  1. Tom, so far I've only used Brass Metalizer as an undercoat for the Kandys. I've used it under HOK Brandywine, Tangerine, and Organic Green Kandy colors and it's come out great each time. I think the Brass is the most reflective of the Metalizer shades, so the effect the most dramatic. I've also tested Aluminum under the same Kandys and the effect is a little "cooler". Be sure to use the Non-Buffing Metalizers. The Buffing shades leave a sort of powder that's meant to be buffed off, leaving a shinier metallic finish. I've always been concerned I'd never be able to get all that powder off before I started laying down my Kandy colors. Hope this helps.
  2. Crazy Jim, it was great to meet you. I am truly a believer in the benefits of SHINY! Hope to see you next year in Loveland. For what it's worth, I spoke to one of the organizers of next year's show and he swore there would be more room for the automotive categories. We'll have to wait and see, but I'm hopeful.
  3. First of all, thanks for all the kind words. I just got back from the IPMS Nationals in Orlando and the positive vibes must have helped because the '55 got a First place in its category. David, to answer your question, I've been using Testors Metalizer as an undercoat for HOK Kandy colors for a while and have never had a problem. I like to use them because they don't have any "sparkly" flakes that look out of scale like some other lacquer metallic colors. I use automotive primer and sealer coats under the Metalizer and so far it's worked great for me.
  4. Very Cool! And thanks for the reference pics. I just picked up the re-release of this kit and the pictures will be useful. Great Job!
  5. Nice work, Steve. One of my favorite cars.
  6. Really nice work, Felix. Great model overall, but the engine detail is outstanding.
  7. Looks great, Dave. I really like the finish. What paint did you use? Good Luck on the raffle!
  8. Really nice job, Kate!
  9. Thanks for the kind comments, guys. Skip, the chrome trim on the front fenders is BMF. The rest of the chrome comes with the kit.
  10. Here are some pics of a Monogram '55 Chevy I just finished. The model is mostly stock with some added engine wiring, Model Car Garage grill and scripts, and Pegasus wheels. Paint is House of Kolor Kandy Organic Green over Testors Metalizer Brass, along with HOK Black and Clear. Any comments, positive or negative, are welcome. Thanks for looking.
  11. Great build ... and great photography!
  12. Really nice build. Is that the Tamiya kit?
  13. Can't wait to see how your Manx turns out. Some of the ideas that have been mentioned have got my wheels turning. I finished a Manx about a month ago, but it's pretty much box stock. I may need to get another one and try to customize it. Good Luck on yours!
  14. Thanks again for all the kind words. Wilbert, the model is 1/24 scale and I got it from Hobby Link Japan. It's a fairly recent release, but I would expect it to hit the states before too long. I should apologize for the pics. As you can tell, I could never make a living as a photgrapher! The looked okay on my laptop, but when I viewed them on my iPad, they looked really dark. The next time I try this, I'll try to use more natural light as one person suggested.
  15. Thanks to all for the kind words. Luis, I liked the kit a lot, but you definitely have to take your time and plan ahead. Some parts like the engine cover need to be thinned at the edges so they fit flush with the rest of the body. Also, after a couple of costs of paint, a lot of parts needed to be sanded or drilled so they fit correctly. Most of these issues apply to any kit, but seemed to be especially the case on this one. Larry
  16. Here are some pics of the Fujimi Lambo Aventador. Built box stock, paint is House of Kolor Sunrise Pearl with HOK Clear. All comments are welcome. Thanks for looking.
  17. First time post to this group, but I've been following it for a long time. I'm blown away by the quality of the work from the modelers here. Here are some pics of my Myers Manx. Built pretty much box stock, but I added some engine wiring, seat belts and instruments. Paint is Testors One-Step Lime Ice with One-Step Clear. The paint is great, but the metal flakes would be a bit big for my taste for anything but a dune buggy or a bass boat. Comments, good and bad, are welcome. Thanks for looking.
