  1. i think he wanted you to "name names"
  2. I agree the effects should be consistent. the author of the reference article pretty much sums it up here: There is no one right answer to your modeling preferences.
  3. it's better than the "mens health threads" over on Britmodeler .....

  5. I wish kits were offered in "no-chrome" versions. a lot of folks strip & either spray or paint to get a distinct result. kit chrome sort of looks like, well, plastic.
  6. but would you concede that display situations very seldom exhibit real world (outdoor) light conditions? and that panel shading can help create those effects which are lost to artificial light and scale ?
  7. summer vacation wasn't complete without poison ivy and a tetanus shot
  8. I've never been a fan of shiney blobs of obscured detail paint jobs. always wondered why military & railroading modelers' techniques were so far away from automotive modeling. methinks you're on to something here as well as bringing the tribes closer together.
  9. zip tie the edges so when they get cruddy you can flip them for double duty?
  10. I miss Bob Paeth. he'd always go out of his way to add a little hobby history to his replies; great resource. and although I never met him, he seemed like a great guy, too.
  11. the other side of the coin.... if you're three quarters through a build and mess up, do you want to buy another kit to get the part, beg the forums and hope someone has it and you've got something he wants in trade, put the whole mess in the bin, or spend ten bucks on a part? it's all about choices. 28 flavors and all that.

  13. what holds the front end on the pavement?
  14. I'm of the "build then take apart & paint" and it is always a chess game which subassemblies get to stay and which to remove at the finishing stage. I just watched a youtube military modeler and he put everything together including cab glass before he started painting. it really is a model x model assessment. and the type/ style of build you're doing. I still contend 95% of the "weathered" vehicles being produced are cover-ups for good models gone awry in final assembly.
  15. found this one which could be civilianized I guess: http://www.pacmodelscatalog.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=PCM&Product_Code=TA+24-004&Category_Code=TAAK+1%3A24
  16. I paid $3.199 per gallon for gas yesterday and thought I was getting a bargain
  17. those tail lights dropped right in.
  18. it's got the right amount of chop
  19. 1 car length for every 10 mph. but cars were longer when I learned to drive.
  20. and a vise. ya gotta have a vise.
  21. it's good for "utilitarian" bonding. stuff that isn't necessarily seen. use it on the model railroad for benchwork & scenery. also use Loctite superglue for the same purposes. for models, I use liquid (Tamiya/ Plasti-weld ) & acc (zap-a-Gap) medium. dissimilar materials may get some BSI 5 minute or 1 hour epoxy. they all have their places.
  22. realizing I have mine own admonish-strator.
  23. mind that chain getting wrapped in the press, mate.
