Wish round 2 would release some obscure stuff
oldcarfan replied to jeffp60's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Since they are redoing the 60 and 63 Ford trucks, maybe they can tool up a nice straight six engine to go with the Falcon Ranchero? It could then also be offered in the second issues of the too newly retooled trucks as well. Also, here's hoping they'll release the go-kart with the Bonneville body shell, too. -
Anyone Make Japanese Kei Truck Kits?

Thanks for the heads up, I just placed an order! I lived in Austin for years and didn't know they were there. -
Anyone Make Japanese Kei Truck Kits?
oldcarfan replied to oldcarfan's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
That looks really cool! What kit is that? -
Living in the northern part of the Texas Hill Country, we see a lot of agriculture related stuff and I've noticed over the last few years that some local ranchers are buying these used Japanese Kei trucks for use. I'd like to see some in kit form. I know there is a kit of the Subaru Sambar in 1/24th, but are there any for these other vehicles? I'm thinking Daihatsu Hijet, Sambar of course, Suzuki Carry, and Honda Acty. There used to be a three wheel Mazda truck too, but I think that was 1/32 and I prefer 1/24th and 1/25th scale. eBay hasn't turned up anything, but I thought I remembered seeing other kits.

Any Chance Of The Monogram Capri II Coming Back?
oldcarfan replied to oldcarfan's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Maybe whoever owns the molds could reissue it and I wouldn't say no if they tooled up a set of Euro market bumpers to go with it. Much sleeker looking in my opinion. -
I prefer plastic kits, but I look at die-cast to fill in spots that I can't get otherwise. I also look at the scale accuracy and proportions as well. I only buy in the 1/25th-1/24th range and a lot die-cast makers especially the cheaper price point ones seem to be of the "Meh, close enough," outlook.

Over the last few years I've been trying to collect all Monogram's Exotic Car line, but the Capri II has eluded me at a decent price. Does anyone know if Atlantic or someone else has the molds for this kit as well as the other kits in this line? I have a thread on the history of these kits and hope to start building the kits I've collected by the end of the year. I'd sure like to have this kit too! It was released in a couple variations, but this is the one I had as a kid.

Do you also have 1:1 project cars?
oldcarfan replied to ctruss53's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
No, just a base 2WD shortbed. No power anything, 4 speed manual, the basic truck you might have seen everywhere 40 years ago.Probably nothing special to anyone but me. -
Because I'm a glutton for punishment and also because it's the only thing for sale in my area, I'm thinking about try to decant some Rustoleum and spray it through an airbrush. Add to this I came across a stash of 30 cans of all different colors. The question I guess, is does anyone know what the chemistry is on Rustoleum paint is? I know it takes forever to harden out, so my guess is it's old school enamel, but does anyone know for sure? Can I use maybe lacquer thinner or something?

I just got my dad's old truck. It's rust free but the paint's showing through due to desert sun. It hadn't been started or moved since 2004 or so. I hope to get it running by the Fall. -
AMT 1966 Ford Mustang GT Fastback 2+2 Kit
oldcarfan replied to Jim B's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I wonder if the AMT 1967 Mustang chassis would work under this kit? It is pretty well detailed. -
I'd love to have a couple of the updated G-Wagens. I also came across one of the cheap R/C 1/24th ones and the Jurassic Park 6 wheeler die-cast in the same box.

Decal printing fail
oldcarfan replied to Sidney Schwartz's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I tried ink jet printing on laser paper and it looked like this. So that's my guess. -
build quality of the AMT Dodge D50?
oldcarfan replied to MrMiles's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I haven't built one for a few years, but it was decent for an 80s MPC kit. -
I tried masking trim with BMF to spray it black then couldn't get all the BMF off. Can anyone show me the trick to getting it off?

While unpacking a box of models I forgot about, I came across two of the Italeri Gelandewagens and one of the Revell G-Wagen Fire Brigade. I haven't opened them yet, but does anyone know if these are the same kit in different boxes?

Thanks To AMT For The New Technology Old Kits
oldcarfan replied to oldcarfan's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
As far as the Johan issue, it would be nice if Mr. Spaulding could make a deal with R2 to redo the Johan molds that still exist and perhaps restore any missing parts as part of a trade. Maybe it could benefit both parties. -
The Jeep is a nice kit. I built several of them a few years ago and they seemed to be one of MPC's better molds. I'll be looking forward to the Bronco and the C3500.

It seems to me that Rustoleum's quality control is shoddy at best. I bought several cans of a particular color for a large project and one can was fine and three were really bad. About the only difference I could see was the lot number was different on the good can. Krylon is almost impossible in my area but it is always a better product when you can find it.

I've been into models since I was a little kid thanks to my dad and uncle who built. I've gotten into and out of building over the years depending on what's going on in my life. It's a way of expressing creativity. I'm currently in the process of building a new modeling area and looking to start up again.

I'll be traveling to the Dallas/Fort Worth area and plan to stop by Wild Bill's Hobbytown if they're still there. Someone said that some of the old stock ended up at a different Hobbytown. Does anyone know which that might be. Late this month, I'll be in Corpus Christi and wondered if there are any hobby shops there. Thanks, for any help!

I'm so pleased that AMT is using scanning and other methods to recreate lost tooling. I've got five of their Nova wagon and am looking forward to the 1960 and 1963 F-100s. I've been wondering what other lost tools they might be able to recreate? Any ideas? Between AMT and MPC they have a lot of history that would be nice to see back on the shelves. I'd like to see a 71 Pinto and Vega done in Craftsman style. On a slightly different tack, could the same techniques be used to back date tools? I'd love to see a base model hood to turn MPCs 70s Camaro and Firebirds into the base model editions. Maybe a straight six ending to go with it. For that matter, I wonder how 'legal' it would be for someone to use this new technology to recreate the Johan tools. Some of their stuff had really accurate bodies.
