Hi Ryan!! When I started to work on the door hinges I was having trouble to make some decen finish under the fenders so I decided to remove them and redo the whole firewall to a more clean look. -

1949 Mercury Project - Update April 27 2012
Luis Ayala replied to Luis Ayala's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Thanks Ron !!! It will be a Replica Stock. I am trying to keep it as close as possible to the real car. It looks like it is going for a custom look since I shaved the trim on the outside because it was uneven and I didn't like it. I am planning on using half round styrene to make it as a separate piece. That is the reason why you can still see the mold line on the body for the cast trim, it will serve as a guide for the height of the new one. -

Hi Steve !!! That seat looks great !!!! I was planning on using a donor front seat from a 53 Victoria to modify it and do somthing like that. I am using reference pics from a full resto I found on the web but your tip will save me a lot of work. -

I started this project about a year ago hoping to get it done by November 2011 to show it at our Caribbean Scale Auto annual event, but due to work, family and other duties I have been away from the hobby, so It will continue to be a long term project for November 2012. A few weeks ago I decided to step down a little bit from work and fight some time back for my own health sake to get back to the workbench every other day. I pulled the kit back from the projects shelf and sanded, cleaned & primed all the parts to test fit and look for scratches & flaws. Even though I still have some minor problems with my vision (need a new pair of glasses) I am using a new working light that has made the job more easier. This is the link to the complete album of the build: http://public.fotki....ercury-project/ Below are some pics with the rims & tires installed to a closer stance where I wanted to be. It still needs a ton of work but I am having a lot of fun and I am very happy with the results so far. Hope you like it and thanks for looking !!

Finally I managed to finish this one and get some outside pics. It is not as accurate as it should be for a replica stock, but it did turned out real nice and I am very happy with the results. I really enjoyed this kit and after a year off building, I believe this is a good start for me. Hope you like it and Thanks for looking.

Thank you all for your comments !!! I had a very busy weekend, but was able to spent some time to finish the interiors. After some trouble mixing the paints to get the two tone shades I wanted, decided not to waste more time and go with a single shade to move forward. The color is brown leather and just added some minor BMF details and the kit dashboard decals. Hope you like it and thanks for looking !

Thank you all for your comments !!!! I will post more pics when the interiors are done.

Hello !!! It has been more than a year since my last build, but I am having some spare time and slowly getting back on track. About two weeks ago I was doing some cleaning on my Hobby Room and found this started project. The engine & chasis were already assembled and the body was prep for paint so I painted it & polished it. It will take me some time to build something decent again due to some vision problems I am experiencing, but nothing a new pair of glases can't handle. Sorry about the pics quality, my camera battery was drained and there was no much light but I will post better pictures soon. Hope you like it and thanks for looking,

1970 Camaro built by one of my best friends !!!
Luis Ayala replied to Luis Ayala's topic in Model Cars
Thank you all for your comments!!! I am glad you like it, I really enjoyed this beautiful piece and believe me I wish I had a better camera to get closer pics of the interior. I just spoke with Edwin and he wants to thank you all for taking some time to review the post and comment his work. I believe that attention to the little details is what makes a build stand out and Edwin did a beautiful job on this one. Again thank you for taking some time to review the post and comment his work. He is working in a couple of projects so you will see more of his work very soon. -
It's been months since the last time I put my hands on the bench, but today I stopped by to share some pics I took of a 1970 Camaro built by one of my best friends, Edwin Maldonado. The Car is painted in original Chevrolet Mulsanna blue poly color, with white painted stripes, top coated with Tamiya clear and polished. The engine is a Chevy 454 with raised plenum, dual carbs and wired ignition. The headers are scratchbuild from soldering wire and the front and rear suspensions were lowered and modified to fit the wheels & tires. Rear wheels & tires were cut and slimmed down to keep the factory wheel wells. Interior is painted flat white with fabric decals from scalemotorsports. The interior is also dressed up with photo-etched gauges & painted wood details. It also has photo etched grill, exterior emblems, door handles, locks, hood pins, etc. I really enjoyed this beautiful piece today and that is one of the best things about this hobby, you can always enjoy it by just sitting near a good friends workbench… Hope you like it and thanks for looking!!!
