First, there are likely two possibilities for the Revell 250 GTO. On is the 1/25 Aurora repackaged many times in Monogram/Revell hands. This is the version I have sitting down in the stash There is a decent level of engine, chassis and interior detail. The doors, hood and trunk are plastic hinged and open/close. The body is the sad point as it is misshaped, starting off as being a 260 GT SWB and then converted to GTO Body. The second option, and most likely, is the reboxed Protar 250 GTO in 1/24. Again, lots of detail, but body has some issues, mainly being the rear section being too flat and squared off. This was supposedly due to them measuring a poorly repaired car (never been able to fully substantiate that but there is some history on that chassis number). The window posts are a bit thick as well to allow for the opening (but acceptable). I don't know if Revell kept them, but eh Protar tires are very poor. Here is the Protar one down in my stash: The Fujimi is a more recent plastic kit of the 250 GTO and considered to be pretty accurate. There has been debate if the Italeri or Fujimi is more accurate, but I have not spent any time on determining my viewpoint. Being hand built; each GTO was a little different. If you want to build to build a specific chassis, you'd need to research that. If doing a generic GTO, then Fujimi is the closest body wise. The Fujimi has good detail, and there is a lot of aftermarket available for it for even more. Noting opens but the hood on the Fujimi kit and you would have to expend the effort to open it all up if you want that. Here is my Fujimi kit in the stash (and the Italeri just for reference). Depending on who you read, anywhere from 500 to 600. They were not built for street but for racing. Available details have been sketchy in the research I did a few years back. In planning for Avanti build I decided to go for an LS or LT engine and add an IRS to it as well as front end improvements.

They were not magnesium; those were special order for racing applications. The stock 1968 Camaro came with steel DF Rally Wheels 15"x6" painted argent silver with chromed trim ring and center cap. I don't have a part number on them anymore and some online part numbers are for the 15x7 in version. The DF wheel was oriented to the Z28 to allow offset for the front calipers.

This is the first, and likely the last, Gasser model I am doing. The club has a theme for our March contest for Gassers, per NHRA pre-1973 rules (fortunately a member posted them). Drag Racers in general are not in my wheelhouse, as I normally do road racing or the occasional rally car. But, I had won the Gasser kit as a door prize, so decided to tackle it. The kit is not a new molding and has some "issues". Not the least of which is the poor representation of the Ford SOHC engine. So, I decided to make some corrections, including a new engine. Out of a variety of engine choices, I elected to use the Texas 3D Customs blown 409 engine. It is nicely detailed including an alternator with drive belt. Morgan Automotive Detail provided the wired distributor along with Model Car Garage looms. To use this engine I had to craft a new cross bar for the transmission and recess a section of the firewall for fit. I also had to put a dent/cleft in the upper part of the recess section to get the dashboard to fit. I am still finishing the engine detailing and getting ready to fit the chassis to the interior. I am adding some linkage for the carbs and fuel lines with block. A coil has been added to the firewall and I have a fuel pump with filter ready to install. For the body, I elected to use Tamiya TS-41 Coral Blue. This was done with the Shaker can. I applied the decals I wanted use, a combination of Slixx, STS, Gofer and Decals by Lucas. I then covered with Tamiya TS-13 Gloss Clear (again Shaker can). Wheels and tires came from AMT Parts Packs as I was not enamored with the kit offerings. Next steps will be finishing the engine detail, joining the chassis and interior, finishing the interior and final assembly. Here are some photos of the To-Date progress:

Evergreen plastic sheet and strips. I did a paper template and then shaped to fit, including drilling the holes. Calibre 35 resin bolts added for detail. Real car: The fabrication: Paper template Card stock tracer Rough form in place End result

I scanned the kit decals at max res on my scanner. I then used a CorelDraw trace function to convert to vector. I found the RGB codes for Hugger Orange and applied to the orange color areas of the decal. Finished it off with printing on my Laser printer with Clear decal paper (going over white so no issue).

Took a little research to scratch build

Well, I am calling it done. But as I was posting this, I discovered I forget to add the front chin spoiler. So, a little added step besides more dusting of the model. Even though the humidity is fine in the house, and I run a HEPA filter in the hobby room, this model seems to attract dust like a magnet. Anyway, a quick recap of work: Chassis: Corrected to convertible style with center ribbing and chassis plate. Fit a Revell 68 Firebird exhaust to fit chassis changes. Detailed it out. Engine: Detailed out with wiring and plumbing. Revised accessories to add smog and power steering pump in correct placement Added smog pump lines to exhaust manifolds. Added non-working dipstick in correct location. Interior: Detailed out the interior. Added front vents and radio grill on dashboard top (used parts from MCG C1 Corvette PE set) Painted Hugger Orange as real car. Added seat belt hardware as in the real car. Added "wood" trim decals to reflect real car. Revised grab handles for realism. Crafted front and rear floor mats. Engine Bay: Detailed out. Added missing radiator cap (not in kit). Added warning stickers on radiator shroud top. Body: Cleaned up and detailed with Model Car Garage PE Set. Added fixed radio antenna using carved base and insect mounting pin. Adjusted setting of front RS grille to reflect real car. Opened the grille. Using kit decals as templates, created new decals in proper Hugger Orange color. Wheels and Tires: Used AMT Parts Pack Goodyear Polyglas GT White Lettered tires. Opened the wheel slots. Added valve stems. detailed out the wheels. Here are some photos of the (I thought) finished model (I'll add the spoiler this weekend).

I use a small dab of CA glue. I also glue a small bit of Evergreen strip sized to fit under the lock to give it some depth.
