Just bought Moebius 65 Satellite
High octane replied to Nova-ss's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You know how it goes Harry, people complain that they want this kit made or that kit made, and then when they get the kit, more complaints 'bout anything and everything. Nothing ever changes. -
What "irked" me today was the price on a 1/2 oz. bottle of Testors Enamel paint at $3.99. With my 40% off coupon at Hobby Lobby it still cost me $2.57 "out the door." WOW! The price of poker has gone up.

Yet another paint question re: clear coats
High octane replied to Roadrunner's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Yep, I think that I have been the problem all along. I also did a half hearted airbrushing test on an old hulk, using the spray bomb paints, and with some thinning, believe that may be a better way to go in the long run, but I'm still experimenting. An interesting approach, and exactly how I managed to botch three paint jobs in a row, although as I now believe, it was "operator error" all along, and no fault of the paints themselves, though the Testors cans do leave something to be desired. Next up, I'll use the wet look clear, and see if I notice any discernible difference. I'm havin' fun now! I did say that it works for me and I don't expect everyone else to do it my way either. So far I guess I've been lucky as I can't remember when the last time I had to strip a paint job to do over. I also don't seem to have any problems with Testors, Tamiya, Dupli-Color, Black Gold, or MCW cans either. Again, it may just be my luck? -
The reason for the blue Hemis, is that Jake King was once a Ford man and when he worked for S & M he painted all their Hemis Ford blue.

Yet another paint question re: clear coats
High octane replied to Roadrunner's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
While many builders rely on the "spoon method" of testing paint colors, primers, clears, etc. and it is a great idea, I myself just "shoot from the hip" meaning from the can to the model and so far it seems to work for me. -
Hey guys, the AMG meeting is THIS Friday night, so I hope to see many of you there.

I'm in the same boat Mike as I just sold some kits this past Sunday at a small swap meet. The swap space was free, which was even better and I didn't buy anything either. I'm plannin' on buyin' the new Satellite and the upcoming Model A roadster. Will you be havin' a table at the Du Page show in Wheaton in Sept.?

Definitely install plug wires on that Hemi Thomas, as it makes it look so much better. I almost bought a 1:1'70 Coronet, but passed on it for some reason or other. I still love dem Mopars!

Gasser escape hatches?
High octane replied to Roadrunner's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
It is NOT an escape hatch at all. It is the padded top area just like on some Deuce bodies. -
Nice job on both the builds Hugh, but being "old school" you couldn't give me two late model Challengers for one older one.

Yes Lance they are die-cast cars made or distributed by RSC Collectibles, and the box of the Grumpy Camaro was even autographed by Grumpy himself.

I wouldn't hold my breath on Round 2 re-issuing any boat kit in the near or distant future. While I'm lucky enough to have 'bout five boat kits in my stash, I still am lacking the motivation to build them. Altered States has a great lookin' 90's canopied hydro which would look really good built up. Altered States makes great products and has good service as well. If you do pick up this boat kit, be sure to do your research on it before you start building.

What pleased me today was goin' out to dinner with my better half and another couple. Great company, great food, lots of laughs.

Wow, you DO like Camaros don't you? Very nice collection, and I have the Grumpy's Camaro in 1/24th scale as well as the Rat Pack 1 Camaro also.

Wow Joe, that's a lot of Mopars, and nice ones too! Wish I'd get off my duff and build some of my Mopar kits, instead of the projects that I've got on my bench right now. I just love dem Mopars!

General Lee Decals??
High octane replied to Mike Chernecki's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I believe it was the '69 Riviera kit. -
Again I have to agree; most of this garbage just adds additional expense to cars that are all too frequently too expensive to begin with, and I personally have no use for all this gadgety junk. I agree with you Kevin as I'm lookin' to buy a truck next year. Look what the dealers have in the way of trucks these days, more doors, small box, 4 x 4, loaded to the gills with accessories, and price tags of 40, 50, 60, & 70 thousand dollars. That is scary and I see lots of them on the road today.

High octane replied to Mr Stock's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Yes, a Hemi is a Hemi so go for it. -
General Lee Decals??
High octane replied to Mike Chernecki's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Then you can get the wheels out of a Riviera kit. -
Motivation, wish I could find some.
High octane replied to Petetrucker07's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Amen. I put all my stuff away, and even thought about selling off every bit of it. After a week or two, I got the old spark back, and was back building in about a month. Its hard to gauge the ebb and flow of what motivates hobbies sometimes, and we all go through slumps, but we all find a way to pick up the brush and glue again. Its in our blood. We all share this strange addiction called "modeling" Thought about selling off your models, tools, parts, paints, etc. DON'T do it! Box everything up and put them in the corner or something, but DON'T get rid of your modeling stuff. I did back in 1990 only to find myself starting all over 'bout 7 or 8 years down the road. Boy was I ever sorry. Even if you're in a slump for a few months, at least you'll have your stuff and you can pick up where you left off, or even start a new project. -
Those were great times Ken, great times.

High octane replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You hit the nail on the head Dave when you said: "put your money up." My thoughts exactly.
