This is my dream home I been working on. It is loosly based off the log home from "Legends of the Fall". There is strong Frank Lloyd Wright prairie styling in the doors and other areas. The kitchen is separated from the main house but there will be a heated walkway in the alcove between them (something different). The kitchen area would have been the first part of the cabin built for the living area when first settled. A lot of the floor plan will still be changed and the railings and posts for the wrap around porch need finished and a Victorian style tower will be added where the section of walls are missing in the back corner.

Awesome. I like the Taillight side trim treatment. Wish I could get that sheen on google sketchup.

It is a chore sometimes. Need to have an eye for where stuff needs to go next. And work on small pieces to make the whole. There are tutorials on youtube for it.

This is a car I downloaded but am cutting up to make a 1970 Cutlass 442. It started life as a Buick GSX. Hood is the first order of buisness. Then my Mil Spec HMMWV I plan to build after I build my rod shop.

I know I have told you guys before about this but here is another one I am working on now that I figured out how to make cars. I ts an 81 Chevy Blazer with a full interior, and detailed undercarriage, engine bay and guages. The motor is a supercharged 383 with an Allison 7 speed auto and Atlas 2 Transfercase which is why there are triple sticks on the floor.. Like I said it is WIP so small stuff like the exhaust from the Flowmaster Super 40s to the headers need finished. A close look reveals U joints and slip joints on the drive shafts.

How long does it take?
ARTEMIS1759 replied to ARTEMIS1759's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Yeah as an artist I know it varies quite a bit. I have seen some of those crazy detailed models which are sweet. I want to get into more fabricating with models. Maybe I should of asked what was the quickest and longest you have ever taken on a model. -
How long does it take?

Just curious how long you guys generally take to put a truck together. How much do you do a day? I do a couple parts a day but my Dad said he used to do 1 a week. Sometimes I wait a couple days. -
Hey the concept is there. Keep it up. I got a thread here somewhere but I have been drawing cars for about 23 years now since I was somewhere between 10 and 12. Been drawing since i was 6 or 7. I always learn new stuff. Until last year I always did a good job on them but they were never in perspective. I sent a sample to Thom Taylor (Yes the Thom Taylor of "How to Draw Cars Like a Pro") and he told me to trace cars from magazines to train my eyes to start putting everything in perspective and it was some of the best advice I have had. It worked. Now I am forced to draw them in perspective by my eyes or they don't look right. My first good drawing that I can still draw from the back of my mind is a 77 Chevy 4x4 Long Box with a lift. The reason is during one Christmas a family friend sketched out his 77 and gave it to me. I traced it over and over until the drawing was pretty much shot until one day I could draw it free hand. Stock up on rulers, french curves and templates. I freehand my drawings but refine them with these utensils to get that sharp edge automobile look. I am self taught and taught myself about 2 years ago to use art markers and oil paint. Any questions PM me and I will do my best to answer them. I am also using Google Sketchup to design my shop and various vehicles which can be found under dios since I plan to use the plans for a scale diorama.

That is sweet. It need the little robot to go around from a robo car wash lol.

So I won't repost but check out this link. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=49834 Started it during Flood Operations this summer and have been working on it religiously since. It is a to scale version of my Hotrod Shop I plan to build in the next couple years done with Sketch=up. Considering I didn't use the tutorials it isn't too bad I think. Enjoy and comment please. It is not finished but I am still hard at it.

Yeah I kinda figured that is how it would be Tony. I worked construction also and that was a nightmare,

Well, it's old school on self taught. Of course I can't practice as an architect but I do my own hand drawn blueprints and have all the stencils and can hand draw them. I can read blueprints of any type. I am also a military surveyor which is half architect half surveyor. I draw up all the electrical and HVAC on most of my buildings though I am sure they are probably not spot on they should be close. I love Architecture but love cars more. Almost went to school for it. Wasn't sure how to write it. No offense taken. That's cool Ed. I love Station Architecture have found a few pics like this in the bigger cities but yeah most were the Teague style. 4 bay is just to accomodate the shop.

Well, Andy lotsa practice. But the number 1 key is to get it to work you have to have everything perfectly square by measuring corner to corner because if not your windows and stuff won't line up correctly. I am also a self taught architect so that probaly helps.

Scratch build I guess which might not be too hard after I am done with college since part of the Hotrod course is Kustom Bike building. This dio will be also kind of a look at how my shop will look after all three phases are built. I will start on it about two years after college. This will be under construction for a while because I am building it on Google Sketchup in scale so it will be easier to build. The vehicles I am using right now may be a little out of scale since some were downloaded from sketchup gallery. But this may be a good tool for all you dio builders. Sign First is the front Got A Buick GNX near the sign, 50 Buick near the pumps, R33 Skyline outside the bay door, 50 Chevy 5 Window Pickup near other island, 55 Pete in far bay, 55 Chevy Gasser ib 3rd Bay and a Ducati 999 by pumps. In the showroom is a Bobber and outback is a 55 KW, the fastest Indian Motorcycle and a Model A Pickup waiting for some TLC. Showroom

I probably will not get around to it for a while but somebody should do one with either a barn find or a find in the back of a field with like a gravel road, barb wire fence and a 4x4 with two guys checking out a potential rod or resto or looking to scavenge parts. This is usually the scene when me and my dad are roaming the back roads in his 79 Chevy Blazer or my 93 Chevy Full Size Blazer. Grass only growing around the car and a few farm implements and building pieces since the cows keep it trimmed. My most recent experience was with a 59 Chevy 4 door with only a windshield and rusted "flintstone" floor boards (meaning only metal under the seats). Seats down to the springs and the driver side door fell off doue to the body being rusted around the hinges. A lot of people don't know this but if a car is alone in a field up here in the midwest more then likely they used it to chase cattle so if it has floor boards like my Dad's 59 Chevy 4 door they are pushed level with the seats from hitting rocks. They are fixed now of course.
