We are gonna get hit hard!!!!
MrObsessive replied to cruz's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
1977-78 and 1978-79 were some of the nastiest, snowiest winters I can ever remember here in the northeast in my 48 years on this planet! I've never seen so much snow as I had then. IIRC, I swear the snow had a strict schedule especially in the '77-'78 winter. During February-March '78, it literally snowed every Tuesday and Friday for something like over a month straight! .............And not some little nuisance 4-5" snowfall------these were 1 and 2 footers to boot! Winter 1993 and 1996 might be in the running for a close second and third. We got hit here in Central PA by the blizzard of March '93. Then there was the terrific January 1996 storm that made so much ice after the storm--------------the resulting warmer weather caused an ice jam that took out the west shore span of the "Walnut Street" bridge. They never did rebuild it to this day. -
Corvairs were a regular part of my growing up as I had an uncle that I believe owned every version Corvair made at one time or another. Unfortunately, he recently passed away this past summer. He still owned at the time of his passing, a 1966 Corvair Monza Coupe which was in EXCELLENT shape! One thing that sticks in my mind about Corvairs as a kid, is how they started. The sound they make when starting up is very unique and one could close their eyes and tell a Corvair firing up. Kind of "Badip-Badip-Badip" starter sound for those old enough to remember these unique cars on the road.

Sigh............As I mentioned in a previous post, the roofline still doesn't look correct to me. Sorry, but rooflines to me carry the "signature" of a particular car. If they're not right, it makes the entire car off to my eyes. Test shot or no, I'll bet ya this doesn't change with the release of the kit. I've never owned a '66 (or any '65-'66 GM B-body hardtop) but having seen sooooo many of these as a kid in the '60's and as a teen in the '70's-------I can spot the subtle things wrong with the roofline shape in a minute!

Real or Model #126 FINISHED!
MrObsessive replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
Yup! As soon as I saw that pic I knew it was real! I saved every last pic off the Autoblog site when it first appeared to my hard drive, as that's one of the most beautiful Testarossa's I've seen ever! That also happens to be one of my favorite '50's Ferrari racers! Red is quite common for these cars, but that black is an absolute knockout! -
Real or Model #126 FINISHED!
MrObsessive replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
Hmmm..........ain't sayin' yes-----ain't sayin' no-------just mebbe! This is one of my favorite '50's racers! I wish I could OWN the real thing! I'd be paranoid about leaving it ANYWHERE though! I know where this one originates ---------that's all I'm gonna say! -
I recently got a virus embedded in a pic from an email attachment. I have AVG which didn't pick it up previously, but I knew there was a problem when I couldn't get updates from Microsoft to download. I decided to reformat the drive myself, and when I reinstalled the latest version of AVG after everything was back on my system, that's when the virus was picked up. Apparently when Carbonite reinstalled my files, the virus somehow embedded itself in my printer files and had spread from there. BTW, flash drives and external hard discs are nice, but what if you have a fire, or those things are stolen?? Your pics, music, and other files are still gone forever! That's one reason I recommend Carbonite........your files are safe offsite, so if something tragic happens to your computer and the other ancillary devices, your data is kept safe.

Yikes! Maybe it was just as well I sold it to you Harry! I'm so used to test fitting everything along the way-------but the way you explained it, I can see where it wouldn't be possible to do so until you're at that particular step. If the doors aren't painted Harry, is there a way to shave the trailing edge of the door and then polish 'er up?? You could protect everything around it with Parafilm perhaps so that nothing gets scraped or nicked. Just a thought!

Nick F-40's BIRTHDAY!!!
MrObsessive replied to george 53's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Ha! Tell me about it! I was already 30 years old by the time he came along! Now that's feelin' kinda old! Hope you had a good one Nick! -
Sharp bug you've got Randy!! The color is really nice! I see you even got the negative camber in the rear wheels they were notorious for too!

Where To Find Paint Color Charts?

You can also try here for a decent selection of color codes and charts available. -
Gm B Body Chassis Substitution
MrObsessive replied to David G.'s topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
If you want even more detail with an easier time of mods...........check out the AMT '67 Chevy Impala. It has separate frame rails and would be very close to what you'd want. Some lengthening would be needed as the Olds was a bit longer than the Chevy. With the separate frame however, this should be pretty easy to accomplish. -
Hi Brian.............Yes it's too cold here especially in Central PA! I got kinda burned out on building for awhile..........not to mention things are REALLY busy where I work with overtime kicking in and all. I've also got chiropractor appointments a couple times a week due to tailbone pain (it's working BTW) so there just hasn't been much time for building. I may start something new (resin) to get the building mood started again........hopefully I can get the 'Merc buttoned up by the end of the month. Beside the interior, there isn't much more to add the build. Thanks for asking!

Real Or Model #123 Finished!
MrObsessive replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
Yup! That was the first clue to me that this was real. Not to mention the weatherstripping/window channeling and the headliner........something that most modelers don't include when making a replica stock. -
WOW! Very Nice! Where did you get that? Details please!

Real Or Model #123 Finished!
MrObsessive replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
Nothing that anyone has said is the reason I voted real. It's another one of those subtle yet glaring cues that to me is a giveaway. If I'm right, I'll also state why on Friday! -
Real Or Model #123 Finished!
MrObsessive replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
I'm saying definitely real! I see some details that really set it apart from a model...........plastic or diecast. -
Attention !
MrObsessive replied to disabled modeler's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Also a good reason to have more than one email address. I have at least six if I include my work email. Close friends and family get one (One that goes into my Windows Mail), brick and mortar businesses as well as internet businesses, get one of five others. That way if the spam/viruses/nonsense start, it goes more than likely to the web based one and not my PC based email. I've also had to warn folks recently about sending attachments or emails where they want you to pass on this or that to ten people or whatever. VERY DANGEROUS TO DO IN THIS CLIMATE!! I instantly send those to the cyber bit bucket if I see such an email sent to me! I recently had to get rid of a annoying virus that infected my desktop PC.............thankfully I had everything backed up (Carbonite), and was able to retrieve everything. For those of you not backing up your files in some way, you're just asking for trouble sooner or later! -
I LOVE the 458 Italia! Nice to see that one being kitted! The addition of the Austin Healey is great too--------missed out on that one years ago.

1961 Chevy Impala, Bel Air Super Stock Chassis
MrObsessive replied to Porky's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Looks clean as a whistle Eric! Beautiful casting! -
Another vote here for Ambroid Pro Weld! I've used this for years now and have never had a problem with it losing its potency over time. Tenax for me was notorious for doing that, but it's sad to see another choice go by the wayside.

Aaaahh!! Absolutely beautiful!! Every time I see one of these in scale, it brings back many fond memories of my 1:1 '69 which also had a 390 + 4spd. Many gallons of high test burned in that one running the streets here in Central PA! Where did you source the engine? I have a couple '69 Johan AMX's (as well as a '70) and the engine is very incorrect. Also the chassis looks very detailed with the separate exhausts......very nice!

Editing a post
MrObsessive replied to Zoom Zoom's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I did a little "test drive" with a number of the skins and I like the IP-Duo the best. Nice colors, user friendly buttons, and none of the issues some of the other guys have been having. I think I'll stick with this one! -
Hi Thom, and welcome! I'm also a fan of vintage racers and the C-Type is one of my favorites out of the '50's. Except for a number of 1/43rd scales, I know of no models being done in 1/24-25th. Model Factory Hiro may have one on their drawing board as they do some fantastic vintage racers.......but expect to pay big $$$ if one ever turns up on the hobby shelves.

How do I get the old format back
MrObsessive replied to a topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Rich, I'm on Firefox as well and the problem may be where the pics are hosted. I use Fotki for just about all my photos and they automatically get resized when they're placed here. However pics hosted from Photobucket aren't reduced for whatever reason..............I don't know of a change to fix it though.
