MCM Ohana (6/6)

  1. In looking at my stash of unbuilt kits and my build rate, I really have to start thinning the herd. I've prioritized what I want to build and those lower in priority are going to go "on the block". Two kits that I have decided to let go are somewhat rare plus include detail parts. The two are the Tamiya Aston Martin DBS with multiple detail up sets and the Aoshima AMG Mercedes SL-65 Black Series Coupe with optional PE detail set. Not yet sure of what I would like in trade other than it be commensurate with the values of the offered kits.
  2. The kit never came with any decals. So, not just the seat insert design, but dash detail and wood trim are also up to you. Not all Lorinsers came with the scatter upholstery but it kind of unique. I was going to craft it when I do mine, but it is not on the schedule any time soon.
  3. Obviously, I blurred them out for privacy.
  4. I used the ribbon in a Gofer seatbelt set that I won at a show raffle. It also included the GM buckles. To add depth the buckles, I added Evergreen Channel Strip.
  5. Well, I’ve finally finished this after some real-life interruptions. As previously noted, this is a model of my first car that I bought from my parents. It was a 1965 Chevrolet Impala SS Coupe in Silver Mist Blue with Black Interior and Vinyl top. The engine was a 327 CI 300 HP V8 with Powerglide Automatic Transmission. That’s how they got it, not how I would have liked to spec it. The only things I did to it was add aftermarket slip on headrests, Firestone Red Stripe Tires and Cragar SS Fronts and Chrome Reverse Rears (I would have love Cragars all around but was at my budget limit). I included the only photo I have found of the car depicting my Father and my brother’s girl friend (Mom took the photo) on some unremembered trip I did not go on. To replicate the car, I started with the Monogram 1965 Impala SS Coupe. I then had to convert the model from a Big Block Chevy to Small Block and delete the Air Conditioning. I also needed to add the vinyl top. To help in the conversion, I used the Revell 1964 Impala Small Block engine which has a Powerglide and used parts of the Center Console from that kit to convert the 1965 Console from Manual to Automatic. I also used the Model Car Garage Detail Set along with a Last Detail decal set for 65/67 Impalas. Here’s the specifics of what I did. Interior: Adapted center console to automatic using parts from Revell 64 Chevy and scratch built a mount for the clock that was on it. Removed the power window pieces and added manual window cranks. Added seat belt hardware. Scratch built the slip-on headrests. Detailed the interior. Engine: Detailed the engine for a 300 HP version including valve cover labels. Added oil and transmission dipsticks (non-working) Altered the firewall to remove the A/C components. Chassis: Modified engine/transmission mounts for the small block and made necessary driveline changes. Modified the dual exhausts to fit the small block Ram Horn stock headers. Did a basic chassis detailing. Here are some photos of the completion. Still need to do a little more cleanup.
  6. At yesterday's club meeting, a past participant showed up with a collection he acquired in the late 90's. The way he got them was the original owner had taken them out of the boxes, cut the parts from the trees and put them in Zip-Loc bags. Downside is that you have no idea if all there just hoping it is. Upside, he was giving them away FREE. Just wanted to clear out some space. Anyway, I chose these three. I'll eventually inventory them but may not build them. Just thought these were the most interesting to me.
  7. Pretty much all I have left in those categories are these DTM cars
  8. Thanks for the update. Only the Revuelto and perhaps the Vette would be on my acquisition list.
  9. I opened up my two original issues and neither was exhibiting any "sweating" of the tires.
  10. Nope. I was going to use sized tape or perhaps create a decal. I have woodgrain and instrument decals in the stash that I can cobble together.
  11. Have one as well. Remember, there IS NO decal sheet with it. You will have to cobble together what you might want as in instrument cluster, etc.
  12. The Revell 68 does not come with the custom interior. But the "Rosewood" wheel was a common add on for sportier versions, including the Z/28. So, either version will work. Here is the interior on my 69 Pace Car (which has the custom interior).
