You can have your cake and eat it, too. I do build for contests (ask Rich Manson) and I also build stuff for my shelves, just for the sake of building. Sometimes, the contest builds can get to be like work; they can be time-consuming and at times, seem to be more trouble than they're worth. For example, my current '68 Road Runner project has been in the works, on-and-off, for almost two years. I have 54 detail images on my phone alone (and I have deleted some); I have many more images on our home laptop, as well as many handwritten pages of notes and a good supply of Mopar magazines for that build. But, waiting on the same shelves is a relatively box-stock '40 Ford and a P-38 with warp nacelles in lieu of the booms. There are times when I feel that if the previous build was good, then the next should be better, so it's a personal challenge- that can be applied to shelf models, too. Alas, shelf models can be entered in contests, too. However... I build for the sake of creating scale replicas of mechanical contrivances that I enjoy, be they automotive, aircraft, armor, etc. I appreciate the art, engineering and history behind the subjects. I will never, ever be able to acquire 99.99999% of those subjects in real life, so I do the next best thing, and I can add my own personal touches whenever and however I choose. Creativity and imagination are two valuable tools for any modeler. No matter what or how I build, I will never stop building for myself.

Nope, snap kits are cool, even when one has been building for 54+ years. -

Very cool. I would open the wheelwells, but follow the original shape as close as possible. -

Luis, those headers are for the Hemi. They won't line up with the exhaust ports on the wedge.

If I remember correctly, the headliner on my '67 wagon was not cloth, but a hard material, with almost a pegboard "feel", and zillions of tiny holes. Did the '68s have soft headliners?

Highway- well, I guess you don't get it either. Your loss, not mine. Maybe one day, you will. Have a good weekend. -
That's why the evening news programs end with a "human interest" story that leaves the viewers feeling all warm and fuzzy, after all the bad news they just saw, You never see them start with a story about... pilots flying rescue dogs to new homes, and end with a cop shoots perp or drunk crashes car into crowd story.

Well, if you look at the situation that way, we should get rid of many prime-time TV shows, movies, books and magazines and graphic novels... We never heard of so many public killings of any kinds- shootings, knife rampages, whatever- before the '90s because we didn't have access to the entire world via the Internet before then. There were also far fewer media news sources before then; now, we have access to just about anything that happens from all over the world just about instantaneously, in bold, graphic color, with commentary and opinion. Things happened before the "digital era" to which you refer, we just didn't hear about it to the extent which we do now.

Uh... if you say so, I'll agree with that. Besides, I'm getting a headache from the back-and-forth and switching screens... -
Wow, that blue BRZ looks almost too real. Very cool and smooooooooth. Now I gotta seriously consider a whole new build genre.

From the Board Rules and Guidelines: 2) Personal attacks will not be tolerated. We believe that encouraging and/or constructive criticism can help, but putting a person down does not accomplish anything for the community. Also, flaming, name calling, and off-color cartoons, images, or content are NOT permitted. (Italics mine) -

Perhaps, you should check out the post to which I refer. And, if you "don't care", why are you reading these posts in the first place? "Outstanding? Seriously? You don't see a problem with how the disc-brakes are sitting outside of the wheels instead of within them? & the exhaust pipes just floating underneath the chassis?": In one member's post, to another, about a third person's model. -

I'm not sure why some of you think that I'm advising that only "attaboys" be posted. How many times have I referred to "constructive criticism" in my previous posts? From Businessdictionary.com: A recommended set of instructions that aims to collaboratively improve the overall quality of a product or service. Often containing helpful and specific suggestions for positive change, From dictionary.com: Constructive criticism: noun criticism or advice that is useful and intended to help or improve something, often with an offer of possible solutions From Collins English dictionary: constructive (kənˈstrʌktɪv ) Definitions adjective serving to build or improve; positive ⇒ constructive criticism And, I referred to being "courteous" to other modelers. "Attaboys"? No, not hardly. Respect and dignity for others (including one's self; re, the politician to whom I referred) : Yes. -

You just don't get it, Harry. Not at all. We attended a public forum for the candidates a few weeks ago. Two had their turns with opening statements, answering questions, etc. The challenger lead his closing remarks, regarding the incumbent's past performance, with: "...to put it in legal terms, it just sux." I don't know about you , but that is no way to conduct oneself with courtesy in a public forum. That person could have used different terminology, rephrased it or however you want to put it, and gotten the same point to the public without the spectacle, and without coming across as a boorish lout. He lost. "...be courteous to others"- that's from Gregg's rules regarding this forum (italics mine) Now, go back and read the posts about the Charger again; maybe you'll see what I mean. -

Harry, how about if the person who posts just ASKS for comments, critiques, etc, instead of just assuming that his or her build might just be trashed in public? It happens, and it's not right. Picture being at a contest and hearing one modeler pointing at another modeler's build as he or she yammers away about the paint or chrome or engine details or whatever. OUT LOUD, FOR ALL TO HEAR. Yeah, that's mature and desired. Uh-huh. You didn't address the fact that some people don't want their shortcomings pointed out in public in a very adult manner. Go back thru the posts regarding the Charger and you'll see how this whole thing started. And, again, THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM, AS LONG AS IT IS PRESENTED IN A COURTEOUS MANNER. You seem to be missing that point. I expect it and have offered it myself, sometimes in a PM. Go back thru the posts regarding the Charger and you'll see what I mean. -
Normally, I'm not a big "Vette fan, especially drag 'Vettes, but this one is looking good. I'll be following.

Constructive criticism is a good thing, but some folks don't seem to grasp the fact that it can and should be delivered in a "courteous" manner (the quote is from the rules for the forum.) And, some people don't want to have "their" problems pointed out in public. Is that wrong? I fully agree with Art. -
Yep, that's coming along nice. You got me following now.
