  1. Granted, advertising is not cheap. But, how expensive are the small ads, similar in size to those that we see on this forum? Are they costly enough to make it impractical for the companies to have them on other sites or forums that younger people frequent? I do not game, nor Twitter, nor Pinterest, etc; I do nothing on line but this forum, Facebook, Fotobucket and some job sites, so I don't really know how it all works.
  2. The modelcars link above showcases decals by Tommy Logan at Speedway Decals. I used a set of his tire decals on my '68 Road Runner; you can see them in my "on the workbench" post. They're good stuff; I would not hesitate to use those products.
  3. Original issue Revell '67 Charger- not the current Foose edition.
  4. Or, stock up now... like getting all that bread and milk before the snowstorm.
  5. If you have never judged a contest, you would be amazed at what some people do enter. There are times when the lesser of two evils must be chosen for first place, when it should be down to the better of the good stuff.
  6. Yeah, and when you've seen some of them up close, in person... . Too many lose sight of the basics, especially when it comes to contests.
  7. Ditto. BUT- I have entered contests with unpainted Lindberg Dodge Dakotas and did OK with both. Well, the bodies were unpainted- except for flat black trim- just cleaned up, sanded, polished and waxed. The chassis and interiors were all painted.
  8. Yeah, that really looks nice, and the color combination is perfect.
  9. Yeah, those '70's and early '80's kits are doing well, mainly for nostalgic and historic reasons. Along came the mid-'90s and beyond...
  10. Google Images is useful here, and you can find those underhood decals, etc, from many cars. Save them, print them on decal material of photo paper, and use as needed. I have even used barely legible stencils and markings from 1/72 and 1/48 scale aircraft decals; many are good enough to fool the eye, unless one is using a magnifier to look under the hood.
  11. That's pretty cool- not only is your wife building, but it looks good. "We" got a snap Revell Mustang ragtop for my wife, and still, after all the shows that she's attended, I am the receiver of a funny look when I suggest she starts building it. Oh, well.
  12. The name "Rocket Bunny" generates some interesting images in my head
  13. There was a time when, do to the "smell" of the MEK that I used, I was relegated to the basement stairs... seems the smell bothered my older sister. From that, I learned that I could build just abot anywhere.
  14. As I was going thru my Dad's stuff in '07, I came across two bottles of Pactra paint that were bought at the local Woolworths who knows how many years ago. I think they have never been opened, and the paint is still liquid. One day soon, I will open them, and fully expect some pleasant flashbacks to younger days and innocent times...
  15. Me, too. Usually, got a "big" model for Christmas, like the Saturn V rocket, or the "Mad Maverick", and my Dad would get something like the Revell USS Constitution... Even my Mom built, on occasion- she once built a '57 Ford Country Squire, and the smell of drying Testors paint brings me right back to that time. Good memories .
  16. If I remember correctly, the Johan kit came with woody decals.
  17. Apply those logo/emblem/nameplate decals to a thin piece of clear sheet acrylic or whatever, let it dry, cut it out around the decal and apply to the body with some Future or clear paint. It gives the decal just enough of a lift over the body surface to add dimension. I read about this in an old issue of the other model car magazine and used it on my tow truck.
  18. Very nice. Something I'd like to own, in "real life".
  19. It was just a bit different when I worked at Grumman, but we still used X-acto knives, MEK and zinc chromate primer. Epoxy, too .
  20. Be prepared to spend money on whatever fees are necessary to keep that ship moored or tied up to a dock; then, add costs for the maintenance that it will require and 24/7/365 security.
  21. Tom, I decided to use the Pentastar plate on an original MPC Duster pro-stock kit that I got from Jerry many years ago in a swap. That will be built up into a super gas or bracket-type drag car; something that would have run against Jerry's "Vanilla Shake" Camaro. I found another, aftermarket plate to use on the 'runner. More pictures will follow as it progresses.
  22. As a rule, I don't like Camaros. BUT- this one is an exception. Looks really good to me and I'm digging the color. I have one suggestion- if you haven't given the struts/coilovers a black wash- it's hard to tell from the pictures- that would be a good thing, as it would add some dimension to the part; make it look like it's actually multiple pieces.
