  1. Scary stuff. My niece lives in Chico and is only 2 miles from the fire fortunately the fire did not travel in her direction. Hopefully there are no fatalities. All this destruction caused by one idiot.
  2. I agree Dave. Any issue with critical code like this can be disastrous. However an interesting point was that there were companies that were not directly affected by the issues but had other vendors who were with the end result being that were affected.
  3. Interesting article. https://www.msnbc.com/opinion/msnbc-opinion/crowdstrike-outage-safety-update-rcna163127
  4. I rarely answer calls from numbers I don't recognize. If it's important they will leave a message. As said the sad thing there are people who get taken by these scams all the time.
  5. It's a scam that's been around for a while.
  6. The biggest problem these days is the attitude that if it doesn't work we can fix it later. However in this case the effort to get it right is a huge maginude less effort than implementing the fix. It reminds me of an old adage "act in haste and repent at leisure ".
  7. Yup. Hey what possibly could go wrong... I worked for an outfit that did laser printers. We had an issue that there was no check to see if the update file had been properly loaded to the printer. We bricked a few printers and then the download had a check to see if the file was good.
  8. Exactly. Been looking at a couple of analysis about this issue. It's going to take several weeks to fix this. Becuase of the nature of the problem the fix will need to be implemented manually.
  9. Whether it's incompetence or malevolence the end result is the same. Pure chaos.
  10. Understanding the case of a failure is important to preventing it happen. This is a great example.
  11. Makes me think of Gilligan's Island(a 3 hour tour).
  12. Sorry to hear about your issues Carl. When you talk about a holder for engines is it for detailing? I think a thread in the general section for aids would be useful. I'm sure there are some great ideas out there.
  13. My sister and husband came home today as their evacuation order was lifted. I'm also off evacuation warning.
  14. So my sister and her husband came back home today as the extraction order was lifted. Butte county has canceled all fireworks displayed and banned the safe and sane usage also. When they came through town there was afireworks stand open. She calls the sheriff's office and was told they the fireworks can still be sold although they can't be used. That's got to be the stupidest thing I've heard.
  15. Yesterday afire started here in Oreville. At this point I'm under evacuation warning and my sister is under evacuation order. Car is packed up and ready to go if I need to bug out. I hope and pray all goes well today. I hope and pray all of the brave firefighters are safe fighting the first and there are no fatalities for any people living in the area. Possessions can be replaced however people can't be. Gotta say this has been quite a year. Hopefully today will turn out well. I made it through my health issues and hopefully I will have a positive outcome with the fire situation.
  16. Ten days of 100 +weather. Red flag warning till next Tuesady. A couple of alerts for fires. So of course firewok sales are still allowed. Huh?
  17. I really doubt he is ever going to race again. I can't see that the doctors are going to clear him. This wasn't a simple concussion.
  18. https://www.nhra.com/news/2024/john-force-moving-forward-recovery-process Well John won't be back in the car this year and may have to retire. He's got a long road to recovery.
  19. Unfortunately this is the case here. The downward spiral started when Source Interlink bought the Petersen titles. More ads appeared and there were how ti articles that were thinly veiled ads. I couldn't believe when Rod and Custom dropped the sketch pad pages. They were one of the features I looked forward to.
  20. Site has been slow to load off and on today.
  21. Don Garlits also had to stop racing for a while becuase the g forces were causing the potential of detached retina. Sounds like John suffered a concussion. He may not retire becuase of this however I doubt he's going to be back in the car this season.
  22. Was scheduled to have a followup visit for my hernia surgery. I had been told it was the same place as my other doctors offices are. I get the appt confirmation call and it turns out it's in the clinic . I canceled the appt and will schedule when the surgeon is in the other facility. No way am I going to sit in a cramped waiting area and take the risk of catching something when I'm just visiting getting back on my feet.
  23. What FSM has become is no great surprise. I'd got the early issues and the mixture of genres compares to what is in FSM now. If the automotive content was going to increase they would have to add pages. What killed the magazines is that the content provided does not match the cost. The new HOT Rod quarterly demonstrates that. Rodders Journal was slightly.more and the content justified the price.
  24. Hope your back issues will go away quickly. Being in pain really ruins your day.
  25. Personally I wouldn't use 2k clear. Regular paints can.be harmful if you don't protect yourself but the 2k is even more hazardous. I'd want adequate protection and a good spray booth designed to filter the air exhausted. As said polishing and lacquer paints can produce a great finish with reasonable effort.
