something change, or am I not being computer geeky enough today?

BIG Congratulations to Bob!

Congrats Bob! The link is here for those that want to see it! -
Krylon is an acrylic enamel which might explain its problem with being overcoated with Duplicolor. Duplicolor is a "hotter" paint (synthetic lacquer?), so I wouldn't trust it much over an acrylic enamel. I guess one could spray very light coats if they wanted and get away with it, but I'm a big believer in using the same type paints throughout the whole process. The same brand names among colors and types makes it all the better.

The windshield frame on the convertible is fixable.......... That was one thing I noticed IMMEDIATELY upon opening the box! I can remember this car as a kid as a cousin of mine had one, and was very disappointed by this faux pas! Here's a quick and dirty fix I did to the frame....... This is the original frame...........cartoonish looking ain't it?? I took a pair of dividers against the coupe kit which I have, and chopped the frame about two scale inches............ For temporary looks I added a piece of styrene square rod to simulate the vent window. When I'll get around to trying to build it is anyone's guess! Now the coupe roofline while very nice is also a bit inaccurate as it's missing the "ridge" that runs along the trailing edge of the C pillar as represented in the 1:1. Also the upper edge of the side window line is a bit too straight IMO. There should be subtle curve starting at the rear quarter window leading very gently down to the C pillar.

Now THIS is the kind of box art that should be gracing kits these days!

Plymouth, a 57, not a '58
MrObsessive replied to Jon Cole's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Jon, tail-lights would also be different from '57 to '58. Brake lights on the '58 would be where the back up lights are on the '57. Chrysler for some reason "shrunk" the tail-lights on most models for '58 to perhaps put more emphasis on the fins? I think Don carries the '57 tail-lights also. Turn signals on the '58 were in between the dual headlights...........if you look too quick you'd miss 'em! Other than that, the only other changes would be interior patterns, otherwise they're 'bout identical. -
AAHH! Nice to see you try your hand at this one Harry! Is that the one you got from me, or is it the two seater like you have pictured above? I've got to keep my eye on this one!
