I tried my hand at a conversion for a very special reason. The original Scooby Doo is still the best in my opinion so I had to do this one. This is a CVS 1/24th diecast that I stripped and rebuilt from a pickup to a flatbed. The crate is model plywood and the flatbed is basswood with styrene strips in between. The truck and its mysterious cargo are now ready for a creepy adventure. What a night for a knight! I plan to test fit the stepside bed from this truck with a Revell Honcho for a cool different version.

I posted earlier that a baby turned up in our backyard and my wife wanted to protect it. We went to the Humane Society and borrowed a live trap. The kitty went in within an hour. We think it's a he and he's a little skittish but friendly. We brought him in and gave him some food and water. Fia our main cat is not interested in new friendships, but maybe she'll warm up. I guess this one will be an emergency backup cat. In the meantime our Corgi has taken to grooming and sleeping with the new guy. My wife wants to call him Charlie.

What did you see on the road today?
oldcarfan replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Good job! Around Austin you usually see them either spotless or totally clapped out! -
A drop in cat, does that count? Our dogs have been barking like crazy the last couple nights and just found out what it was. We have an old storm cellar in the back yard and this little goober is in there. It won't let us get close so we'll try to trap it and bring it in. We've been giving it food and water. There's a cat colony across the street so maybe it got kicked out? If we can catch it we already have two people who'll take it.

Storm chaser vehicles
oldcarfan replied to Beans's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
We had some unsettled weather this last month, but this was the first active participant I saw. For those budget minded tornado chasers, here we see the tough Dodge Dart! This was actually cool, it has antennas and anemometers, and the roof rack has hail mesh that hangs over the front and rear windows. Apparently the people inside are Paramedics too! -
1/25 AMT 1959 Buick "Boondock Bomber"
oldcarfan replied to Drago's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I read a long time ago, so this could be false, but I read that the model companies had to pay taxes on the molds for some reason. Maybe the potential profit that they held? Supposedly that encouraged them to scrap the old molds. -

Bad pic but I caught a 4Runner in it's native habitat, the toll road. This one had the roof rack and the water cans, ready to brave the suburban wastelands! -
Modeling-wise I accomplished nothing, however I did get to spend a week with my toddler granddaughter. You never realize how tired you can be until a toddler is there to remind you. This upcoming week I'll be in the shop trying to remember what I was working on. I shot some enamel paint last Monday and with the 100 degree temps maybe it'll be ready to work with.

Is There A Baja Bug Kit with a Roof?
oldcarfan replied to oldcarfan's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
You know, it's funny, I remembered that as soon as I typed it and meant to go in and edit and then got distracted by the next shiny object and forgot. Thanks! -
Is that the original MPC kit? I wonder if that tooling is still in Round 2's warehouse somewhere?

I got something I never expected to find. It's a Mercedes Benz Sprinter in 1/24th scale! I've been wanting a newer body style van for a while as a tow vehicle like an MB or a Ford Transit. I'd given up on a company tooling up a kit and started searching for a 3D version. To my surprise I found this one listed on Walmart.com of all places for $20. It's produced in the Ukraine by Tigres and is an accurate 1/24th scale with good bodylines. The cockpit is simplified so I'll need to do some bashing to fix that, but the front doors and the rear access doors open like a diecast so I can add a good interior to it. The last picture is what I hope to turn it into.

I got a can of that light blue and another can of the Cobalt green last weekend, too. The green looks like the color Vailant used on their Porsches back in the day.

In central Texas gas prices are running around $2.50 a gallon and we aren't complaining. Sometimes it goes up to $2.75 but it's been pretty stable. Here's hoping it stays the same. On the other hand, living in a small Hill Country town, getting any serious shopping done that's not online involves two hours of driving to Austin or Ft Worth. -
I just received a 1/24th Mercedes Benz Sprinter to convert to a racer's tow vehicle. The proportions look dead on to me and it's nicely detailed for something sold as a toy. To me it's on par with a lot of promo models. The package says it is made of ABS and that brings in my question. Will regular hobby paints work on this? I normally use Duplicolor Sandable Primer or Tamiya Primer to start.

If they do a stock version or if this one can be converted, I'm for a couple! -
BELKITS 1/24 scale Toyota Yaris Rally 1 hybrid
oldcarfan replied to Luc Janssens's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Not exactly a rally car, but I'd love to see a new Porsche Dakar kit from Tamiya or Bel Kit either one! -
I stopped at HobbyTown again not really planning to get anything, but they'd just gotten this Lexus in and the price was too good to turn down. I'm going back and forth between a stock build and a lowered VIP style tuner. Also picked up the Hot Wheels Dajiban. Sure wish someone did a 1994 SWB conversion for AMT venerable Dodge Van kit. And finally, Fia my spokes-model had to pose for a picture.

Maybe the Mustang for me, I have a soft spot for AMT's original version. I would love to see a bunch of new tools, but for these days, I'm happy to see these companies doing whatever keeps the doors open. As for other releases, I wonder it the camper from the 62 Ford truck will fit on any of their other truck kits. Maybe the Dodge LWB that came out recently? And I wonder if the streamliner body tool for the go-kart is on an unused part of the mold? I'd buy more of that!
