  1. Obviously I know little about the process, but would it be possible to scan a warped promo, correct it digitally and print it out?
  2. I'm not a big fan of a lot of Ferraris, but I've loved the Daytona since reading my dad's old Car & Driver with the Cannonball winner in it, and then later seeing Gumball on cable. What's behind you isn't important!
  3. Between Revell/Monogram and AMT it's the kits not the maker. Their releases over the decades vary wildly in quality. Hoewever for sentimental reasons, I prefer MPC's 70s and 80s annual kits and Monogram's 80s new issues. I pretty much have all the kits of either brand I'll ever need, so now if I buy new kits it tends to be a Japanese kit or some oddity that catches my eye.
  4. I've been wondering the same thing. I'm in the process of building a control box to slow down a single speed Dremel, but if there's anything better?
  5. I'd buy the 65 Fairlane for sure and the 69 Pontiac for the canoe alone!
  6. Made a trip to Fort Worth today so of course I had to stop at a Wild Bill's Hobbytown. They always have some surprising old kits. I went for some Tamiya clear, but they were out so I couldn't leave without buying something that would be rude. Here's the three things I couldn't pass up. A Tamiya Honda Fit Cabriolet, a Nissan coupe, and a Ford Courier. The truck isn't rare, and is the stepside, but I really only need the cab and frame. I have one of the Fit already but it was missing some parts so it never got built.
  7. Saw a Ford truck in my favorite color today at WalMart. It was unmarked but must have been a fleet truck. I've always wanted a truck like this!
  8. This is a simple tip, but some might find it helpful. Recently I lost all three of my good X-Acto knives. Knowing they would show up eventually I grabbed a couple of cheap Hobby Lobby knives. Sure enough the good knives showed up within a week. That was long enough to realize I don't like these cheap knives. Every time I went to use one the blade fell out. The collet backs off and let the blade slip out no matter how much I tightened it. In a moment of clarity I decided to try some plumber's Teflon tape. A couple twists around the threads and it seems to hold. While I had them apart, I decided to make them easier to see on the work bench. Some white primer and some left over Tamiya fluorescent yellow and they're done.
  9. I'll be tagging along on my wife's business trip so this week has been mostly getting the house ready for the sitter. I've had some time in the afternoons, but my attention span seems to be on vacation so this is more a what did I accomplish this week thing. On Monday I made a little progress on the Mercedes Rally Van but then I saw a rare Ford Courier U-Haul truck online and got sidetracked. I poked through the stash and couldn't find my Courier but I found another Datsun 620. I cut up a plastic sign for the box and got it assembled and primed in just a few hours. Here's the result so far. Oh and I spent some time making a decal sheet on Word for it yesterday. I put them on today and I'll clear coat it when I get back. Here's hoping I come back from the trip with a clearer head and maybe a couple side trips to hobby shops.
  10. You're right about that! At the time I was prejudiced against Lindberg because I had been given a bunch of their old kits to play around with. My uncle had bought them back in the day and then lost interest when he discovered girls. Anyway, some of those kits were almost at Palmer levels of crummy to a beginner with few skills.
  11. That's too bad, I had an Eclipse that was good, but maybe it was the Revell kit. I wonder what AMT's thought process was for these kits. You'd think it wouldn't much harder to get the proportions and details right. At the time I was building Revell's Civics, Acura's and Ford Focuses so I never paid much attention to the AMT offerings.
  12. Revell seems to have the molds for this kit, except maybe the Odyssey. Here's hoping find that part too and drag it out for a reissue.
  13. I came across a Facebook page last year where people collect the old MGP cars. One of them was listed for $800. I'd like to have one, but I still have my project 86 Toyota pickup to finish.
  14. It's been a long time, but didn't the Tempest and the Nova kits share a chassis? Maybe it was the wagon, I can't remember. I was just thinking maybe they could clone the parts and use the chassis off the new tool Nova.
  15. I'm bored so this post is long, forgive me. My first wish is that Round 2 would go back to the softer gray plastic they used in the 90s. Don't know why but I liked working with that. There are so many kits I'd like to see backdated to the original issue, but that's for another thread. Sticking to straight rereleases, I have many on my list. There's a ton of material to work with if the tooling is still around. I prefer the MPC to the AMT kits, but the Monza and SkyHawk and the third generation Camaro and Firebird would be nice. The variations of the MPC 70s-80s kits would be cool either as 2n1 or separate issues. All those IMSA body kits and the Ford van with the 4wd option would be nice to see again. MPC's 1971 Roadrunner Superbird, and Dodge Charger 500 would be nice (I was told once that the tooling is still there for both). With the release of the Vega Pro Stock I'd love to know if the Pinto Pro Stock tool is still on the shelf. The 90s brought some nice contemporary kits. Just in trucks alone, Round 2 could probably get two years worth of new releases out of them. The F-150 long bed and step side, the Explorer, the Tahoe, the Dodge trucks in straight and dually bed, the Chevy S-10 and Blazer promo/kit, all those haven't been seen in a while. Kudos to them for redoing the Chevy shortbed and dually! The Ranger in both the Splash and straight bed would also be great. I'd love to see them add some life guard stuff and new decals for an LA Baywatch Splash! On the LA subject, the DOH Sheriff Coltrane's car could probably be turned into a CHIPs patrol car or an LAPD car and if it's still around, the Cooter tow truck could fill in as a CHIPs tow truck. Both might be fairly easy with just with new decals. The A-Team van would be nice, too. The 90s also brought us the Chevy Beretta and Cavalier, and Ford Probe and Taurus SHO, too. Finally, not sure if they owned the tooling, but there was the Dodge Stealth, and AMT later did a line of tuner cars first as FnF then later with generic decals. They had a 1995 Eclipse, Nissan 350Z, and a 1995 Toyota Supra and I think maybe another? They should be about ready to see the hobby shelves again.
  16. Big Lots closed and Ollie's just moved into their spot. It's the first in this area. I went by for the grand opening but no kits of any kind. I'll keep checking.
  17. Took a drive yesterday morning and passed a VW Caddy pickup. Looked used but rust free. Sitting at a stoplight two Ford Flexes went past now to tail. They looked like they'd just been to the detailer, all shiny and new. Not sure if they've reached collectible stage, but there was a car club meet in town, so I'm guessing they were headed that way. The Flex was one of my secret favorites back in the day.
  18. Looks like a nice project and some nice work!
  19. If it's been asked before, I couldn't find it, but I have an 15 year old build that was painted white and the decals and the carrier film yellowed. I have another painted the same color from about the same time that was clear coated with Model Master or Tamiya clear lacquer, I'm not sure which, and the decals don't show any yellowing. So I guess the question is, does clear coat prevent the decals from yellowing or was this a coincidence?
