Sorry to hear about Pat. I had the pleasure of meeting him at the GSL. He was very funny. My condolences to his family and friends.

A modelers obituary thread
bobthehobbyguy replied to bobthehobbyguy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks for making the addition. At least this way the notices won't get drown out by all the post in off topic. I agree with too many celebrity death posts. In my opinion most of what posts to off topic clutters the board and is not why I come to the board. -
Here is the notice about Bruce Owen passing. What stories can you tell about meeting him.

A modelers obituary thread
bobthehobbyguy replied to bobthehobbyguy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The modelers obituaries are more likely to be seen in general than the off topic. There is 3 times the traffic for general. The off topic is the catchall for everything that isn't car or hobby related. The modelers obituaries should not fall into that category. -

Glad to see that there are a few people that get my point. -
A modelers obituary thread

Not true. From the general header General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars) For general model car hobby or 1:1 automotive related topics ONLY. Both trucks and cars are appropriate topics. Which makes this the more appropriate spot for obituaries of modelers. -
A modelers obituary thread

That is just plain sad. It is something that needs to be pinned. The recent passing of Bruce Owen shows that relegating the modeler obituaries to the off topic is not acceptable. He was one of the premier modelers. He dominated the MPC contests and won a GSL best in show. His passing was barely noticed in the clutter of the off topic lounge. We need to preserve the legacy of the hobby. Doug Whyte has been videoing modelers for future reference. We need to acknowledge their accomplishments. A pinned topic in general will put the accomplishments of those who passed in the spotlight. As said we need to make sure the digital archives are preserved. We aren't getting any younger. -

A great idea. We need to preserve the legacy of the hobby of those that contributed so much. Rather than have their passing lost in the noise of the off topic lounge. -

Hey but all those vapers will have a new hobby down the road. Dr visits from all the illnesses from vaping.

He was last on June 28th. He mentioned he was working on his 1:1 car in one of his posts.

Nicely done. Looks great to me. You're too critical of your own work Ray. Great concept and execution.

Sad news indeed. I had the pleasure of meeting Bruce at one of the MPC finals in Ohama. I also meet him at the GSL he took best in show. His entry was a tour de force of scratch building. My condolences to his family and friends. -

But the other side of the coin is the consumer whose sole focus is how cheap can I buy it regardless of any other considerations.
