AMT 1970 Baldwin Motion Camaro
Cool Hand replied to Aerodsedan's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Although its 1/24, the Revell 78 El-Camino has a nice set of S/S Cragars. -
Engine is looking the part Bob, was thinking you would have to remove the inner fenders to shoe horn the 572. 😄 Having no inner fenders, you could use some 3D printed upper A-arms and shocks parts for visual interest. Also could fit a smooth fire wall made from sheet styrene and install 3D printed brake booster.

Finished opening and cleaning up the cowl vents. As I have done on previous builds. I cut off the heads of the moulded in rivet detail on the over fenders and drilled holes for replacement detail with Top Studio 0.5mm metal rivets. First stage of body prep done. Block sanded with 800 grit wet and dry paper and followed that with 1000 grit Infini sanding sponge.

Hey Paul hoping to see this build completed. I plan to use this build thread as a how to and inspiration for my own 66 Malibu build which I will be starting next after my current Skyline build.

Any updates to this build ?? I can understand if it stalled, as I know what its like having so many irons in the fire 😄

Pretty much finished the engine bay work, final details were a scratch built brake booster/master cylinder and drilling a locating hole for the ignition coil. Finalized the shape of the radiator support panel, attached some tabs for a radiator I found in my spare parts stash and attached some tubing for hose fitment. Currently doing prep work on the body, scribing done. Opening up the cowl vents by removing material from behind.

Can be fun and games when changing wheels and adjusting the stance. Sometimes sacrificing under carriage detail is the only way to achieve the desired look. I do it all the time with my builds. Can have a super low stance and the engine, but dont worry about whats under neath and is never seen 😉

More work done building the engine bay, also 3D printed an L28 engine and got it painted and added some plug wires.

Couple weeks Autumn ends, so the cold winter weather is starting to set in. Time to switch hobbies and get back to painting miniatures.

The downside of the hobby - what annoys you?

Just have to try and keep very well organized with parts containers. Last count I have 24 bodies painted. Keeping track of that many kits can get a bit hectic 🤣 -

Having too many kit's and idea's can be somewhat annoying for me , as im always constantly distracted with new inspiration and changing what im working on. Sometimes I can remain focused long enough to see a build through to the end. But most times my bench is always in full rotation between projects. Oh well, at least im never bored 🤣 -
For me its all about being able to create visual representations of my favourite style of cars. Im not much for accuracy, as long as it looks the part, that is all that matters to me. Its good fun when the inspiration strikes and the mind starts processing and the build begins, digging through the stash or tracking down a kit. The most enjoyable part for me is the mock up stages, choosing wheels and getting the stance set. Recently I have really been enjoying painting bodies and trying out different colours other than black. Ive been very lucky and fortunate enough to have a dedicated hobby room, that is fully set up and well stocked with all my needs. Its like having my own small hobby shop. Thats my happy place where my mind is at ease and where I enjoy spending all my spare time doing something creative and every now and then put another one on the display shelf.

As long as you use a fine tooth blade it wont chip, and set the speed to medium where it will melt the plastic slightly. Test out your saw blade and rotary tool speeds on the clear parts sprue first. Also can test on the part of the glass you want to remove. Tape is a good idea for added protection. I dont use it as I like to see the edges of the cut.
